#6 of Ember Tails

Whenever you do something online, especially on Facebook, it can often affect how your friends (and enemies) at school act, as Zane and Kira find out. Aside from that, things keep progressing forward...

Here's the second half of today's update! Yeah, chapter two is overall going to be quite long - I probably should've titled it "Arc 2" or something. Oh well. ^.^''

Contains: teen pregnancy, middle-school bullying, mild violence1,920 wordsAll comments welcome!

The takover had happened late enough the previous night that Zane wasn't sure if the looks he got on Wednesday were the kinds he had been getting previously or if they were colored with knowledge of the counterattack. He knew the students would all be on Facebook that afternoon, though, so Thursday would be the test of their actions. As he went to get on the bus home Wednesday afternoon, though, he heard shouting from down the path and was able to make out Bethee screaming at Kwame; he had to smile smugly at that as he got on his bus.

Thursday morning he and Keith walked in to their science classroom with an oddly tense air permeating the lab. While they were doing their experiment, Melanie edged up to them.

"Hey..." she whispered, "...was it true that there was an entire Facebook group dedicated to making fun of Kira?"

"Yeah," Keith replied in a similar low tone, aware that other students were watching them.

"And you hacked it?"

"Well, not really; one of my brother's friends hacked Kwame's Facebook account, then used Kwame's admin powers in the group to get me and Keith in power."

"Excellent either way," the Fennekin whispered matter-of-factly. "And it's done a great job of exposing Bethee and Kwame for the sluts they are, as everyone they've already slept with is freaking out about the AIDS status your brother's friend put up."

"AIDS???" Zane hissed, aghast.

"Yeah, his status currently says "Has AIDS; sorry Bethee." And he can't change it at all as he can't access his account anymore. It's rich."

"Not the word I would use..." the Electrike said, shaking his head and going back to focusing on his experiment.

"Anyway, might I see this group?"

"I mean, we've essentially cleared it of all the bad stuff by now, there's not much to see anymore."

"Ah. Well, maybe you could keep it and use it to post updates on the baby's progress?"

"What's your problem??" Kira yelled as she picked herself up off the wood gym floor, nursing two of her tails as she did so. They had been stomped on while she had been running, as one is supposed to run in gym class, causing her to go slamming face-first into the floor. The Meditite that had caused the problem, though, had already run ahead and only flipped a middle finger in response.

A few minutes later, Bethee's group was about to lap Kira and Melanie again. They steered clear of the younger fire fox but buffeted the golden Vulpix as they ran past, unceremoniously shoving her as they tried to pass. Legs got tangled, though, Kira accidentally taking the Meditite down with her.

"Bitch!"

"Hey, who's been harassing who for the past week, here and online??"

"Oh, I thought a slut like you would like dirty talk and getting a good pushin'."

"I think the sheer amount of guys who've texted you about your 'status' in the past day is evidence of who's the real slut here, Bethee," Melanie said, helping Kira back up to her feet.

That got the Meditite mad. She got into the foxes' personal space and yelled "Oh well sorry I can't keep a boyfriend, not everyone is as "perfect" as dear old Christopher is! At least I've never been stupid enough to get knocked up while having my fun! Or, maybe, you're such a great couple that you're actually proud of that parasite growing in you now, is that it?"

"You think I was hoping to get pregnant??" Kira shouted back, all the yelling getting the attention of the other girls and the gym teacher as the class converged on the altercation. "I'm too young to be a mom! And the administration is forcing me to take all my classes next semester from home so I don't "send the wrong message" as I get full term! I didn't want any of this!"

"Well we can fix that!" Bethee shouted, and before anyone could figure out what she meant she punched Kira in the gut, making the Vulpix double over and stagger back a few steps, though the look on her face was more in shock than in pain.

"Bethanee Lydia Vernon!" the teacher yelled, aghast at what she had just seen and quickly moving in to stand between the groups of girls that looked ready to fight. She grabbed the Meditite by the ear to keep her at bay. "Detention! And probably a suspension once we sit you down with the principal! How dare you? Melanie, take Kira to the Nurse's or the Counselor's or something and call her parents. I think it takes way more trauma than that to induce anything bad, but it's certainly scary, and better to play it safe."

"Yes ma'am!" the Fennekin said, leading the still-stunned Vulpix away.

"And you , little lady," the gym teacher said, giving a little yank to Bethee's ear, causing a new string of 'ows' and profanities, "you're coming with me to the principal's office right this minute! The rest of you girls, finish your running and then you have free time, but please stay in the gym until it's time to go to last period. And if I hear of any other fights, I'll freely hand out more detentions, you hear?"

