#19 of A trainer's story

** The Legend of Mega Evolution**

"Accept this power!" the spirit inside Lucario urged, "Merge with me. From now on, you and I will become one - Mega Lucario."

...

Streams of light energy started to gather and swirl around Lucario, forming a floating white sphere which encased the pokemon's body. The sphere kept getting bigger and only stopped growing when it reached about two meters long in diameter. In that brief moment when the sphere stood still, time seemed to be frozen.

Then it happened...The sphere bursted open, radiating intense light as well as burning gushes of winds (Jake covered his eyes, in fear of going blind), and from the inside, came a figure which initially looked pretty much like Lucario, but when the light had finally died down, Jake was speechless as he found himself staring at a new pokemon.

"Lucario? Is that really you?"

"No..." the pokemon replied, his voice was deep and ancient, as if he was reading from a very, very old book, "I'm Mega Lucario."

As soon as he finished the statement, Lucario's head slightly jerked backwards, as if he was pulled from behind by an invisible hand. He winced and pressed his paw against his head, muttering, "Why...did I say that? My voice...what happened to my voice?" he started to panick.

Geez, get a grip! scowled a voice in Lucario's head, which sounded hasty and irritated, Mighty Arceus! Why did you even choose a dimwit like him to weird my power?

Lucario couldn't understand why, but even though the voice was literally insulting him, it actually helped calming him down. Now I started to hear voice in my head. Have I really gone mad? the aura pokemon mentally asked himself.

Forget it... sighed the voice, _You're neither mad or dreaming. I'm talking to you via your mind, and I'm a spirit, NOT some random hallucinating voice. My name is the same as your right now, Mega Lucario. _

Mega Lucario?

Yes, _ the spirit - now Mega Lucario, comfirmed, _And because you have accepted my power, we will remain one from now on. Tecnically, I'm not supposed talk to you after we merged, but since you sounded like a headless chicken, I decided to show up and give you a few instructions.

Headless chicken? Really? Don't you have anything better? Lucario asked quizzically, almost sarcastically.

Cut the jokes! Mega Lucario snapped, Listen carefully! Your body and voice has changed, but it's all for the better. This is the original form of all Lucario, and also the true final stage of our evolution. Not only are you significantly stronger and faster, but you can also control, as well as sense aura a lot easier. You are no longer an aura user, but an aura master. Come on, try it, and you'll see.

Lucario held up his paw, and he realized the spirit hadn't been laying at all. Every single one of his vein, or even tissue, was brimming with energy. He scanned the surrounding, his blazing crimson eyes made the remaining of team Galatic's pokemon flinch. Lucario could sense their fear, no, he could see it! His ability to read aura had indeed improved to the uppermost. Normally, Lucario could only read one to two auras at once, a third one or more would result in terrible headache; but now, he could easily read the aura of every living being presented in the room, even the slightest disturbance couldn't escape his eyes.

"Unbelievable!" Lucario murmured, and he heard the spirit chuckle, Well, just like how lads put it these day: duh! And it will only get better. Now, try moving and attacking.

Lucario nodded. He charged at the nearest of them Galactic's pokemon, which was a Crosgunk, with his normal speed, until he realized it had been doubled. Lucario sent the enemy flying backwards with a sucker punch, simply because he hadn't even had enough time to select any of his moves.

"What is this?" Lucario said in awe, staring at his fist, "I've never been able to move so fast, and my strength...I must be at least twice stronger than before!"

Now try it again, this time use a special attack the spirit commanded, his voice brimming with excitement, in a way an old men would be if he was thrilled, How about some good old aura sphere?

With pleasure! Lucario smirked as he raised his arm, and he could feel the aura channeling into his paw, responding to his will in a perfect harmony. The energy sphere was quickly formed, a little smaller than normal but darker in color, with small spiral energy streams that formed a visible core in the center (which made it looked totally cooler and more intimidating); and, instead of having to use both his paws like he had always done, Lucario only need one paw now. Lucario marvelled the aura sphere as if it was the biggest diamond in the world, then scanned the surrounding as he searched for a target. And done! The unlucky winner was Venus' Weavile, who was battling Latios.

