There was a still in the air, like that of a calm just before the raging storm that threatened the horizons. A gentle caress from the wind upon Jillian's fur sent a shiver up her spine that felt all too familiar. "Sami?" she called, stopping for quick look around her and finding nothing, nothing but the few wolves in whose company she shared. "Must be my imagination." she utters, shaking off the feeling and falling in line behind the wolf in front of her. The street was devoid of all life, save for the bits of litter and dust being tossed about the breeze. Stone suddenly emerged from the darkness like a rogue shadow, his face as grim looking as ever. Honestly it scared the shit out of Jillian. She had been with him and seen about as many facial emotions from him as she would a rock. "I've already scouted ahead and found nothing. What about you guys?" he said. "Nothing much, sir." the commanding wolf answered back. "Nothing but ghosts and broken lives." "Where's Rai?" Jillian interrupted, noticing the lack of company with Stone. "She scouting on further ahead?" Stone lowered his head, if he told the truth now things would only get complicated and right now he needed every soldier for he didn't know what to expect further inside of Neon City. "She's gone." he sighed, "Killed In Action." "But how?" Jillian urged, "She was one of your best soldiers." "She died protecting me." he lied. Jillian pondered the thought. 'Given her combat skills and heightened reflexes then how is that possible.' Stone noticed the concerned expression on Jillian's face. "There's no time to grieve. We have to push on and finish rescuing the city." "We already cleared half the city, with so little contact, is it possible that we're already too late?" Jillian asked, changing the subject to one that she could focus more on. "It could be a possibility but it's not one I would like to stop and think about right now." said Stone, "We need to continue moving on. You." the wolf spoke, pointing to the soldier in the lead, "You have point. Move out."

They were roughly two blocks down further when Stone stopped the line, his ears standing up on his head as he listened to the wind. "Into that building on the right." he commanded. Once inside he took cover behind a wall and waited. A deep rumbling began to get near, shaking the very ground as it did. "A Goliath is heading this way." Jillian readied her rifle and got ready. Soon the Goliath was within visual range, a little more and he would be within the lethal range of the squads rifles. "When I fire the first shot you guys hit him with everything you've got. It should be an easy kill if things go accordingly." Stone said, switching his rifle from semi auto to full bore. The goliath came to stop just in front of the building. Stone was on edge but kept his cool. It wouldn't be the first time he engaged a Goliath. Jillian on the other hand, she had seen what horrors a Goliath could do to a squad of soldiers who weren't trained for the encounter. "On three." whispered Stone. "One.......two..." The air filled with smoke and debris as the Goliath roared from the rocket strike above. The building the wolves were in crumbled from the shock wave and threw their plans into disarray. Jillian was thrown from her cover and sent flying through the wall behind her, her vision fading in and out as she tried to regain consciousness. She could see Stone firing from his position at an unknown enemy, all while issuing orders to those still standing, his words falling on Jillian's deaf ears. "What...what happened?" Jillian utters, still trying to get a grasp on the situation. Stone's voice finally rang free, "Pick her up and fall back." he ordered to the soldier standing beside Jillian, "The rest of us will hold them off and fall back." Before Jillian could question further she was pulled away from the battle, her vision fading as Stone continued the fight.

Jillian snapped awake, frantically gazing about her surroundings, before she calmed down. There was no battle, no noise, only the sound of her breathing as she tried to move. Her muscles ached at first but shown no sign or pain of a wound. "Thank the elder wolves." she joked. The room was barren, save for the empty boxes that hinted at the sign of a possible storage room, somewhere far from the battle. A glance to her left revealed a dead soldier lying on his side, two visible wounds around the area where his heart would be. Jillian would never know this wolf but was thankful he risked his own life for her. "You deserved better." she sighed before turning her attention to the door. The sun light shone through the crack in the door as she neared it, doubling back to retrieve the fallen wolf's rifle before she continued. Outside it was bright and judging by the sun it was near midday.

A nearby gas station was the local hotspot, mostly because it had been ransacked of any and all goodies it once offered. Stepping through the broken glass doors Jillian avoided making too much noise, not knowing if anyone or anything was in the near vicinity. "Talk about your going out of business sales" she mumbled as she scoured the aisles for something to snack on. Somehow during the skirmish from before she lost her pack and was now without the essentials. Brushing past the junk food aisles she walked towards the back and continued her search. The glass displays were just as rough looking as the rest of the store, their shelves also barren. In the store room, behind the drink displays, Jillian continued her search. Whatever was there before was now long gone. Despaired and frustrated Jillian kicked a box, spilling its contents on the floor. To her amazement she found something worthwhile, childish but worth it. There scattered on the floor lay children's juices. "Beats the shit out of nothing." the wolfess joked, picking up one and quenching her thirst. Once sated she exited the building, stopping to listen to the gun fire in the distance, before continuing towards it.