The boys' gym class was just heading inside from their football game when a door to the middle school opened and Mr. Sune led his daughter out. Several of the guys noticed, and soon enough Zane was running over to the pair.

"Hey! What's wrong? What happened??" he yelled as he approached, even as Coach Waldrum tried calling him back to the gym group.

"Kira was attacked in her gym class," the Espeon said, doing a very good (but not perfect) job of suppressing a growl. "She should be okay, as should the kit, it sounds like it was more offensive and scary than damaging - but we're going to the doctor now to be safe and find out what we need to do. Go back to your class, Zane, everything should be fine. I think."

"Oh... okay..." He still grumbled a bit, not quite wanting to leave Kira's side. "Does Keith know?"

"Oh, um, no I guess not," Mr. Sune answered. "When are you going to see him next?"

"I think I might be able to catch him before I catch my bus."

"Ah, okay. Well, let him know if you can, and tell him to get on his bus, he'd be expecting me to show up. I'll try texting him in the next hour if I get the chance, but would be best if you tell him as well."

"Okay." He could tell there wasn't much conversation left to have, so he scooted in to give Kira a quick huge and little kiss on the side of her muzzle before jogging back to Coach Waldrum, the Mightyena holding open the door after the rest of the boys had already gone inside.

"I still can't believe she had the gall to punch a pregnant girl in the gut!" Keith ranted at Zane, unable to focus on their science homework - the Electrike had opted to ride with Keith back to the Sune's house instead of going home on his regular bus.

"I know, I know, just - here's let's try to stay distracted away from that with friction." Even he was having trouble focusing on the problem set, though.

They didn't remain frustrated for too long, though; about half an hour later, they heard a car door close. A minute later the front door opened, Kira and her father walking in.

"Kira! Is everything okay?"

"Oh, Zane! Hi..." Seeing her boyfriend made Kira smile, which made Keith and Zane relax a bit. "Yeah... At least we think so. She didn't hit hard enough to even bruise me, so it shouldn't have been enough to hurt the kit. Besides, since I'm at eleven weeks already, it's far enough along that it's not so sensitive and chancy, we're past the critical period of development..."

"And they could just tell that with a simple examination?" Keith asked.

"Well, no," she said, sliding off her backpack as she joined the guys at the table, "that's just what happens after ten weeks. But I did get an ultrasound as well."

"Weren't you scheduled for your first one at twelve weeks?"

"Yeah, and we'll still do that next week to make sure there aren't any lingering problems from me getting punched, but they let me do an early one today to see if something that might have gone wrong was viewable today. But everything looked good today; it was... really cool seeing the heartbeat and everything..." She trailed off, smiling meekly, obviously having been touched by the experience.

"Did they tell you if it was a boy or a girl?"

"No; I don't want to know that, remember Keith? Besides, they said they don't reach 90% confidence in sexing the baby until week twelve or so anyway."

"Did you get a picture of the ultrasound to bring back?" Zane asked.

"No, while it was cool seeing it all on the sonogram, I don't want that much connection."

"Ah, okay. I just thought it might be nice to share; Melanie asked in science if we might turn the group into a kind of scrapbook group for the whole process. You could post updates for people who were actually interested."

"Oh! Um... I guess that might be nice. I'll be going back next week anyway, so I could get a picture to keep then. In the meantime, I do kinda like that idea for the group... Can you invite me so I can let people know I'm okay?"

"Yeah, sure!" Zane said, pulling out his phone and getting on Facebook to invite and admin Kira in the group.

Hi everyone, Kira here. Someone suggested to turn this group into a sort of update hub, for anyone who might actually like to know how this pregnancy is progressing. I thought "why not?" - I'm not exactly overjoyed at having gotten pregnant so young, but today I got a glimpse of how it's kinda beautiful in its own way, too... Anyway, after the incident in gym earlier today, I went to go get checked up, and got an ultrasound a week earlier than planned to see how the kit's doing. Both of us are fine, even if I'm still a little shaken up... Even though I decided a long time ago that there was no way I was going to abort this kid, I didn't think I'd get all that attached, but I don't think I've ever been as scared as I was for that hour or two earlier today; that, despite my best efforts, I could lose it... Anyway, as I said, we're fine. I'm also not saying 'he' or 'she' since I didn't let the nurse tell me what the kit's sex is. I'm attached enough to be very determined to be a good birthmom, but whatever family we find will basically take the kit in a closed adoption, I don't want me or Zane to have a kid hanging around in the backs of our minds. I'm just going to deliver and hopefully be done with it all so we can go back to our regular lives as teens. I will, though, provide an ultrasound picture from my regularly scheduled appointment next week to share here. Until next time! ~Kira Sune