"Dodge, Eon boy!" Lucario warned and launched the energy sphere. Latios barely had enough time, but he managed to move out of the way.

As soon as it hit Weavile, the aura sphere exploded like a grenade. The impact knocked Weavile backwards and slammed him to the wall. As a bonus, it also added a few bruises and burn marks all over his body.

"My cute little Weavile, no!" Venus let loose a guttural scream. She glared at Lucario, but flinched and stepped backwards as she met his cold, predatory eyes, as if he was telling her: See what happened to that Weavile? Your ass will suffer the same fate if you don't get lost, right now!

Venus frowned as she painfully realized the current situation. Most of her Galactic foot soldiers had been defeated, her Weavile had been knocked out cold, and now she had to deal with two trainers, three fresh and a newly evolved pokemon which Venus knew she didn't stand a chance against.

Gritting her teeth, the female commander pulled out a pokeball from her belt and retrieved the unconscious Weavile.

"Losing to a bunch of kids..." Venus frowned, rolling her eyes at Jake, Jaden and their pokemon with absolute hatred, "I shouldn't have underestimated you. But don't get too cocky, because next time we meet, your defeat will be ten times more painful than mine today. This is your last warning: From now on, don't stick your noses into team Galactic's business."

"Tempting," Jaden snorted, "But I think I'll just arrest you instead.". Venus ignored him and pulled out from her pocket, a small object which resembled a mini grenade.

"Retreat!" Venus ordered, then pressed the button in the middle of the object and threw it onto the floor. Before neither Jake nor Jaden could react, the mini grenade exploded, but instead of fire and heat, it produced a blinding flash of light and an extremely high-pitched sound.

"A Flashbang!" Jaden yelled and covered his face. The light only lasted for a few seconds, but when Jaden opened his eyes again, Venus and the rest of Galactic team were nowhere to be found, "Damn it, she got away!" he said, gritting his teeth, before turning to Jake, "You stay here and collect the pokemon. I'll go after her."

"Don't be reckless!" Jake protested, "We're in their building, remember? There maybe are dangerous stuffs, hidden traps and secret emergency exists. Our only hope is Luxray, but he's exhausted, he can't use his vision anymore. Let's just get outta here as soon as possible."

Jaden considered Jake's idea for a second and nodded warily, "Jeez, guess we have no other choice. Alright, leave the the left shelf to me, you get the..."

Jake tilted his head quizzically when he noticed Jaden was staring at something behind him. The trainer turned around, and he had almost jumped.

Mega Lucario was strolling towards him. The pokemon's new from, his red eyes which almost looked like crystalized blood; his deep, ancient voice were extremely intimidating to Jake. He wanted to run away, his toes felt itchy, as if they were alerting him.

"Pull yourself together!" Jake spat himself, "I'm not a coward! No matter how different he looks, Lucario is my mate, and he will never hurt me."

Inhaling deeply, Jake extended his hand and looked directly into his mate's eyes, "Lucario, I'm not sure whether you know who I am now, but if you're still somewhere in there, please give me a sign."

The aura pokemon didn't hesitate. He took Jake's hand, and, caught the trainer by surprise as he suddenly pulled Jake closer until their lips met. Jake was too stunned to react, and Lucario's evolved muscles were more than a match for his. However, it didn't take long for Jake to give in as he and Lucario shared one of their deepest and most passionate kisses ever.

Lucario felt a comforting warm glow in his chest, and he briefly wondered if his inner spirit was blushing. Perhaps, because he too was having bright red cheeks. Somehow, it totally felt like their first kiss, when Lucario had been overwhelmed by happiness that he had just wanted to melt into Jake's embrace and stay there forever.

