Chapter 8

The hardship

The next morning I woke up with a smile on my face. I looked to my side. Marina was gone. I clasped back down on the bed. Slowly I became more awake. I started to smell the cooking of bacon and the cracking of eggs. Ah she making me breakfast. How sweet of her. I smiled and got up. I walked into the kitchen. Fallowing the wonderful smell of bacon and eggs and do I smell steak too?

I saw her standing in front of a wood burning stove working hard on our breakfast. I snuck up behind her quietly as possible. I reached out with my arms and swooped in and jabbed her sides. "Got cha." I spoke out.

She jumped out of her skin practically. I looked at her face. Priceless, I nearly fell on the floor in laughter. She tried to hit me but I was too quick for her and dodged.

"Couldn't resist it, sorry." I told her sitting in the living room but still laughing.

"You jerk wad. I'm over here slaving over a hot stove and you decide to pull little stunt?"

She yells at me. Her face was so damn cute. Blush mixed with anger. Now that's priceless.

"YUP." I smarted off.

She giggled. She returned back to the stove. "I would put some clothes on before Kara gets here. I sent her message, inviting her over for some breakfast."

"How did you do that?" I asked.

"There's this nifty little gadget on that wall over there." She pointed over to the wall. It looked like a lantern. "It's call gally its sends word vibration through little vines that go to house to house. All you do is pulling on a little laver to open a small mouth piece that you speak in. It's quite claver in fact. She'll be here in a few minutes so if I were you I would put some clothes on."

I looked down and finally noticing that I was still completely nude. I hopped up and ran back to the bedroom. Threw on some clothes and got back into the living room. That was when Kara knocked on the door. I opened it and invited her in. "Right on time Kara." Marina told her. She place three plates down on the table. Kara sat down as I helped Marina carrying the plates of egg, bacon and steak to the table as she got the orange juice. "I just squeezed them this morning. Right after I got up." She told us as she sat down. I grabbed my fork and started at the steak when Kara slapped my hand. "Say your prayer first young man." She barked at me. In sigh I closed my hand together and closed my eyes. "Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for this wonderful food that was placed before me and hope that is nourishes our body a men. Let's eat." I grabbed my fork and stuck two steaks and got bacon and eggs.

I smacked my lips as I chewed the steak in my mouth. Oh was it good. I don't know what it is about women and their cooking. I swallowed and spoke out in pleasure, "Oh Marina I haven't had anything this good in years." I told her.

"Hey what about my mother's cooking. She taught me everything there is to know." She snapped at me. I smiled at her, "I know love. Your mother was a good cook."

I saw a tear rolled down her cheek. Something was up. I waited until after Kara left before asking her what was up.

I was sitting on the couch reading a small book. Marina came up and sat beside me. She leaned up to me. I nudged her a bit, "Hey what's up."

She started to cry. "Mom and Dad are both dead. They were killed by the shadows right after you left. I ran myself after mother had me to run. I didn't know what to do so I looked for you and found that you had fallen." I moved around where she sat in my lap.

I was too feeling it. But I could not shed tears anymore. I have lost so much in these several years of what was my life. All I can do is comfort her.

Well I comfort her until she cried herself to sleep. I slowly got up with her in my arms and took her into our room and put her in bed. I on the other hand went outside to smoke. I grabbed my pipe and a small pack of Tobacco. I lit it and toke a puff. I exhaled it slowly, savoring the flavor and the feel. It was nice outside. Nice and cool and bit a warm in the air. Kara walked by and saw me outside. SO she came over. "Mind if I have a puff on that."

"I thought Shaman's do not smoke." I joked.

"How did you come by such a rare item?" She replied coldly taking the pipe out of my hand.

"I got it back awhile from a trade." I said. I sighed taking my pipe back and now holding it in my hand. "It's weird how much my life changed in only a short time."

I felt a hand on my shoulder. "I know that feeling Drako. I may look old but I'm only twenty three in human years. I was posted as Shaman of this village when I was only eighteen when my grandmother the shaman before me had passed away. Because of my work of being shaman I could settle down and have kids. OR find a nice male fox to relieve my pains. I felt lonely and pushed away. My father won't even look at me because of it."

I looked at her, "Kara if you'd like you can come with us once I've finished healing." I offered.

"But I can't just leave my village." She back up.

"Look at it like this. If this village won't even look at you why will you keep staying? This village won't accept you for who you are. Trust me Kara you will be more welcomed if you'd come with us." I turned around taking one last puff off the pipe before putting it out. "Think about it Kara. Plus I think you're beautiful and whoever thinks otherwise is a damn fool."

I walked inside leaving Kara in shock of what I had said. I lay down on the couch and went asleep.

The next couple days went by fast. I was able to take my bandages off. I told Marina we'll be setting out pretty soon. I was in the lounge room reading more on the book that I had start when I got here. When Kara came barging in, Tears of sorrow in her eyes. "It's happening Drako." She said clasping on my lap. Just like Marina had done not to long ago.

"Whats happening?" I asked still in shock.

"My village doesn't need me anymore. They want me to leave the village and never return."

I placed my hand on her head. "You can come with us. You village is stupid to just throw away such a wonderful person." Her ears perked.

"You mean it you'll let me come with you and Marina?" She cried out. Marina right behind me nodded and so did I.

She wailed and cried out, "Thank you both."

The next day we left the village at half past one and made our way through Merlin forest.

When we walked out the forest, I took a whiff of the air and found the smell of blood. It was near. "Kara is there any village beyond Merlin's forest?" I asked giving her a pale look.

"Yes. There is a small village just up......" She trailed of she smelt it too. "No, you don't think-

"I know..." I opened my wings and took to the sky. "You two stay here. I'll scout ahead and see what I can find."

