Rekuiem's Oddest Christmas Party

Here's a story I wrote for my friend Rekuiem, I owe him this because he's a great friend, It took me a while to write and is nearly 3000 words but it was so worth it. If there are spelling mistakes, forgive me, I revised as best I could, if you could please point out the mistake.

Rekuiem sighed, he was walking back to a rather small mountain, though people for some reason did not travel to it much, meaning it was the perfect place for Rekuiem to live in as it was quiet and mostly pollution free. When he entered his cave Rekuiem let out a sigh of boredom, the day at the Colosseum had been rather uneventful and it was the 24th of December. Rekuiem went and did whatever it is he did before he went to bed. On christmas day Rekuiem woke up around 7am, deciding to cook a fresh breakfast before going to the Colosseum once again. Rekuiem went to go clean up a bit as he left his breakfast cooking and sighed in content as the aroma of eggs and bacon filled the air. Upon his arrival Rekuiem thought nothing much would be going on so he walked over to a wall and leaned on it for the time being. Rekuiem watched some fights and chases go on because of chocolate. The current holder of said chocolate being Aiden, a blue furred otter with glowing green eyes who just so happened to be a mutual friend. He simply sighed and started conversing with another about how dumb that seemed. "It's just chocolate... why would you harm anyone over chocolate?" The one Rekuiem happened to be conversing with nodded "It makes no sense." The conversation continued for a while, until Aiden finally agreed to share the chocolate with the five dragons who were chasing him. Once the dragons were distracted Aiden went along and butted into Rekuiem's conversation, feeling like he should correct them. "Yeah, they couldn't hurt me if they tried. I'll have you know that. You should also know that that was just something to keep a certain individual busy." At that Aiden shot a quick glance at Rekuiem before continuing. "Besides, I don't need you guys worrying over me." After Aiden and the other unnamed individual left Rekuiem started to think to himself. 'Well, Aiden did tell me that today was going to be eventful, but I doubt that chase was it because he just told me it was a plan to fool someone, then he looked at me. On top of that Darius seems to have dissapeared... What could he be up to?' The wolf sighed and shook the thoughts out of his head and looked around, the Colosseum had pretty much gone to bustling with activity to dead silent within the time span of about three minutes. Rekuiem sighed and waited for some sort of action, any sort of action. Nothing happened at all for thirty minutes straight so Rekuiem decided to head home and take a nap in a place where Darius couldn't pour water on his head. After half an hour of walking while Rekuiem was halfway home he got another idea and started walking east, towards the mountains Darius lived in. Rekuiem was really determined to find out what his friend was doing.

Darius stood in one of the lowest chambers in the whole mountain, sweating profusely because there was magma no less than 500 feet below the floor he was standing on. Darius mixed various fluids that had different properties. He took a needle and extracted some of his blood before adding 5ml of his blood to a clear, thick liquid. Darius thought over his project for a moment before realising that he needed some of Rekuiem's fur and some of his blood. Darius started to run upstairs to find Rekuiem. Darius ran out of the cave without realizing Rekuiem was standing at the opening, resulting in Darius tackling Rekuiem to the ground. Both Darius and Rekuiem tumbled down the sloped path for a bit before coming to a stop in a cloud of dust. Rekuiem lay on the ground, dazed for a moment, however Darius scrambled to his feet and started to run for the edge of the path. Rekuiem sat up and turned to see Darius running from him so he called out to Darius "Darius, wait!" The sudden sound of Rekuiem's voice surprised Darius. This was proven by the fact that he stumbled right as he was about to jump off the edge of the path and fly to the Colosseum. Darius tried to stop himself but only succeeded in falling off the edge of the cliff. Rekuiem called out to his friend "I got you Darius!" Reacting quickly Rekuiem grabbed the handle of his sword, causing the gem in the sword to glow. Suddenly Rekuiem's shadow raced out and caught Darius' ankle and dragged him back onto the path. Darius sighed in relief as he watched the clouds pass by in the sky. "You know... I still had my wings... But thanks for the help anyways, from experience I know that fall hurts a lot after you wake up." Darius sat up and looked over to Rekuiem "Wait... if you're all the way over there... how did you save me?" Rekuiem let go of his sword to scratch at the back of his head as his shadow let go of Darius' ankle and receded to become a normal shadow. After a few moments of silence Rekuiem spoke "I have control over shadows when I'm holding onto my sword." Darius was staring at Rekuiem's shadow before nodding "makes sense... Hey, since I was looking for you can I ask you a question? I need some more of your fur and some blood." Rekuiem just looked at Darius with a look of curiosity "Really? Dude, I'm half dragon now, not that I'm angry at you but what could you possibly need all of that for?" Darius stared Rekuiem down for a solid minute, not letting any emotion show. On the inside Darius was a bit panicked before he came up with the perfect answer to Rekuiem's question. "I need it for my alchemy stuff." Rekuiem sighed "I may regret this but fine, and again no clones, absolutely none." Darius nodded before pulling out a needle "Don't move, I got this." Darius took a hold of Rekuiem's arms and jabbed him twenty or so times, missing the vein each time before finally hitting his mark and drawing some blood. Rekuiem was about ready to punch Darius as he was sure the dragon "missed" on purpose. Darius then took out a small razor and cut some fur off of Rekuiem's cheek before storing it away. Darius nodded "Well, I've got some work to do in the lab, why don't you come in and make yourself comfortable?" Rekuiem thought it over, on one side he was pretty sure he would not have anything to do, though on the other side he could learn ore about alchemy from Darius. Rekuiem nodded "Alright, lets get this done with." Darius smiled before getting up off the floor and brushing some dirt off himself. Rekuiem did the same before following Darius into a maze of tunnels.

