#2 of Caves Hold Treasure

A man wakes up from a very strange dream... Or was it actually a dream?

This chapter explains a lot about the last one, plus it finally gives a name to some characters.

However, it doesn't have anything to paw off to. It's important for the storyline though!

Wake up, little one.

The word echoes through your mind, as you shoot up. Bed sheets? In a flash, your hands are above the sheets, looking perfectly normal. Not even a tiny flake of obsidian remaining. Nails back to normal. Feeling over your entire body, you still expect the rough texture of scales to be there. Nothing but smooth skin, the way it's supposed to be. Stepping out, your balance is off for a moment as you're missing a tail, and you realize it must've been a dream. Can't have been anything else.

Making your way to the bathroom, you still have to get used to your legs, for some reason. It was a dream damn it! Glancing up at the mirror, in a shock you realize your eyes are still solid black, slitted pupils, orange burning irises. You stumble backward, blinking over and over again. No, they're the sea green they always were, round pupil, nothing special. Why was that dream so vivid? You barely ever dream, and now it's burned its way into your mind. A shower will get it out of your mind, probably. You should check on Morgan afterward. If he's feeling better, you can go explore that cave, without dreaming it this time.

After getting clean and drying off, you just grab a loose fitting T-shirt and a pair of jeans and head out. This hotel was pretty damn cheap, and it's got good rooms and a reliable AC. The owner wasn't even surprised at a pair of cave explorers, and he offered to void the payment for some extra days while Morgan got over that flu. Really nice guy.

Knocking on your friends' door, you hear him say it's open, so you just walk in, and see him sitting on the side of the bed, slipping on his own t-shirt. He's a pretty normal guy, nothing really remarkable. More obvious than you are in the abs part, not really a six-pack, but he's a tad leaner than you are, so that explains. Mountaineering and spelunking requires a good amount of endurance and strength and what he doesn't have in that department, you don't have in the agility department even though the difference is negligible. Black hair, soft brown eyes and a scruffy beard with a tinge of gray, just a bit too long.

"You feeling better man?"

"Loads. Still got sore muscles, but nothing much. How about we take it easy one last day and then go climbing together tomorrow?"

"Sure thing. Hey, I had this weird ass dream... There was a dragon down there, can you believe it?"

"Dude.. What did you smoke? You came back, said the system was too damn large to go through alone. Even though you stayed away for a good couple of hours..."

"Eh... Wow. Must've been more tired than I thought. Don't remember any of it, feels like I dreamt it. Must've half dreamt it, I mean, dragons?" You both chuckle. "But let's go down and get some grub."

"Yeah, let's. I'm starving."

Agreement made, you both get out of the room and down to the breakfast hall. The hotel was a B&B, so you at least got your first meal of the day in. Pancakes, a couple of sandwiches, a good strong Cup o' Joe. Breakfast of champions, you muse as you look around at other guests. There's a few but none you would point out as fellow climbers. Which wasn't that odd, this place is one of those B-sites, the ones where only people who know the place go to. Or those who have a job to do, like yourself and Morgan.

Good morning, little one.

The words slam into your being again, and you let your plate fall. Thankfully, it's a plastic one, and there was nothing left on it, but still. Not a dream? But how... You're human. Not a dragon... It was a dream damnit.. . You force the words into your mind as you pick up your plate and put it away to be cleaned.

We can change our shape, little one. When you woke up, you said you wanted to go back because of your friend. So back you are. It does not surprise me you are thinking reality is a dream. It is quite exhausting for both of us, no? Ah, but do not worry, I will let you explore the caves together. You will not find me in the room we were together in.

It's real. Can't be anything else. Telepathy?

Yes. The bond between the one who changed and the one who changed him.

You take a mental double take, and you feel the dragon laugh.

Go ahead, pet. Take all the time you need to get used to it. You have only just started your way down the path.

You shudder a moment as he calls you pet. Even though you can't actually hear him, only feel his words, you know he said it the same way as yesterday. Laced with lust and... Love?

"Umm, hello? Earth to Richard. You're zoning out."

You snap back to reality, and look at Morgan.

"Sorry, I just had a moment of planning. Mapped a bit of the system so I know what I want you to see before we explore a bit. There's an open lava flow pretty close to the surface. We can set up camp there, I guess? It'll be warm."

"Yeah, sounds good. Anything else that's down there I should know about?"

"Not really. Pretty normal ex-volcanic system for the most part. Loads of branches off the main lava tunnel, so there might be geode or two down there. That'd be a cash-in."

"Yeah, it would. But why ex-volcanic? You just said there's an open flow."

"Eh... There's no signs of that flow going past where it is now in the last few millennia. So that's why."

Morgan nods. Makes sense, a lot of supposed extinct volcanoes still have a bit of life in them.