It took me about half hour to reach the small village. There was nothing. No fires. Not even the buildings were touched. But something was wrong. I smelt a strong stench of rotting flesh and blood. I realized, "SHIT."

Not even a second after I said that I was hit in the head by something hard.

I fell to the ground and hit it knocking me out cold. I heard a large laugh.

I woke few hours later with my head hurting. I opened my eyes almost afraid to. I found myself near a fire with a rag on my forehead. I felt something on lying on my stomach. I pulled my head up to look. It was Marina, and she was dead a sleep. My eyes went to my right. Kara was lying on the other side of the fire. It was dark out and it looked like it was about to storm. "So you're awake?" I heard a voice behind me. "Why did you fallow me and Marina?"

"Because you a dushbag."

"But Jin you can get yourself killed." I stated to him. Still behind me, he punched me in the head. "It was you who knocked me out."

"Well of course. You deserve it for running. You were afraid of what Marina would think if she saw you true form. That form was only half of what you could become Drako. King Gazer can give you so much more power if you joined him." He told me.

I jumped up, Marina fell and hit the ground. I looked around. He was gone. I heard him laugh. "I'll talk to you again soon Brother." His laughed faded into the darkness.

"Drako's what wrong."

"WE need to get a move on. I feel like something evil is taking place. Kara wake up now." She stirred a bit turning over. I throw her staff at her. "I hope you like flying."

"Why." She muffled voice as she got up. "God this tails gets into everything. Even in my own face."

"Put up with it. Marina can you carry Kara." I said picking up my sword. Pulling it was its sheath. "Good it's in perfect condition. I feel we'll be battling soon."

We dowsed the fire and took off into the sky. Kara was starting to feel it. There was a great evil residing ahead of us. "Kara isn't there a castle about three miles ahead?"

In the air she pulls out her map and looked. "Yeah it is. It also looks like, Kindlahoff if about half a mile away from there. We'll land there for tonight and get ready for tomorrow."

We flew about what felt like hours. It wasn't until, "Drako, there shadows ahead."

I looked a head. She was right. IN the distance even though it's dark, I could see shadows erupting out of the darkness. "Damn it, Marina we have to split up. You take Kara and get to that Village. I'll catch up with you later."

No sooner I had said that. Marina gained speed and took off towards the town. I on the other hand landed waiting for the shadows to come. I pulled my sword out. "I got an idea." I told myself. I ran my hand over the sword and made it catch fire. "Well now it's a fire sword." I shoot a fire blast up into the air where it lit up the darkness.

I saw them come. One jumped up and clawed me in the face. "You shouldn't have done that." I slashed my sword over the shadow. It screamed out in anger and agony. It vanished. One came up behind and stabbed me in the back. "Ugh"

I roared out in pain. I fell to the ground and blacked out...

I woke up tied up in a dark room. "Well, brother you're awake again. I'm surprised you survived that fall. But your friends on the other hand will be disposed of." He snapped his fingers and a window opened up. Behind it was Kara and Marina tied up. Under them was a pool of water with Alligators. One jumped up and chomped at Marina.

"NOO" I roared. 'How could I let this happened?' "Let them go. Please they have nothing to do with this."

He laughed at my plea. It was pointless. I'm going to watch my lover, my mate die in front of me. I gritted my teeth. "You are a fucking bastard." I won't let this happen. I won't watch my love die. Not with my son! Some pulsed inside of me. I felt myself go. The ground started to shake. Marina and Kara screamed. "What's going on?" I heard Jin yell out. He looked at me. My eyes glowed red. My hair turned black. I felt myself embrace the power. "You messed with the wrong person JIN!" I spoke out in a completely different voice. IT was deeper, more dragon-like. I ripped the ropes that confined me. My horns grew, my tail grow thicker. My muscle bulked up. My teeth grew again. I reached out beside me. A sword appeared inside my hand. I looked at it, "I'll borrow this for now."

Jin was dumbfounded at my transformation. He was shivering in fear. "How could this be?" He growled, "Still you're no matching for me little brother!" He jumped up and smashed through the flooring. No sooner he did that the whole place started to crumble. I ran and punched the glass and grabbed both Kara and Marina. With both on my back I jumped through the hole in the floor. I landed on a marble floor. Light burst on. Laughing echoed through the chamber. It was a battle arena. Standing in front of me was Jin and some other Person. I gasped it was Gazer. How did her get here. In his hand was a staff. "No" I whispered.

"Yes Drako this is the Staff of Openings." He spoke out. "But you won't be live long enough to get your hands on it. Take care of him Jin."

He disappeared leaving a dark Vapor.

"With pleasure my King." Jin ran forward hit me in the face. He grabbed me by his tail and threw me into the air. He vanished, and appeared in front of me. He kicked me in the stomach. I gasped out. I felt the air leave my body. He then grabbed my hand and threw me to the ground. I hit the ground with such force it caused the floor to crumble. He took his sword and came down. He stabbed me in the heart. I heard Marina scream out in horror. I was fading fast. Pain like no other struck me. I tried to move but...

Ok Little something before Submitting. I would like to say thank you to all who like my story. This one has gotten to be the best one i've done. This will be made into a book later on. OH and by the way. When I get to chapter 14. I'm not going to submit it on Yiffstar or FA. If you want to find out more. You will have to wait until ether next year or year after next. So be prepered. I'm sorry for the news and the reason why is because someone on Yiffstar or FA had read my story and copyed it. I read it on another site and it had the same plot but different name... And I mean the axated plot that my story has. I have no idea who this Jerk is but who ever is doing it Stop it. This is my story and mine alone. If anyone want take over my story they'll have to pay for it in Cash otherwise It's mine. I have gotten hold of a publisher and she told me to get it finished and send it in.