The air in the tunnels eventually got hotter and thicker as they went deeper into the mountain, eventually getting so hot Rekuiem's fur was matted down with sweat. Rekuiem himself was breathing rather heavily, so heavy that Darius noticed. Darius, being the ice dragon he is, lowered the temperature around them a fair amount to which Rekuiem simply muttered out a quiet "Thanks."

Once they reached the lowest point in the mountain Darius walked through a maze of halls, explaining the purpose of going so deep into the mountain. "Well, the thing is these are the alchemy rooms, the reasons as to having them so far down are actually well thought out, One of them being that Alchemy is dangerous and could hurt others if done in a busy pathway. For example if one of your concoctions exploded right next to a busy path you could harm who knows how much people, but down here it's mostly safe." Rekuiem nodded and continued listening, seeing the logic in that. "Some other reasons include the fact that it saves space and the fact that some things require a certain temperature before being finished." Rekuiem nodded and tried to remember as much information as possible as he was rather interested in alchemy as well. Rekuiem got so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice that Darius had stopped until he walked into him. "Whoops, sorry." Darius just shrugged before opening the door and entering. What was inside didn't suprise Rekuiem, the alchemy lab looked like your generic stereotypical science lab with a few twists, one of the aforementioned twists being a large cauldron of magma. Darius sighed and thought things over before turning to Rekuiem "I'm sorry but it turns out you need to leave, what i'll be doing will create toxic fumes and you could get hurt." Rekuiem thought things over, trying to look for an excuse for him to stay and watch "But won't you be hurt?" Darius simply shook his head " My respiratory system is different from yours, it won't harm me." Rekuiem thought for a moment, eager to win this argument "But aren't I part dragon? Shouldn't I be mostly fine?" Darius nodded "The keyword, though is mostly You'll still be affected, and if II know my math then you'd die either way." Rekuiem sighed, deciding to give up, it wasnt worth it arguing over something so trivial, besides he could get other chances at alchemy later, right? Darius gestured over to the door "There's some parties and stuff happening upstairs, go have some fun man!" Rekuiem just looked to the door, rather nervous before agreeing "Okay then... I guess I'll see you up there soon, right?" Darius nodded "probably", he then turned and started to arrange some things while Rekuiem started the long trek back up to the main part of the mountain. Sweat started matting Rekuiem's fur down as he walked up the many stairs "Ugh, why could you not just have an elevator?" Rekuiem then facepalmed "That's right, this is a mountain, there's no electricity..." Rekuiem would later be proven wrong. Darius, on the other hand snickered as he heard Rekuiem's rambles as they echoed down through the tunnels.

