Love At First Sight

An Atlantis High Story

Tenko zoomed through the hallways, knocking over anyone unfortunate enough to be in her way. She was late for English class again. Not a day went by that she wasn't in trouble with the teacher, Mr. Triton. She stopped by the restroom briefly to look in the mirror.

"Long day, Tenko need nap," the mermaid said, yawning. Tenko was all of 16 years old, her body just now beginning to blossom into delicate curves, her breasts a nice handful. Bright pink shoulder-length hair framed her cute face. skin having a slight tan to it. Her expressive eyes were a beautiful jade green, her nose small and cute, mouth perfectly shaped with kissable lips. She wore a lowcut green blouse and short skirt, pearl necklace around her neck. As she peeked out the restroom door, she saw a sight that made her cringe. It was Cindy Coralton and her sycophantic clique, all dressed in white dresses. Cindy was beautiful, blonde, rich and spoiled, as well as the most stuck up bitch at Atlantis High. She tried to swim around them, but it was too late.

"In a hurry, bubblebrain?"

Tenko pouted cutely. "Tenko no have bubbles in head."

Cindy snickered. "Oh you have NOTHING in your head, Tenko dear. I bet you don't even have a date for the school dance tonight."

The pretty mermaid blushed. "Tenko no find anyone yet! Also Tenko forgot about dance."

"Don't worry your little airhead about it. No one will date you, Tenko. You're a little weirdo. I think the pressure of living underwater has warped your tiny little brain. Come on, girls, let's ditch this loser."

"Cindy loser," Tenko muttered as the snotty clique swam off. "She a losing...loserpants."

Once more, the lovely mermaid was racing through the hallways, trying to get to her English class. Rounding a corner, she slammed head on into a boy, knocking him down.

"Oi, look where you're..." the boy said in a British accent. Then he looked up and saw Tenko and his heart melted. He heard the love theme from Romeo and Juliet in his head. Tenko felt her own heart flutter as she eyed the boy, who had tousled blonde hair. His face was very cute, blue eyes hiding behind round glasses, his frame lightly muscled, clad in a mesh half shirt anf black shorts. Tenko also heard the same music, though she could only identify it as 'ooh, pretty music.' Tenko like...Tenko WANT! she thought to herself. She set about gathering his things up, apologizing profusely. "Tenko so so sorry! She in big hurry, late for class!"

"Tis alright, accidents happen," replied the boy, smiling as he helped pick up Tenko's books.

"What's your name?"

The boy blushed, heart pounding. "Kazuke Finshawe. I'm a transfer from the North Sea, so I'm very new, barely know anyone yet. And I presume you are Tenko?"

Tenko nodded. "I Tenko, yes. Wow...that long way off. Brr...cold too."

"You get used to it. Anyway, I must dash, classes..."

"Can Tenko see you after class maybe?" the girl asked hopefully.

"We'll meet at lunch, Tenko, does that sound good?"

Tenko smiled. "Tenko will be there!" She swam off, tail swaying a bit seductively. She looked over her shoulder at the cute merboy. Kazuke watched her leave, already head over tailfin in love. He plotted to ask her to that dance he'd heard about...and possibly to be his girlfriend.

Finally, Tenko arrived at her class. She tried to sneak past Mr. Triton, but as usual failed miserably.

"MISS TENKO!"

She froze. "Y-yes sir?"

"So nice of you to join us," Mr. Triton said. "If you would be so kind as to take your seat..."

Tenko slunk over to her seat and hid behind a book as the class snickered. Her day started to catch up with her and soon the cute mermaid was fast asleep at her desk, dreaming of a night out with Kazuke.

Tenko and Kazuke were dancing close in a grand ballroom, the mermaid wearing a lovely white ball gown while Kazuke was in a top hat and formal tuxedo.

"You dance divinely, Tenko," murmured Kazuke as he held her close against him.

Tenko smiled at the compliment. "Kazuke wonderful dancer."

"Tis easy with a beautiful partner," the boy replied, dipkissing the pretty young mermaid, causing her to oooh and giggle. On the heels of that, he leaned in to sing softly into her pointed mermaid ear. "Heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak, when we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.." His voice was clear and perfectly pitched. Tenko cooed at Kazuke's lovely singing.

"Tenko love Kazuke with all her heart and soul," she murmured. "Kazuke promise he not leave Tenko ever."

"Never my dahling. I am yours forever. And...I want to ask you something, Tenko-chan."

Tenko tilted her head. "Yes, sweet Kazuke?"

"Will you marry me, Tenko?"

The girl squealed in delight. "Tes, yes, a million billion trillion zillion kajillion times YES!"

Tenko blinked awake to the sound of her classmates roaring with laughter. Apparently she yelled out her answer to Kazuke's proposal in her sleep. Mr. Triton, however, was not laughing.

