Summary (Contains CHAPTER ONE Spoilers!)

Now a couple, the cubs finish up their eventful day at the lake. Rowen becomes more confident in his abilities and can finally conjure up a flame on the first attempt, and for a longer duration. The two are making their way back home when Rowen invites Kira for dinner. He surprises Kiel with the invitation, and gives Kira her own surprise in his bedroom.

They both lay closely on their grassy, sandless personal beach, looking out at the expanse of water that was their small ocean. They both felt like they were on top of the world.

Rowen offered Kira his orange and a piece of dried meat. Both of which she gladly accepted.

Time seemed to have stopped for them, they were the only beings alive, and to ever have existed. They sat in reverie.

Rowen laid by Kira on his side, gently stroking her thigh, chewing silently. She gnawed on the orange, petting his arm.

It was only just past lunch time. He still had the rest of the day to be with her.

Rowen finally broke the silence, "It seemed like you understand your power pretty well," she looked at him. "Why, then, did you get a book simply called Wind?"

"You probably didn't see it, but on the spine," she dug through her bag and retrieved the book, handing it to Rowen, "but, it says 'Air Element: Volume II." She petted him again, "I am just now figuring out that there are so many different things you can learn. My strong suit is air, I don't know any of the other powers, or, how to use them, anyway, but, I would like to learn water. It would be beneficial for you," she poked his arm with a sharp claw, "to learn wind."

"What? Why?" Rowen did want to learn it, but he didn't know why it would be a good idea.

"Think. You could turn that fireball into something... else."

"Like what?" Rowen was genuinely intrigued at this point.

"Like being able to hurl it, or..." she took the last bite of the orange. "Here, stand up." she ordered, excitedly.

Rowen consumed the last bit of the meat, wiped his hands on his pants and stood up.

"Make your flame again."

Flick.

Kira stared at it for a moment before continuing. Setting both paws on Rowen's shoulders, she closed her eyes. Wind whirled around them. Rowen stood silent. The wind became violent almost, swirling round and round them.

Suddenly, the flame leapt from his hand, joining the swirling vortex. Kira opened up her eyes to an alive-seeming cyclone of flame. All that could be heard was the howling wind and crackling of fire. All around them, flames raced.

They witnessed this volatile dance for about a minute.

Rowen's flame finally died, and so too, did Kira's wind.

"Oh my god!" Rowen exclaimed, still analyzing what had just happened. "I see now, thank you."

Kira flopped on the ground, flat on her back, exhausted. She heaved and closed her eyes.

She felt something touch her breast. She blushed, incredibly embarrassed, until she looked, Rowen laid the back of his head on her chest. She was about to push him off, but decided not to, as he wasn't doing anything necessarily wrong besides resting. So, she instead wrapped her arm around him sweetly.

"Kira," Rowen asked after a few minutes, looking up at her.

"Yes?"

He blushed, looking away from her nervously, taking a deep breath before returning her gaze. He locked his fingers with hers, "I love you."

Kira glowed with embarrassment, flustered and caught off guard. She was silent for a few moments, clenching her paw inside his, "I love you, too." She held him tighter.

Returning his head to his pillow, he closed his eyes, smiling in her embrace. They both dozed off.

Kira was the first to awaken. The sun was almost setting, a sleeping Rowen on her chest, hugging her arm, still holding hands. She watched him for a few minutes before waking him up. So peaceful.

"Pssst, hey," she gently rocked him, "Ro-," she stopped and thought for a second. After taking a deep breath, she rocked him again, "Hon, wake up."

Looking up at Kira sleepily, managing a soft, "Hello." both of them rosy cheeked.

"Should we start heading home now?" Kira offered, lifter her arm off of him.

"No," Rowen answered quickly, grabbing her arm and replacing it on himself. "Let us watch the sun set first.

"Okay," she happily agreed, lifting Rowen up, repositioning herself so she was lounging against him. She rests her head on his shoulder, cheeks burning, absolutely content.

The sky was a beautiful pink, changing with haste.

"Once more?" Rowen asked Kira, staring into the depths of her emerald eyes.

He wrapped his arms around her neck and leaned in close. She connected her lips with his, less awkwardly this time. She held his head in her paws, smoothing his hair. She moaned as she felt him, she didn't want to run away this time, she wanted to stay forever.

Brushing her cheek with a finger, he forced his lips to pull away, her lips followed for a moment, wishing for this moment to last forever.

"I love you."

"I love you."

Fingers intertwined inseparably, the two began down the path.

Flick.

Rowen led the way by fire-light.

"That's a handy trick you have," Kira leaned on him, hugging his right arm with both of her arms.

The fire lit the way, burning as brightly as Rowen's new found feelings for Kira. "I've..." Rowen began, "I've never kissed or even hugged someone else before. Not in this way." he admitted, a little embarrassed.

She nodded, "Same for me too, you were my first kiss." Kira looked down, "I really enjoyed it though, Rowen. Thanks."

They both glowed with embarrassment.

They finally reached town. It was always pretty well illuminate, so Rowen put out his flame, extinguishing it by clenching his fist, hearing a satisfying sizzling sound as it fizzles out. They finally decided to distance themselves, now just sharing paws. "Would you like to see if you can have inner with me?" Rowen offered.

"Sure, but I will have to make sure it is alright with my mom first. It will only take about ten minutes." Kira was excited.

"Good, then I will wait right here."

Kira sped off to go get permission, joyfully.

I still have to ask Kiel.

It was about seven minutes to get home so he decided not to go and ask Kiel for permission. He did however spot a jewelry merchant who was packing up. Running over to the stand, he looked at all of the glimmering golds and silvers.

He spotted a small silver necklace with a wavy emblem on the bottom. Rowen's eyes widened, "Excuse me ma'am, but how much is this?

The merchant turned around, she hadn't notice the boy. Peering over the counter, she saw him pointing.

"Oh this?" She picked up the necklace, "Four silver coins, eighteen pieces."

Rowen's hope died. He only had four coins. "Ma'am," he began, tugging on her robe, looking around to see if Kira was returning, exasperated. His ears flat, alarmed, and embarrassed, "I only have four coins."

The lady put her boney hand up to her mouth weighing her options.

"Please Madame,"

"Okay fine, but you will owe me eighteen pieces, okay?"

Rowen was overjoyed. He set the money on the counter and retrieved the necklace.

"Pay me back when you can," the woman smiled, "Now go, before she sees you here!"

Rowen obeyed, a radiant smile plastered across his face.

Upon returning to the meeting spot and counting his blessings, he saw Kira skipping back happily.

The couple passed the jewelry stand, Rowen bid his thanks, silently.

It warmed the woman's heart to see the cubs, she was happy with her decision, and she thought the revelry was because he had already given her the necklace.

Upon arriving at his house, they separated and Rowen entered. "Kiel," he tugged his foster mother's shirt.

"Ah, there you are, just in time. What is it?" Kiel hugged him.

"Can Kira eat with us? She has permission from her mom, she is waiting outside."

"Well, I guess," Kiel looked annoyed, "you need to warn me beforehand, I don't have enough food."

"We can split it, I don't mind. I just gave her my orange anyway."

"Well, I guess," Kiel agreed, wondering if Rowen understood what giving an orange to somebody symbolized. He probably didn't.

He did.

"Hey, come in," he went outside to great her with a quick peck on the cheek.

"Hello, madame Kiel," Kira entered, nervously.

"Hello, Kira." Kiel smiled back.

She warned Kira that she would have only half-a-serving. Like Rowen predicted, Kira didn't mind. They both received their food and went to eat in the bedroom.