Eventually, after about ten minutes of wandering and being impressed, yet annoyed by the complexity of the tunnels Rekuiem arrived to see a christmas party going on. Rekuiem felt awkward being the only wolf there and the awkwardness only intensified when Alderain, Darius' father pointed him out "Hey! Wolf, what is your name and why are you here!?" Rekuiem gulped, feeling the intense glares of most of the room "Umm, I'm Darius' friend, Rekuiem. Darius is doing something important right now so he told me to go do whatever..... so I ended up here." Rekuiem inwardly cringed at that last part as it was not needed at all. Alderain, simply chuckled "Ahh! Rekuiem! Darius has told me about you, come and celebrate with us! We won't bite, well we probably won't." Rekuiem chuckled nervously before walking forward and grabbing a plate, deciding to get a small helping of turkey and some ham. Rekuiem turned and got out of everyone's way before looking for a place to eat when he saw a group of people he recognized, it was Aiden, Zexal, Shuigetsu and the two other dragons Rekuiem saw in the Colosseum the day before. He walked over and waved, sitting with them, idly listening to their chat. "...so there I was, facing this huge creature, sword drawn when..." Rekuiem started tuning them out so he could think some more 'what to do... what to do..." Rekuiem looked around and noticed the lights 'So they do have electricity... a bit odd.' Rekuiem continued on with his mental ramblings until one of the dragons spoke up "Hey! Who is this scrub!?" Rekuiem ground his teeth a little at the nickname while Shuigetsu spoke "He's one of Darius' friends, If I remember correctly he's rather strong." Rekuiem sighed, he didn't want to get in a fight for no reason but it seemed inevitable, he confirmed this by looking over to Aiden, who simply nodded. Darius' oldest brother continued with his insults "Strong!? This guy looks like he would lose to Darius! How could he be seen as strong!?" Rekuiem growled lowly, causing the dragon to turn his head towards him ""Hey, pipsqueak, let's fight, right now." Rekuiem suppress his urge to kill, for now, and simply nodded. Darius' older brother got up and walked over to his dad, they had a short conversation before Alderain went and got the whole dance floor cleared for the fight. Darius' older brother stood on one side of the floor and smirked, being as cocky as usual, Rekuiem took his place on the other side of the dance floor. Darius' brother spoke up first "I guess you should know my name, after all it's nice to know the name of one who's about to beat your senses out of you. The name's Darrell." Rekuiem ignored the arrogant prick as he listened to the rules "The rules are... No fatal wounds and nothing too destructive. Now... Start!" And a few seconds after that was muttered the match was over, how you may ask, well keep reading this and you'll find out. Anyways after Alderain said start Rekuiem thought up a plan, it was the perfect plan to win and get revenge on Darell for calling him weak and whatnot, besides it'd make him look badass. Rekuiem grabbed his sword, but didn't draw it as he waited for his shadow to get a firm hold on Darell, only a fre spectators noticed this. Next Rekuiem dissapeared and there was a splatter, followed by a shocked gasp, a cough of pain and Rekuiem's next words. "Rekuiem... that's my name." Darrell coughed out some blood before slumping forwards, unconscious due to blood loss. Rekuiem propped the dragon's body up as he removed his sword from Darrell's shoulder and flicked the blood onto the ground. Rekuiem sheathed his sword and walked away as some medics went and healed Darrel's shoulder.

Rekuiem leaned against the wall, bored. 'I thought this was a party...' The reason of Rekuiem's boredom was that no one would talk to him, just gossip about him in hushed whispers he could easily hear. Rekuiem sighed and decided to go to the dance floor because why not? As if that wasn't totally out of character for Rekuiem. On his way there Rekuiem bumped into Alderain "Oh, sorry about that." Alderain pretty much shouted with a booming voice "Nonsense! Hey, Rekuiem, come have a drink with me. Rekuiem wanted to answer but he was pretty much dragged to the table Alderain sat at with his friends "This here, is my son Darius' friend, Rekuiem, the one who beat Darrell in a matter of seconds." Everyone at the table appeared shocked, before they cheered and clapped. Once the noise settled down Alderain spoke again "Thank you Rekuiem, that arrogant bastard needed to be taken down a notch." Rekuiem looked at Alderain, a bit confused but before he could speak Alderain did "What? I don't care if he's my son, it's true!" Rekuiem just burst out laughing, recovering after a short while. "Oh man, you're something Alderain... just like Darius." Everyone at the table chuckled at that. Then the drinks were served, Rekuiem didn't recognize it and, seeing his worry Alderain simply said "It's just a type of alcohol." Rekuiem seemed nervous but raised his glass anyways for the toast as Alderain spoke out "This toast is to Rekuiem! The one who beat my strongest son in seconds!" Everyone cheered to that before taking a big drink of their drink. Rekuiem was the last one to drink some, but as the celebratory drink got to his stomach it seemed to get absorbed straight into his bloodstream. Rekuiem's vision started to blur and all of his senses were numbed, he couldn't remember much more than that as the feeling started to get stronger. Rekuiem remembered bits and pieces of that night, he remembered winning a drinking contest, dancing, being pulled aside by someone, being given a necklace and dancing some more. Everything between those memories and waking up was a blur.

Rekuiem woke up on the cold, hard stone of the floor in the mountain, all around him was other dragons that had passed out as well. Rekuiem winced at the dull ache that seemed to be one with his body. Rekuiem sat up and realized he was wearing a necklace Rekuiem looked on the back and there was a note on it from Darius

"Hey, Rekuiem, you were the star of the party last night! Of course, what happened is a story for later :) In case you're wondering what this does just smear your blood over the emerald in the center and find out.

~Darius"

Rekuiem sighed before slowly getting his bearings, standing up and shakily getting his bearings, realizing that his legs were barely supporting him Rekuiem got an idea. Once he was free of the confined area of the cave he took out his favourite item, the selection crystal, and floated home, smiling and wondering what he had done at the party...

Later in the day, after Rekuiem had gotten himself cleaned up he went and bit his thumb, easily drawing blood. He smeared it across the gem on the necklace and felt tingly all over as he felt himself change back to a wolf. To confirm his suspicions Rekuiem looked into a nearby pool of water and found that he had indeed turned back to normal! Rekuiem decided to try and change back, so he smeared another droplet of blood on the gem, which had seemingly absorbed the blood from a few seconds ago, and he felt the same sensation followed by a slight burn in all the places that were changed when he first changed into a hybrid. Looking back into the pool of water nearby he saw he had changed back into a hybrid. Smiling, Rekuiem whispered a small "Thanks" to the wind, thanking his friend for such an awesome gift.
