FearForm [Chapter 2] by NightlySnow

"Welcome to FearForm. Where we help you conquer your worst fear." Came the distorted voice of the announcer. "This week, we have kidnapped Dasaki, a blue Nevrea from Arkansas."

The screen slowly showed the footage from a recording camera. A blue bird laid on the floor that appeared to be a cave. The only source of light was a flashlight that was turned on, the beam hitting the bird.

"This Nevrea is about to be put to the test. Will he conquer his fear and go home with 11 million dollars? Or will he be turned into the thing he fears the most? Let's find out on this week's FearForm."

Dasaki slowly opened his eyes, blinking to adjust to the low light. He lifted his head to see a flashlight, pointing at him. He slowly got up, his legs were killing him. The bird picked up the light and moved it around. It appeared that he was in some sort of cave.

"Was I hiking and fell?" Questioned the bird.

He rubbed his head, a sharp pain suddenly hit him as his wing ran over the back of his head. He shined the light on his wing to see blood, his own blood. He jumped back in surprise.

"What the f..." The birds words were interrupted as he spotted something on the wall a little ways down. He shined the light on it. It appeared to be writing. He walked a couple of feet and examined the writing.

It was a simple message in red, bold letters: 'Exit' with a arrow pointing to the left.

The Nevrea hesitated. He had no idea how he got into the cave and had no memory of exploring it. He shined the light down the tunnel. It appeared to be okay. Is it possible that he was just being paranoid? What was the odds that this was a prank? Who ever was responsible for putting the sign could get explores killed.

He shined his light in the opposite direction of the arrow. It looked to be okay as well. He stared at the sign. "Why do I feel so paranoid?" He questioned. His grip tightened around the flashlight. He turned left and began to walk.

The cave was so cold and seemed to get colder the further he walked. Maybe he should have gone the other way. As he continued to walk a new entrance opened up. He stopped, trying to determine which way he should go. He smiled as he bent down and picked up a couple of rocks with his wings. He tossed a rock far down the new opening. He listened to the echos that were created. He tossed the other rock down his current path. He was silent again as he listened to the echos, they were much louder than the first rock.

"The new opening it is." He whispered. "The echo test never fails."

He continued his walk, smiling at the brilliant trick he had learned. If the echos were loud, chances were high it was a dead end. The tunnel soon opened to a big area. His smile turned to a frown as he looked at the multiple tunnels. Which one? He knew he shouldn't had followed the sign. He took a couple of steps forward, kicking something on the ground. It was a dagger, he picked it up examining it. "Weird."

SLOP.

He jump at the weird sound behind him. He flashed the light down the tunnel he had just came from. He saw what appeared to be movement.

"Hello?" He called.

The was no anwser.

"Hello?" He called again.

He saw movement again. He took a few steps forward. The light relieved more of the tunnel. He dropped the flashlight, scared out of his mind. A huge centipede was before him. His heart beat fast as he stared at the humongous creature. It had to have been two city blocks long. He slowly backed up, clutching the knife with both wings, holding it out in front of him.

The monster didn't move. His legs wiggled every now and then but he didn't retreat nor jump forward. Dasaki slowly moved back, the area around him getting darker by the second. His back hit a hard object, causing him to freak out and fall to the ground, dropping the knife.

He looked for the lost dagger but couldn't find it. He let out a sigh of relief to see the giant monster was still keeping his distance. He patted the ground some more.

PAT. PAT. PAT. SLOP.

His wing touched something wet and slimy. He held his wing to his face, trying to determine the substance. He couldn't identify it. He looked at the source. It was a long, skinny object. He grabbed it and followed it to a wall. He touched it. The wall was slimy too.

He began to panic as he felt the wall move. It was another giant centipede. He ran, falling every few steps as the other monster gave chase. Tears fell out of his eyes as he pictured his death. He turned his head to glance at the thing to realize it wasn't following him. He panicked as he looked for it. His eyes traveled to the ceiling to see it charging from above.

He ran as fast as he could, however, he fell again. His legs had given out on him. He grabbed his right leg, realizing how skinny it felt. He touched his left. It was skinny as well, and starting to get slimy. He let out sharp breaths. He felt so weird. His wings started to tingle and he held them up to his face.

He held his breath as his blue feathers started to fall off. His wings slowly became more small slimy legs. He let a high pitch scream at the sight. More feathers began to fall off. Another scream filled the cave as his body started to grow longer.

His whole body was pale, yellow, and slimy. He was at least a block long. His face was last to take shape. Scream after scream sounded as his bird like features were replaced by a centipede face. The cave grew silent as Dasaki could no longer cry for help. He began to slither down a random passage way, seeming to have no memory of his previous life.

"Well, well, well." Came the announcer's voice. "It seems Dasaki from Arkansas just couldn't face his fears. Oh, well. Maybe the next contestant will have better luck. See you next time on FearForm."
