As the sun rose in the barracks as second lieutenant Glaive and lieutenant lance awoke and adorned their armour in preparation for the briefing with captain Shining Armour and the rest of the group. Glaive was in the bathroom making sure that everything about himself was at least slightly above par, this included making sure his steely mane was in the right position so that none would fall out of his helmet; his golden armour was polished as well as his grey horn.

"Oi, come on. We gotta' go." Lance bellowed through the closed door. "You hear me. You're not skipping out again like that time WE had to pick up that meteor and then YOU decided to toddle off to... Celestia knows where!" he was getting more irritated by the second and Glaive feared he would bust down the door any second.

"Ok, ok. I'm done sheesh." Glaive said as he walked past Lance, not daring to look the white Pegasus in the eyes, fearing the wrathful gaze that was already burning into his skull. "Shall we be going then." He said trying to move the conversation onto a different topic.

They both walked in silence down to the guard station. Upon entering they noticed it was completely silent as all heads turned towards them and Shining Armour glared at them. "I've been waiting for you two. Sit down." He said with a distinct distain for them. As they sat down shining armour began the briefing. "Alright then, from what I've heard from Princess Twilight Sparkle, it seems that something managed to escape the meteor before we found it. Now, what I want to know is who was assigned that position?" Lance slowly lowered his hoof into the air and clubbed Glaive over the head when he noticed he had not done the same, after that Glaive's hoof shot up in the air. "Alright, You two," he pointed at the two guards. "Stay behind after the briefing."

Shining Armour continued the briefing but the two did not focus as they were too worried about their captain had in store for them. As the group of guards left, Glaive and Lance headed towards their superior. "So that was your jobs then?" he asked.

"Umm well, not mine per say. I was in the sick bay at the time of that mission." Glaive somewhat pleaded.

"Bucking liar, you just skipped out your name wasn't even on the file that day it's..." Lance couldn't finish before Shining Armour interrupted.

"Just stop. (Sigh) listen I don't care if you were in sick bay or not was that your mission?" The captain asked.

"Yes." Glaive quietly admitted.

"Then you two have got to fix this mess. The princess said that the creature was an earthy brown colour and has hunted in Ponieville."

"Hunted!" they both shouted at once.

"Yes. It appears that it has already claimed four victims; two ex-convicts, an innocent female and an innocent male. She also said that it may be working with a black tar like creature as well." Glaive felt like he could die right there out of pure fear of this creature and its helper. "I know I'm asking a lot of you two but if you do find it and things become too difficult call for reinforcement, aright." He said with clear pity in his voice for what these two had to face.

"So what do we do from here, sir?" the Pegasus asked.

"We will have you sent to Ponieville and you will be allowed your own temporary accommodation and you will start your search from there." He said, but when they did not move he shouted, "What are you waiting for, a bucking invitation? GO!" the two then bolted out of the room, collected their spears and went to where the chariots were held.
