An hour later the moon had rose above the tree tops and lit up the area. Before long I my ears picked up on the sounds of something walking towards me. On the off chance that it wasn't Rebecca I decided to find a safe place to hide out. Peering out from my hiding place I learned that it was only a family of raccoons. After they finished drinking and washing they quietly left the area without a fuss.

Once I was positive they were gone I sat back down by the riverside and waited. Another twenty minutes ticked by and this time Rebecca's perfume filled the air. Though I heard more than just one pair of footsteps coming from directly behind me. "Hey Devin sorry I'm late but, a certain little someone didn't want to get off the couch." Rebecca said. Seeing as it was moot point now, hoping she would come to meet me alone.

Though I was oddly curious about what was attached to the other side of the leash. "Come over here Luna, seriously why must I drag you into going places with me." She whined. The very moment she uttered that phrase yet another oddly familiar scent filled the air. When a rather large female gray wolf stepped out into the open and sat down. She's roughly a quarter smaller than me especially when I travel on all four legs.

I curiously approached her earning a weary glare from her as I got closer. She growled softly telling me to watch myself as I carefully inspected her features. The second I saw the roman numerals for the number thirteen branded on her left hip. It was at that very instant I knew who this wolfess was and I couldn't control myself. "OH My Word Luna I Can't Believe It's You After All This Time." I smiled showing the mark also.

When she saw the Z on my right shoulder she recognized me almost instantly. Before I even had a chance to brace myself she tackled me right to the ground. "Zero, I'm so happy I never thought for a hundred years I'd ever see you again. I've searched high and low in the hopes of finding you again with almost little success." She informed. The entire time poor, Rebecca has no idea as to what's going on here and is left speechless.

After a few minutes of nuzzling I asked Luna to kindly get off of me please. When we both saw the dazed and utterly shocked look on poor Rebecca's face. Luna stood up on two legs then walked over to comfort her owner and I informed her. "Before you ask Rebecca both Luna and I are bio engineered werewolves created by accident. I was created by an unforeseen chemical explosion twelve years ago." I began.

"So the maiden voyage of my bio reconstructive tanks was to repair my injuries. Sadly when I came to I found myself completely overhauled inside as well as outside. In Luna's case the military recreated my accident though with someone more subdued. There was another created that could walk between our world and the human world. Speaking of that particular hot head have you heard from Tendra at all?" I finished curiously.

"Sadly, Zero she was killed during a shoot out about five and a half years ago. She was shot in the head by a stray bullet as she was transforming into her wolven form. Naturally the news media was just starting to have a field day before the military arrived. At that moment I decided to disappear in case a large hunt for us got underway. Not even three weeks after that I got picked up by rather sweet animal control officer." Luna informed.

She went onto tell me that she acted the part of a friendly dog and got adopted. I informed her that the robocells in her bloodstream would've neutralized the anesthetics. Should the shelter staff choose to put her down the most that she'd feel is drowsy. "Hold On, you mean to tell me my invention not only created you two. An actually flow through your veins to keep you two from ever growing sick." Rebecca remarked.

"Pretty much except for the obvious differences in our sexual anatomy. Though it would also stand to reason our life spans are far longer than a humans. Considering the fact that neither me nor Luna have aged a single day in the past twelve years." I replied. Rebecca simply couldn't believe everything and you couldn't blame her either. Taking a brief moment to track the moon position in the sky and calculated the time.

"I'd like to keep this conversation going but, it's getting awful late ladies. Some of the more dangerous predators will be getting ready to go out on the hunt. Allow me to escort you back to your car this way nothing decides to surprise us." I stated. With that I shifted myself back to walking on all fours then we quickly left the area. Luckily Rebecca's car was parked along one of the park tour routes by the pond.

After Rebecca unlocked the doors to her car she noticed Luna wasn't with her. She was standing about halfway between me and her lost deep her own thoughts. I shifted back up onto two legs then walked over to where Luna stood and watched. "Rebecca, I think it's time for me to be among my own kind don't you agree, Zero?" Luna asked. Granted I was caught off guard but, I told her that she should follow her heart.

Seeing as there was no shame remaining with Rebecca considering I trusted her. That didn't go over too well with Luna and she made sure that I knew it also. Considering she poked her claw hard into my chest when she confirmed her previous statement. "If this is what you want Luna than I accept it since you'll be in good hands. Devin I always had a feeling that your destiny would be something truly unique." Rebecca smiled.

