#3 of Of Might and Magic

A rather short chapter, just to keep the story going for now, I'll get back into writing it in full when I return to my college next week!

Cuervus sat in the mage's council, a room he had been sent to when Kota and Drova's had escorted him to the large building, the three planning to set out together once his meeting was complete. The room belonged to a man known as the "Mad Mage" who upon hearing about the devastation Curevus had brought upon the bandit fort, had requested a private meeting with him.

"Eh hua hua..." an old man laughed... or perhaps coughed as he walked into the room... "So you're the man responsible for that spectacular patch of ice! Huahuahuahua! Magnificnt work my boy, they asked me to thaw it out for them but I said no... such a majestic work of magic should be treated with respect not tampered with! thanks to you, that whole place will be encased in ice forever... give or take a few years." as the man spoke, Cuervus could understand why they called him the Mad Mage, he was clearly insane.

"Yes... so... might I ask... why am I here?"

"Hmmm? well... I suppose that's a question we all ask from time to time! The easiest answer is that your parents managed to birth you and keep you alive... though I sense the loneliness of an orphan on you... So I imagine you kept yourself alive... in the grand scheme none of us really know WHY we're here... or if therre is even a reaso- Oh... wait... you meant here as in... this room, not life in general... right right... YOU could try being more logical when you ask questions my boy..." the man spoke with his own logic... a brand of logic which most people couldn't understand, but which he expected them to. "Well you're here because I was impressed, also because I'm the only other known sorcerer still alive today... so it's my job to explain to you your many many MANY talents... some of which are so magnificently pointless, that you just want to reach out and punch Irradia in the face..."

"Um... and who exactly is that?" Cuevus asked.

"Irradia? Really? What kind of ignorant hill village are you from boy?! Irradia.. Varacida... Melotara? none of those names mean anything to you do they? hup... let me quess though... you know who Luciente is corect?"

"Yes, Luciente is the name of god..."

"It's the name of A god kid... goddess actually... she controls all the light in the world... most people worship her... Irradia is goddess of magic, Varacida is goddess of darkness, and Melotara is goddess of the twilight... they all work together, but Irradia... she made our kind first.... we were made in a strange way... see... everyone has a mind, and a soul... most people's minds and sould are indistinguishable from each other, it's like making two lines in the exact same spot on a page, there are two lines, but you only SEE one... Sorcerers on the other hand, our mind's and souls cross each other, like an 'X' was drawn on the page... this is both good and bad... you see... everyone else has to understand a spell in their mind in order to use it... whereas we can simply DO... if we see a spell our soul can let us use it... it's dangerous to say the least... drives us mad... as I'm sure you've noticed...."

"Can it... be fixed?"

"It's not broken... just how it has to be... A frost dragon cannot breath fire, but is not meant to, therefore it could not be 'fixed' in order to burn things... just remember, don't THINK, in order to use your magic you must FEEL, emotion will be your key... I see you have a staff... my colleagues enhanced it for you when you left it downstairs, it wouldn't have worked for you before... we'll also be giving you a set of enchanted robes to take... I'm going to guess they should be aligned with frost magic... any color you would prefer?"

"Black..."

"Of course... I'm not surprised... Well then... here you are... Get out now... Go see some things... Maybe do some things as well" Cuervus gathered his belongings, and after being given his new gear, set off with his two new companions to begin a new adventure.