You hit the town together after breakfast. It's a reasonably sized town in Mexico. Not one of the bigger ones, but everyone's courteous, hospitable, and when you mention you're both geologists, they go wide eyed and said they'd never expect that from two muscled figures who could easily both be heavy weight boxers. When you then explain that you're field geologists, and that requires lots and lots of mountaineering, they go back to understanding and just being impressed with your doctorates.

There's a few museums in town, mostly about the history of the area though there's one nature-historical one. That one's not been visited yet, so that one's the place you're going to waste a few hours, looking at some very, very well preserved fossils and even an entire dinosaur, though the species eludes you. It was an absolutely huge creature according to the info tag, weighing more than five metric tons while it was alive.

But even the most fascinating of creatures can only hold your attention for so long, and before you know it, you're outside again, with no clue on what to do next.

Morgan however, does have a plan.

"You know, I'm feeling way better. We could go there now, and set up camp then get to work mapping out the system tomorrow. We've seen all there's to see here anyway."

"Right, back to the hotel, pay for the rooms, get all our gear and get over there. If you're really sure you're feeling better..."

"I am. And I just need to get out there! You've seen things I've not, so I'm kind of jealous."

"Ahahaha, this time it's the other way around, and Morgan isn't liking that! Consider it payback for Indonesia."

"I thought we were not going to mention that ever again!"

"Well I just did." You adjust your sunglasses a bit. "Deal with it."

Indonesia's a fond little memory where Morgan managed to find a nice geode cave and was just relaxing there for an hour before going to get the rest of the team. Of course, this resulted in him getting dunked into the nearest river, climbing gear and all, once everyone got out of the caves. After that everyone agreed, debt paid, never mention it again. Except this one time.

So on to the caves you go. Both packed with the gear needed to keep yourselves alive for a week or two in the wilderness. You easily find your way back down, after letting your packs down the crevasse, and down the lava tunnel.

Ah, you are back. And you have brought your friend. Do not worry pet, as I promised, I am not in that room. The smell is also gone.

You're getting used to the voice. It's getting slightly natural, and soon you reach that room your life changed in. True to his word, it's vacant, not a shred of evidence as to what happened there yesterday. Not a hint in the air or on the ground and the lava flow's undisturbed. Now that you're here with a clear mind, you finally take a good look around the room. It's a large cave with a few crystals here and there, stalagmites and -tites plentiful. A few other tunnels branch off and you mark the tunnel you entered through.

Morgan whistles a bit, appreciating the room.

"You were not joking... This is a pretty nice base camp to work from. Won't even have to set up the tents. Not that I could push a hook into solid granite. And the flow's pretty hot too, nice light fixture."

"Told you. I'll get the sausages out."

"Ahaha, let's just get everything unpacked first, then dinner."

"Spoil sport."

You two manage to unpack everything pretty quickly. Not that there's a lot to unpack, the tents can stay in their bags and those are the biggest piece of equipment you bring along. Most of what you have is small, handy, and essential. A pair of laptops, with a few extra batteries each, a nifty little seismic sonar, sleeping bags, two weeks of food, and a few personal attributes. But now you've got a problem. Water. You both only have enough for a day or two, and you don't know where you can find more.

The tunnel opposite the flow, pet. There's an underground stream.

With a sigh, you mentally thank your master. Master? You realize you refer to him as that, without even questioning why. You make a mental note: Ask for his name next time you actually see each other... If there's a next time. Now how to make it seem like you're going to take a bit to find it...

"We don't have any extra water... I think I heard some flowing yesterday. I'll go check the tunnels a bit, you keep watch here?"

"Sure. Stupid of us to not pack some extra. I'll set up the cooking pot and stuff. Never cooked near lava before. It is pretty hot in here, no?"

You don't feel the heat. You must still have that feature from your dragon form. Don't reveal anything to him. Don't.

"Yeah, kind of. I guess you can just set it up closer to the flow. No need to put it over twelve-hundred degrees hot molten rock. Unless you want your meals charred."

You check a different tunnel first. That one seems to be a continuation of the tunnel you entered through, with nothing to see further down other than black.

"Nothing in this one, lava tunnel."

You then enter the one your master indicated. True to his word, after a minute or two of walking, there's a little turn and a underground stream. Even though it's dark in here, you can see perfectly. Must be another thing you gained. Quickly, you fill the plastic 5 gallon jug you have, and walk back, holding it up like in triumph.

"Got it, stream back here."

"Good! Now, anything else you checked out? Yesterday or?"

Morgan's got everything set up, including the pot with an arm, so he can swing it to and from the lava flow. A little mental image pops up in your mind, of your master's head suddenly emerging from the flow. Would scare the hell out of Morgan.