Well done, lad! Your bond with him had grown ever stronger. The more your hearts connected to each other's, the easier it will be for you to transform. the spirit mused, That's all I have to inform you. There's a chance we will never get to talk to each other again, but don't forget, I'll always watch you from within your very heart and soul. And...as much as I couldn't figure out, there must be reasons why Arceus had chosen you, so from now on, I'll leave everything to you.

_Thanks! _

No problem...Oh, one last thing: You can tap into my power at any time you want, but since it's too powerful, the transformation will only last for a limited amount of time, and when it's undone, you'll feel extremely exhausted.

Oh great, now you're telling me that? Lucario scolded, when he felt the energy was suddenly drained from his body, as if it was sucked out by a giant vaccum. He fell unconscious and collasped into Jake's arms.

...

Jake watched as Lucario slowly reversed to his normal from, the addition features on his body fading as if they had been made of mist.

"Uhm..." Jaden cleared his throat. Jake turned around and found everyone else in the room. Human and pokemon alike, staring at him and Lucario as if they had just landed from another planet. 'Did you just...kiss him?" Jaden asked.

"Shit! They saw it!" Jake cursed mentally. He tried to think of an excuse, any kind of lie to cover the truth that he and Lucario were mates, but Jaden's piercing eyes was more than a discouragement for him. He nodded timidly, dropping his head in shame.

Much to Jake surprise, Jaden's only reaction was a satisfying smile. He put a hand on Jake's shoulder, "We'll talk about this later. Now let's get the pokemon and go help Ryan."

Jake had no other choice. With the help of Latios, Dragonite and Starly, they quickly collected all the pokeballs and stuffed them into two backpacks. Since they weren't sure about using the stairs, Jaden decided to get out the way they got in: From the rooftop.

They saw Ryan, surrounded by another dozen of Galactic foot soilders, struggling to fight his way out. Charizard and Monferno were shooting columns of fire all over the places, some take down one or two enemy pokemon, but most of them missed.

Jake and Jaden looked at each other, then shared a silent, determinated nod. They charged right into the chaotic battle. Dragonite let loose a thunderous roar, forcing both Ryan and team Galactic to look at his direction.

"Hey Ryan! Is it too late to join the party?" Jake shouted. Ryan brought his head up, and his face broke into a smirk, "Not at all! I could use a little help here!"

They joined the fight. With Latios and Dragonite, the tide was quickly turned, but they failed to capture any member of team Galactic. Those guys sure could run away pretty fast.

...

"Did you get the pokemon?" Ryan asked, panting as he wiped the swear dripping on his forehead. Jake grinned and showed him the backpacks that contained the missing pokemon, "Here you go. Save and sound!"

"Cool. Now can we please go back to the Pokemon Center? I'm so freaking beat! Gardenia can wait until tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure she will appreciate it if we don't disturb her sleep." Ryan groaned as he tried to stifle a yawn, but failed miserably. Jake couldn't help but chuckled, "Sure buddy."

During their flight back to the Pokemon Center, Jake tried to get closer to Jaden and whispered to the latter, "Can you stay at the Center tonight? There're a few things I need to ask you?"

Jaden considered it for a while, before responding with a quiet nod. He remained silent for the rest of the flight.

(Eterna Pokemon Center - 1 a.m)

"Finally! Cozy bed and comfy pillows, here I come!" Ryan exclaimed as he climbed off Charizard, "See ya tomorrow!" he said and pat the fire pokemon's back, "And you get to sleep with me tonight. Excited?"

It was hard to tell, but Jake thought Charizard was blushing. He smiled, then turned to Jaden, "So, can we talk now?"

"Sure." Jaden shrugged.

...

They were in Jake's room in no time.

Jake decided to sit on the bed while Jaden make himself comfortable on the couch. He let Lucario rest on his lap, curling up and snoozing peacefully like a little puppy.

"What do you want to ask me?"

"A lot. Tell me what exactly is this?" Jake asked, showing Jaden's the Mega stone, "And how does it work? When Lucario changed during the battle with team Galactic, he was holding one of the gems, and so was I. What's the meaning of that?"

