Nox is me

Story by me

"I-I -really- don't think this is working." Noxxy squeaked out, dangling from a set of teal fingers. Below him was the wide opening of a boot; a light scent wafted out from the thick shoe wear.     "Oh come on, you can't wuss out now, dork. It's only been four days! My program is guaranteed after eight weeks! If you're not satisfied by then, I'll give you your money back." Gale rolled his eyes, speaking dismissively.     "Okaay..." Nox huffed softly. "Could I go to the doctor? Or at least have some painkillers? My ribs haven't healed from yesterday." The bat groaned out. Gale lightly prodded at his bruised chest, and elicited a pained squeak of him. His fractured rib moved; bone ground against bone, sending blinding pain all throughout the poor bat.     "Hm. It's not broken, it's just a fracture. You'll be stronger in the end anyway! I guarantee it!" Gale grinned, adjusting his thick-rimmed glasses. Before Noxxy could retort, he was cautiously deposited into Gale's left boot. The teal 'lizard' peeked in, his snout half into the boot. He addressed the tiny bat who was laying in his back."Today we'll continue pressure resistance, but with a catch! You'll be under my heel this time, instead of my toes. If you survive this, you'll be much more resistant!"     "-If- I survive? Now, hold on one sec-" Nox began, but was soon interrupted by Gale, who produced a large sheet of paper. There was fine print all along, and at the very bottom, there was a tiny signature scribbled.     "Remember, I'm not responsible for any injury or death that may occur!" He cheerfully waved the contract, before folding it back up and sliding it into his pocket. Now that Nox was in position, and his questions were answered (or rather, silenced), Gale stood up and maneuvered a foot into each boot.     A nervous squeak came from the trapped bat. He was starting to regret this 'resistance training' that Gale had offered him. The previous days had brought various bruises, a fractured rib, and had wreaked havoc on his once pristine fur. Twelve hours a day, every day, was very intense. Nox inhaled reluctantly, allowing the stale and pungent air to penetrate

his lungs. "It's just twelve hours.." He murmured quietly. Up above him, the light was blotted out by the shape of a teal foot sliding into his 'training area'. Soon enough, crushing weight was settled onto his chest, once again jarring his fractured rib. The little bat gritted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut, as the weight steadily increased.     Gale ran his tongue over his lips, and chuckled quietly. He could feel Noxxy's labored breathing; the bat's tiny chest pushing up at his heel, with each forced breath. "I'm standing up now!" Gale called out, still grinning cheerfully. He slowly rose to his feet, and listened intently for any sounds coming from within his boot. Surely enough, once he was on his feet, a muffled series of dull pops and a wet crack, came, and was followed by the discernible sound of a screech. His heel had no doubt dislocated the bat's joints, and easily broken a rib.     Noxxy was in a world of pain. His arms, wings, and legs had all been dislocated; each bone popping out of it's socket. The pressure was worse than the previous days combined! Breathing was impossible now, since the heel belonging to his 'trainer' limited his lungs to containing a couple of gasps of air. This was also the only reason he was not screaming anymore; he had no air to do so.     Gale took his first step, and another series of loud crackles and snaps followed. He ignored the noises, and chose to continue walking. After all, he had vowed to help Noxxy, and couldn't stop now, not even if the bat required severe medical attention! With a faint grin on his face, Gale stepped outside into the warm weather, and began his daily routine.     ...     Gale slowly made his way up the steps to his house, forcefully stomping up along each concrete stair. Noxxy had stopped crackling and crunching long ago, coincidentally around the time that Gale felt something wet and sticky smear all along his heel. Now, each step simply felt a bit squishy, as bits of pulp squeezed out from the sides of his heel.     Gale unlocked the door, strolled in, and made his way to the kitchen. Only after he had served himself a glass of water and sat down in the living room couch, did he remove his boots. He stepped on the

back of his right boot, and slid his foot out of the tight confines. The cool air felt nice on his tired feet; he savored the feeling for a couple of seconds. Finally, once he was satisfied, he stepped on the back of his left boot, and slowly slid his foot out. He allowed it to settle on the floor, where had added an extra bit of pressure on his heel, and thoroughly ground it into place. Only then, did he prop his leg onto his lap, and examine his foot.     The teal flesh of his heel was caked with a mixture of blood, ground and burst organs, and various broken bones. Gale made a face, and dabbed the mess away with a small tissue.     "Well, I did my part! It's his fault for being so fragile." Gale murmured, bunching up the tissue and tossing it away. He yawned quietly and reached for his phone, opening up twitter.   "I have it on good authority @NoxxyBat has involuntarily taken a vow of silence."