Funny, pet. But no, I am not in there. I am further down that last tunnel. By quite a bit, a good few hours walking in total.

Why do I call you master so easy? You mentally ask. And why wasn't I surprised at you being here at all?

You try to keep the mental conversation in the back of your mind, to not let Morgan notice anything, as you check your laptop's mapping programs and get to modeling a bit.

Like I said pet, I made a right choice. It is easy to push buttons people do not know they have. And our kind secretes a slight pheromone when not looking like humans. It makes them very, very susceptible to... suggestions. Nothing extreme, but it makes it easy for them to just accept things. Why do you ask? Do you not like being called my little pet? Or calling me your master?

The way he... sounds? Oh god, it's nothing short of sexy, in a strange way. You focus a bit on not letting your member betray anything, and it's working.

It's not that, I was just wondering. I... Didn't know I had those buttons, like you said. I've always been a bit interested in the play between a dom and a sub but... Nothing like this. Nothing as heavy as being called pet... Wanting to be called pet. Wanting to call you master. But... do you control me? Can you force me to do something?

Ah, do not worry, youngling. I cannot force you to do anything, and I will never tell you to do anything you do not want to do. You accepted a gift, and I will not turn it into a curse for you. After all, how am I giving you the pleasure I promised, if I force you to do something? Life is to be enjoyed... my little pet. Not spent doing things you do not enjoy doing.

There, you shudder again. His pet. It feels right. So very right. But you're at least happy about still being your own person. You glance at Morgan, and he's also busy on his computer, probably beginning the log.

"Hey, I've got most of this area mapped. Seems like the seismic is working."

"Yeah. I packed two extra power packs for it, so we can use it for both of the weeks."

"Cool. It'll suck having to do the modeling by hand."

"That it will. Say, pass me the dinner for today will you? My stomach is complaining."

So is your own, so you pass two quick-prepare meals over to Morgan, who loads them into the improvised heater and swings them over, closer to the lava flow.

What about him? I can't just sit here and let not tell him. He's my best friend and a close colleague...

I will move a bit closer to you two. Let him go out alone a bit in the days to come. I will begin to probe at him, find if he is as you are. If he is not, no harm done. If he is, and he comes to me, I will let you know, pet. Maybe I will even let you join us...

That last thought did it. You can't keep your erection down. You and your master, turning Morgan into a third dragon? And then fucking each other's brains out? It's the best, sexiest thought you've had in your entire life. The idea feels so incredibly right. Your eyes dart back to Morgan, and you begin mentally undressing him before you almost slap yourself. You don't even know if he swings that way. Huh, you don't even know if he swings that way! You've never asked him, and he's never asked you! Before you can begin to form some new coherent thoughts though, he hands you a plate of steaming hot Chicken Siam.

"Here, I'll eat the burrito. I know you don't like that."

"Thanks. Hey, mind if I ask you something... Personal?"

He raises a single eyebrow.

"Sure?"

"I was just wondering, and don't get this the wrong way, but... You ever think of... well... Men?"

"You're asking if I'm gay or straight?"

"Yeah."

"I call myself straight, but I've thought about it once or twice... Why? And how about you anyway? Fair's fair."

"Just dawned to me that I didn't know. And I'm bi. Doesn't really matter to me. I care less about gender, more about the person."

"Ha, that's enlightened. But really, we didn't know of each other... And how long've we been working together now? Five, six years?"

"Six. Last week."

"Heh, missed that tidbit."

"Yeah, you did. Not that we were planning on celebrating."

"Nope. But hey, we're good friends, good colleagues and a good team. Now let's see what the 3D mapper has about the area..."

He scoots over a bit closer to you, so you can see each other's screens a bit more clearly. The program's running fine, using the seismic detector set up in the camp together with the rumble of lava flowing through the mountain to slowly map out its path and other cave systems in the area.

"Well, that's running good. I say we just leave it to go overnight, and we say good night soon. Get a bit of extra energy to go tomorrow."

You can't help but hope that he's right about needing that extra energy. And that sets off a piece of mental laughter from your master.

Are you spying on me?

I am not spying on you, pet. Only keeping a little bit of watch over you. It has been quite a while since I have had the pleasure of seeing a man and his friend just talk. My existence has been... Lonely, these last years... But, that problem has been resolved, has it not? Little pet.

With that comment you can agree. At least he's not alone anymore. And with a bit of luck, it'll be more than just the two of you in a few days time.

But you and Morgan make some last minute adjustments to the camp, set up the mapping gear for a night running, and retire to your sleeping bags. As you settle into your bed, you can't help but notice a trace of a smell entering the room, and you realize that's how those pheromones your master talked about smell. The last thought you have before you fall asleep, is those eyes of your master, and how impossibly happy they looked yesterday, just after you changed.