"Sorry to keep pointing this out but, I'm sensing unwanted company nearby." I stated. With a few quick goodbyes Rebecca got back into her car then drove away. From there I escorted Luna back to my den by the shortest route possible to get there. Once inside I wasted little time making Luna a nice soft bed directly across from mine. Before I could get a nice campfire going Luna was already asleep on her new bed.

Instead of igniting the wood I crawled onto my bed curled up then fell asleep. Early the following morning as the sunlight warmly lit up most of my den waking me up. Taking a moment to stretch and yawn before I walked outside I looked at Luna. She looked so peaceful I didn't have the heart to wake her to go hunting with me. I decided to let her sleep while I went out to go retrieve breakfast for the two of us.

Figuring by the time I returned from my hunt she'd be awake or just waking up. Sadly as I went to leave she woke up then with a quick stretch she joined me. "Well, good morning beautiful, I'm loving the den fur by the way." I smiled richly. She was quick to groom herself before asking about what's on the menu for today's breakfast. Though telling her the truth that's she'd be learning to hunt for her food didn't end well.

"Please tell me that you're messing with my head Zero?" She asked as I walked away. Looking over my shoulder I shook my head no leaving the poor woman speechless. From there I brought her to the nearest hunting grounds where I began her lessons. Unfortunately it was much harder than I had originally thought but, I stayed confident. Despite how mad she was getting at me for not giving her a manual of some kind.

"Zero! Instead of just standing there like a lump how's about a live demonstration?" She growled. Naturally she called me a few nasty names so I gave her a useful tip then kept quiet. Utilizing the advice I provided her, she soon sense a rabbit foraging for food. Sadly Luna wasn't aware that the winds quickly changed to a southern direction. The rabbit picked up on the change in the wind then wisely bolted from the scene.

"Okay, how in the world did that little rodent know we were even here?" She wondered. I simply picked up a branch, held in the air then pointed out the change in the wind. Seeing as most of the morning was gone I decided to go gather our breakfast. While I tracked our meal Luna made notes as I skillfully took down a adult bison. Teaching her how to clean gut and fillet the meat properly which proved interesting.

For the next several week Luna continued with her training with rather limited success. When I tried a little reverse psychology it made things so much easier for her. With winter nearly upon us and knowing food would become scarce over time. I had to begin catching enough meat and berries that would have to last through the cold weather. "Earth to Zero are we training or are you just going to keep daydreaming?" She asked.

"Sorry, I was thinking about the winter and the extra stores of food we'll need. All of which I can do on my own but, you still need quite a bit of fine tuning I'm afraid." I pointed out. She admitted that she was doing the best she could but, it was proving tough. That's when a strong idea entered my mind like a huge bolt of lightning then smiled. "I've got a good idea that might be just the spark you need to be a great hunter." I began.

Of course she was curious as to just what in the world I was going on about. "Since there's about three weeks before autumn then about two months until winter. Starting first thing tomorrow morning you're mission is to hunt and track me down. You have two weeks to successfully pull this off before we need to gather food stores." I stated. Naturally she was all for it but, I had to agree to give her anything she wanted afterwards.

I saw no reason to decline so I agreed then walked back to our den for the night. She walked inside to get a nice fire going inside the fire pit while I fetched dinner. Looking up at the sky the sun had set halfway behind the mountains to the west. By now deer are usually out grazing by the meadows and the meat doesn't spoil easily. This way we'd have something solid for tomorrow morning when our game would commence.

During the night she slept soundly on her bed while I caught a few hours sleep. A couple of hours before sunrise I left the den then put plenty of ground between us. Hopefully she knew this was going to require every ounce of her skills to track me. I kept my fingers crossed that she'd come out on top and best me at my own game. She was special my heart and soul wouldn't let me overlook that little fact at all.

I hope that Luna doesn't give up or she might not last through the winter. There's one other thing I know for a fact she's not going to enjoy come the season. We'll be shedding into our winter coats soon and that's never a fun experience. Sadly it comes with the breed but, despite that I'm confident in her abilities. Considering most women would've given up by now and I was curious to see just special she truly was.

This may be the only way to know if my assumptions about her are indeed true. I took a moment to survey my location and learn I was roughly six miles from home. In my mind that wasn't nearly far enough since she can catch me down in no time at all. Taking a moment to think I decided to travel well outside the preserve's boundaries. There were mountains to not only the west but, the north also and were tougher to traverse.

Once I made up my mind I quickly covered my track but left very subtle clues. Either way I knew that she's going to do everything she can to prove me wrong. Considering that's what I'm hoping for, that's sorta why I've been pushing her so hard. For the next two days that pass I put triple the distance between myself and Luna. That night I found a nice spot to rest before continuing towards the northern mountains.

To be continued.