"Since you've already witnessed a Mega Evolution, there's no point in keeping that secret now. But first, I want to tell you a story, which is the actually reason why I came to Sinnoh."

"I'm listening."

"You see, Sinnoh is famous for many reasons, and one of them is its variety of creation myths. I've read many of them, but this is the one I found most appealing - the legend of Arceus."

"Arceus?"

"It goes like this: In the beginning, there was nothing but Chaos. A formless, infinite void, Chaos represents the initial state of everything.

And from Chaos, Arceus - the Alpha One, emerged. The born of Arceus also marked the the born of Creation - Xerneas and Destruction - Yveltal, as they were the two aspects of Arceus itself: Destroyer of Chaos and Bringer of Order.

Arceus then created Dialga - whose heartbeat is the flow of Time, Palkia - whose breath condenses into Space and Giratina - whose temper manifests into Antimatter. And so, the universe comes into existance.

But then Arceus realized something had been missing. What would this world become without life? So, Arceus devided its own essence into eighteen parts, in the form of plates with different color, each one represents an attribute, or 'type', and use those plates to create beings that nowadays we call pokemon."

"That's a nice story, but what does it have to do with the gems and the transformation?" Jake asked, raising his eyebrown.

"Don't rush, here comes the good part. As the first generation of pokemon created by Arceus itself, those beings were incredibly powerful and aggressive. In short, they were superior than the current pokemon in every way. We referred them as 'Mega Ones'.

The Mega Ones had been destinied to rule the Earth at first, but they were soon filled with hubris and an insatiable lust for power. As the result, they failed Arceus' teachings and started slaughtering each other to gain domination for their own race. This angered Arceus greatly. It ordered Yveltal to anihilate the Mega Ones, then gave Xerneas a task to create a new generation, based on the Mega Ones' appearances and attributes, but less powerful. The second generation is the pokemon that we're familiar with today.

However, since the Mega Ones were born directly from Arceus' essence, their spirits are eternal, and continue to exist in the form of gemstones known as Mega Stones: Small, but virtually indestructible, and extremely rare..."

Jaden paused to regain his breath, then started again, "Each pokemon can only use one specific Mega stone by holding it before a battle. However, the transformation also requires the assistance of a key stone, which is held by a human partner."

"Key stone? You meant this?" Jake asked, pointing at the the tiny gem attached to his glove. Jaden nodded, "Yup, the key stone. Although I personally think the true key to unlock Mega evolution's power is the connection between a pokemon and its human partner."

"A connection, huh? Then why did you give these stones to me and Ryan? You could have just kept them for yourself. With their power, you'll pretty much become invincible in battles."

Jaden chuckled, "To be honest, I'm don't know. When we first met in Eterna Forest, my instinct told me that you and Lucario shared a connection; much like Ryan and Charizard. Also, after witnessing what happened tonight, I'm absolutely sure that my decision was right. Now, please forgive my impudence, but may I ask you this: You and Lucario are in love with each other, aren't you?"

Jake blushed fiercely. He had been trying to avoid this object for the whole conversation, but didn't expect Jaden to bring it up this soon, "Yes, we are. Does that surprise you?"

"Not really...Well, it did look a little awkward at first, watching you guys kissing and hugging each other, but then I think it's rather cute."

"Cute? Were you knocked on the head or something? Don't you find it weird about two guys falling in love with each other, not to mention Lucario and I aren't even the same races." Jake asked bluntly.

"No, I don't." Jaden shrugged, "What is weird about loving someone? Even if the world is fulled of brickheads that can't learn to accept, I'll always follow my heart. Didn't you feel the same way the moment you realized that special feeling for Lucario?"

"You sounded as if you know how I felt?"

"As a matter of fact, I do...Jake, if you trust me enough, there's a secret of mine that I want you to know."

Jake nodded.

"You're not the only one who fell in love with a male pokemon. I was also mated with Latios."

...