"Three days detention and extra homework. Perhaps you will stay awake in class from now on, Miss Tenko."

Tenko slumped, twiddling her webbed fingers. "Y-yes sir."

At her lunch table, Tenko sighed and laid her head on the table while waiting for Kazuke. She'd been trudging through the extra homework, figuring she'd take another nap during detention. It wasn't long before Kazuke showed up. "Ello."

"H-hi Kazuke!" Tenko exclaimed, happy to see the cute merboy again. She prayed to Poseidon that he'd ask her to the dance...maybe be her boyfriend too.

Kazuke regarded her with concern. "Long day, Tenko? You look tired."

Tenko sighed. "Tenko no like English work. Give Tenko headaches. But it done now."

Kazuke reached over to rub Tenko's temples to ease her suffering. "Poor mermaid," he murmured. Tenko let out a happy sigh at the attention from Kazuke, closing her eyes. "Mmm...tell Tenko about Kazuke's life."

"Well...as I said, I'm from the North Sea, where it's much colder than it is here in Atlantis, though I don't mind the warmth at all. And...I'm an orphan. My parents were aquanauts and were killed by a monster on one of their expeditions." The boy looked sad. "Not a day goes by that I don't miss them."

Tenko squeezed Kazuke's hand. "Aww...that terrible. But how Kazuke get to Atlantis?"

"Well. after the death of my parents, I was sent to my uncle, who made me give up schooling to work in his factory. I left and took a subliner to Atlantis, alone in the undersea world until I met you, and I thank Poseidon for that."

Tenko looked into Kazuke's eyes. "How does Kazuke get on all alone?" she wondered.

Kazuke sighed. "Not easily, Tenko. But enough about me. What of your life story?"

Tenko squeezed Kazuke's hand again. "Tenko also orphan. She never knew parents. Tenko left at orphanage, raised there. Left at 13. Tenko be alone too."

Kazuke's eyes went wide as saucers. "Oh Tenko, we're two lost souls who have found each other!"

"Like attracts like, Tenko has heard! Anyway, Kazuke heard about school dance tonight?"

The merboy took a deep breath. "I have, yes. I...I was going to ask if you might go with me."

The mermaid's heart soared. "Yes! Tenko will go with you!" She wanted to yell her answer but learned her lesson in class. Kazuke kissed Tenko's hand.

"I shall pick you up at seven then," he said softly. "And now I must take my leave for class. Farewell till then, lovely Tenko." He blew her a bubbly kiss as he swam off. Tenko let out a happy sigh, watching Kazuke leave. "I show you, mean Cindy Coralton. Now Tenko have cute boy date for the dance. This gonna be awesome!"

Tenko snoozed in detention and fell into another dream. This time she was a lovely princess and Kazuke was a brave aquaknight...

Princess Tenko was swimming near some rocks. Her father hadn't wanted her to go near this area, but the young princess was rebellious and stubborn. She defied her father's wishes and snuck out to explore, bored with castle life.

"I don't see what the big deal is," she said as she poked about. "Nothing out here at all. Even more dull than the royal castle!" For some odd reason, she spoke perfectly in the dream. There was a rumbling behind her, and very soon Tenko found herself in the grip of a terrible sea dragon!

The lovely mermaid screamed as she was caught, facing the dragon's fearsome maw, lined with razor sharp teeth. "Mermaid is my favorite snack," growled the dragon.

An armored merboy approached, wearing a gleaming silver helmet and chestplate, wielding a mighty blade. "Put her down, foul beast!" he shouted commandingly. Tenko oohed, liking the look of this handsome aquaknight, who was of course Kazuke.

The dragon snarled. "Make me, silly merboy." Kazuke charged him, slashing with his sword. The dragon let out a yelp and dropped Tenko, who fell right into her aquaknight's arms. The dragon panicked and swam off, growling, "This isn't over!" Tenko threw her arms around Kazuke's neck and kissed him. "Oh my brave hero!" She woke up just in time to leave for home, catching the aquabus.

At home, a naked Tenko stood in front of the mirror, trying on various dresses. She finally settled on a low cut black evening dress and her fanciest shell necklace. She checked her lipstick and makeup carefully. She wanted to be absolutely stunning for Kazuke tonight. She smiled. admiring herself. "MIrror, mirror, on the wall, who the HOTTEST one of all? Me, that who!" She giggled and kissed the mirror on her way out to wait for her suitor.

It wasn't long before a carriage showed up, drawn by several white seahorses. Inside was Kazuke, dressed in tux and top hat/

"Your chariot awaits, milady," he said bowing. Just being near Tenko gave the shy, nervous merboy more confidence.

