#6 of Under Cloak of Darkness

"This is odd..." Dameon said as he looked around the room. It was a solid stone room with no windows or doors. There were no lamps, but the room was completely lit, making no shadows at all. The only noise was the sound of screaming, human and furry alike. He shrugged.

"At least I have something enjoyable to listen to," he said to himself. Suddenly the wall at the end of the room opened and a figure walked into the chamber. It was a man in a cloak. The cloak covered his face, but allowed his two burning red eyes to show. Dameon's own became the same color as he entered the dungeon.

"You! What do YOU want?!" he shouted angrily. "What is this place and what am I doing here?!"

"This is the dungeon you made for yourself in life. Everyone makes a room in their life in which to live in the afterlife. The condition of the room and its appearance depends on how you live your life. If you live a good life without sin, you pretty much get a beautiful condominium. But if you live a life as you have lived yours, you get a crappy dungeon without any pleasures," Death explained.

"You sound like a real estate agent," Dameon said coolly. "So wait, am I dead?"

"Unfortunately, no you're not," he sighed.

"Well! I feel offended! So how do I get out of here?" Dameon asked.

"Why in hell would I tell you? I hate you!" he laughed. Dameon smiled and slumped into the wall, hitting his head multiple times.

"What are you doing?" Death asked.

"This is obviously a dream, so if I cause myself pain I'll wake up," Dameon reasoned. The room started to shake a little. He continued.

"This is your future if you keep up this life you live, I suggest you change your ways," Death said and walked out of the room. The room shook harder until a wall fell apart and light bled through it. He stood up, walked over to it, and stepped into the light.

"AH!" he woke with a start. He looked around; he was on his bed in his own room. He looked next to him. Holi was lying on his chest, breathing heavily. He was in her grasp. He tried to escape without her waking, but moving would obviously stir her slumber. He looked around the room and saw a large, brown teddy bear on the other side of the room. He reached out his hand towards the teddy. It gently levitated off the ground and floated towards him. He grabbed it out of the air and gently placed it between him and the sleeping reptile. She gripped it and rolled over, moaning a little. He stood up and walked to the door. He opened it and walked out.

Standing in the hallway of his catacombs, he turned to the right and walked to the end of a passage. He took a left and stood at a dead end. Looking around for a second, he pressed his hand against the wall. Numerous white lines cut the wall into pieces, each of them moving apart from each other. He walked straight through them, the wall reforming behind him. He entered a long, unlit hallway, with torches all down it. There was no apparent end to this hall, but he started walking like there was. Each torch lit as Dameon walked past them. In little time, the hall was bright as the sun. He reached a door at the end of the hall and pushed it open. He walked into a warehouse-sized room with a huge gyroscope in its center. The gyroscope had shackles in the middle and sharp pikes running along the blades.

"Soon, you will be put to good use my friend, very soon," he said and patted the metal outer ring. He sighed and stepped backwards, but as he did, a soft cry came from behind one of the pillars in front of the door. Dameon walked around them and saw Holi crouched in a corner.

"Holi?! What are you doing here?! And how did you get down here, anyway?" he asked angrily.

"I just put my hand on the wall like you did, and it opened. I...was...trying to find you," she stuttered. He let his head slump into his chest.

"Why?" he asked. "Please enlighten me."

"I have something really important to tell you," Holi said.

"What could it be?" he asked politely.

"Well, I...I'm...we're..." she tried to tell him, but only butchered her sentence. Finally, Holi rubbed her hands together and got her sentence out.

"I'm pregnant!" she shouted. Dameon's head shot out of slump-mode and stared straight at her, his eyes were a color that even she had never seen. They were a light shade of tan, almost yellow. They stayed this way for a few seconds, and then changed back to blue.

"I'm sorry; I just went on a mild acid trip. What did you say?" he asked, fully convinced that he hadn't heard what he thought he heard.

"I'm pregnant, Dameon! We're going to have a baby!" Holi shouted and hugged him around the waist as she always did. He pushed her off of him.

"How the hell did that happen?" he asked angrily.

"I'm a lizard, we conceive very quickly," she explained. "Aren't you happy?"

"Happy? Happy?! I'm just ECSTATIC!" he shouted. She backed up a few steps, unaware of what this new rage would bring.

"Oh yesss, I'm completely ecstatic that my immortality will be destroyed with the birth of an annoying, little plague! I hate those...things. After seven o'clock they're more merciless than I am!" he screamed. He stepped towards her menacingly. Holi backed up until she couldn't move, until she was cornered against a wall. Dameon kept walking.

"Dameon...you're scaring me," Holi whispered.

"Good! I should be scaring you right now! You've already brought up my worst fear! Why shouldn't I bring up yours?!" he stepped up to her. She quivered in fear. His eyes were a shade of red so dark, they were close to being black. He reached his out with his hand as if going to grab her. She pressed up against the wall and fell to the floor. He towered over her terrified form, arm still outstretched. He could grasp her if he wanted to (God knows he wanted to!), but there was something holding him back. Her blue bathrobe's reflective surface shone a little bit in the torchlight.

"Dameon, baby, please don't do this," she begged. He had no mercy in his eyes. He reached out and quickly pulled his hand back.

"Aw, damn it! Why can't I do this? Why can't I just kill her and find another?" he asked himself, turning around and walking towards the gyroscope.

"Because, silly Dameon, she's not 'just another', remember?" his schizophrenia told him.

"These are the times I really wish I were sane," Dameon cursed his inner voice. He was really tired of the whole 'just another' thing! It was fucking annoying!

He turned to face Holi, who was now wiping tears out of her eyes. He fell to his knees and looked at her. She stood up and walked over to him, tying her bathrobe tight as she did.

"I'm sorry, Holi, I'm so sorry," he said weakly. She walked behind him and put her hands on his shoulders. He looked at her. She looked back.

"I accept. What's your perspective on names?" she asked him gently.

"Depends if it's boy or girl," he said. "I like Dexter, though..."