Tenko cooed. "Thank you. my aquaknight." She climbed into the carriage, settling near the merboy. Kazuke didn't understand the aquaknight term, but he liked the sound of it. He pinned a corsage onto her dress and slipped an arm around her to cuddle during the ride. Tenko didn't resist at all, if he hadn't initiated, she would have.

The carriage arrived at the school. Kazuke escorted Tenko inside, a confident smile on his face. The young couple did get a few looks as they entered the gym where the dance was being held, several merfolk whispering "He's with HER?'

Kazuke looked at Tenko. "Shall we then?" The girl nodded and the couple headed for the dance floor, dancing close. Kazuke was just about as good as he was in Tenko's dream, much to the pretty mermaid's delight. Tenko's heart was pounding with excitement, it seemed as though her dream was coming true.

"You dance divinely, Tenko," Kazuke whispered in her pointed ear.

Tenko blushed. "Mmmf...Kazuke better than Tenko," she murmured.

The merboy dipkissed Tenko, eliciting a happy squeal from her. "Don't sell yourself short, Tenko," he said encouragingly. After that, he leaned in and sang to Tenko softly, the same song as in her dream, with the same lovely voice. Tenko's mind was blown. "Ohhh Kazuke," she murmured. "You sing pretty. Tenko like that."

Kazuke smiled. "Thank you, Tenko. I heard this song in an old movie I swa. I'll have to make sure to serenade you more in the future?"

Tenko nodded. "Yes, please. Tenko love Kazuke's singing." She paused a moment and looked into his eyes. "Ummm, Kazuke, Tenko want tell you thing. She feel we soulmates. We made for each other. It destiny that bring us together. We two of a kind. Tenko feel this deep in heart and soul. Kazuke feel this too?"

The merboy smiled. "I do, Tenko. I did say we were two lost souls who found each other. And on that note, Tenko...well this is a bit direct and maybe sudden, but I love you. I want to be your boyfriend." He blushed deeply.

Tenko paused a moment, then responded by giving Kazuke deep kiss, her tongue curling with his. "Yes. Tenko your girl, sweet Kazuke." Indeed, her dreams were coming true. "Tenko love Kazuke forever, never ever leave sweet merboy."

Kazuke held Tenko close. "I'd die before I'd leave you, Tenko-chan," he said. Being called that made the girl all tingly inside. The two continued dancing and wiispering, blissfully unaware that from the refreshment table, Cindy Coralton was watching wit a scowl, next to her own boy, Johnny Reefington, a well built jock, captain of the Tridents, Atlantis High's aquaball team.

"So, that little airhead did land a boy after all," she hissed. "I think it's time this set was broken up."

"Cindy, you're supposed to be dancing with me," Johnny said. Cindy elbowed him. "Shut up and have some punch." She swam over towards Kazuke and Tenko, pushing Tenko aside and grabbing Kazuke, dancing away. Tenko's volcanic temper activated, fire in her jade green eyes.

"Kazuke mine. Mine mine MINE!" she shouted, swimming off after Cindy fiercely. Meanwhile poor Kazuke struggled against Cindy's embrace. "Please Cindy, if you don't mind, I want to dance with Tenko."

Cindy snorted. "Bah, what do you see in that silly little mermaid? You need a REAL woman, Kazuke. Like ME." She really didn't have any feelings for the merboy, she was just stealing him to spite Tenko. She felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned and got a tailfin kick to the face, courtesy of Tenko, causing her to fly backwards. Kazuke took this opportunity to escape. Tenko wasn't done yet. She went after Cindy with an angry look, fists and tail flaining as she pounded on the rich girl.

"My daddy will sue you, you little bitch!" screamed Cindy.

"Tenko no care. She clock Cindy good for stealing her Kazuke. He MINE!"

By now the whole room was watching. Kazuke just stared in awe at his new girlfriend. I must remember not to get on her bad side, he thought. Soon, the fight was broken up. Cindy definitely got the worst of it. Unfortunately both Tenko and Kazuke were escorted out of the dance and Tenko received a week's detention. She sighed and leaned on her boyfriend.

"Tenko so so sorry. She screw up bigtime."

Kazuke kissed Tenko's cheek. "It's ok, Tenko-chan. You couldn't help yourself. That Cindy can make anyone lose it."

The mermaid beauty blushed at the cheek kiss. "Hey Kazuke, you know about Makeout Rift, huh?"

Kazuke raised an eyebrow. "No, I do not. But i think it bears investigating. We should go there and do a lot of...investigating." He smiled and hugged Tenko tight.

Tenko snickered. "Tenko know exactly what Kazuke want investigate." She hugged him back and the two swam off to their romantic rendezvous. And that, dear reader, is where our story ends.