A few miles down the road she came upon a familiar sight, the blown out coffee shop. It reminded her of where she had first met Stone and Tiffani. She could see herself walking towards the building and going inside. "To think that was only a little while ago. I'm surprised that it's still standing." she laughed shortly before going silent from the presence of a weapon pointed at the back of her head. "Drop your weapon, wolf. Slowly and no sudden moves or my friend here will start talking business." the voice commanded. "You do know there's a war going on, right?" the wolfess uttered out. "What do you mean?" the voice added, "Haven't you heard?" "Heard about what?" Jillian asked, tilting her head in confusion. "Neon City is now under martial law. As declared by General Swift until the last of the aliens have been destroyed." Now Jillian was really confused. "Did I miss something?" "Everything." the voice sarcastically said before Jillian's world faded to darkness once more.

"Are you all right?" a female voice spoke as Jillian was shaken from her untimely slumber. Jillian opened her eyes and focused her vision to the furson in front of her, instantly recognizing the vixen as Tiffani. "Where the hell am I?" the wolfess muttered as she rubbed the bump on the back of her head. "Jillian, right?" a joyful Tiffani replied. "For a few hours there I thought you were knocked into a vegetable" she laughed. "I'm beginning to feel like one. Considering I had some juice earlier. As much as I've been knocked about the noggin I'm surprised I'm not a full blown derpette." replied an unhappy Jillian. "So where am I this time?" "I was brought here a few hours before your arrival, but I think we're at an interment camp." "Internment camp? For what reasons?" "Well..." Tiffani trailed off for a moment. "I'm not too sure our exact location but I do know that many 'wolf loving' foxen are placed here for treason." Jillian looked around as she stood up, noting the lack of wolven company among the general populace. "Why am I the only wolf here?" Tiffani stood silent, knowing full well what happens to wolven POWs. "I've only seen like three wolves so far, each one leaving and never coming back." "Sounds like it's a bad thing to be a wolf, by the look of things." Tiffani nodded. "It sure is. I've noticed that many of the wolves were a military of unknown origin. Are they with Stone's forces?" "Yeah. Stone was able to find some help but not from the wolven government. The fuckers locked us up the moment after we visited the council." huffed Jillian. "Then we were rescued by a wolfess claiming to be Stone's daughter." "Daughter?" stood the perplexed vixen, "How so?" "It's a long, fucked up story. You wouldn't believe me even if I told you. So let's just leave it at that." "Then what happened?" the vixen asked, tail swishing about the air behind her. "Well we were taken to hangar outside the Den. There we found help from another source, namely the descendants of Stone's old forces. Then we finally came back to Neon. The beach wasn't as welcoming as I remember it. It was a struggle but we overcame and pushed as far as Midtown." "Where is Stone now?" "I don't know" Jillian confessed. "We got separated during a conflict and now I'm here." "Oh" Tiffani despaired. "So you don't know if he's dead or alive?" "I doubt he'd come this far to just die for no reason. I mean you're the world to that wolf. I'm sure he'll find us, I just don't know when. So what's this business about martial law being declared here in Neon?" asked Jillian. "General Swift has taken control and systematically stopped the alien threat. Many lives were lost, mostly wolven and those that were left were 'relieved of duty'." "I'm not following you." Tiffani looked at Jillian with a "Are you for real?" look on her face. "It means bad news for Stone, and for you if we don't get you out of here." she said. "If Swift learns that you are here he will have you executed a short time after." "Okay, okay. I was just messing with you. So what are we going to do?" Jillian spoke as she looked around the area they were in. Which was a large, fenced off, lightly guarded perimeter that stood just before a large office building. "I haven't the slightest idea." A random foxen passerby stopped in his tracks and strolled over to the two, trying to look as inconspicuous as one could possibly hope to be. "I'm sorry but I couldn't help but over hear you and was wondering if you could use my help?" Tiffani was the first to answer happily, "Do you have a plan?" Jillian on the other hand was a little more stiff lipped when she spoke, "And we should trust you why?", taking extra care in making sure he wasn't a spy. "I'm not asking you to trust me. It's just that my wolven mate was taken from me and I didn't want them to split you two apart." the fox spoke. "I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone." Tiffani blushed at the off shoot thought. "We're not mates" she said, breaking the ice and awkward moment just a little more. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's just that you two are standing so close. I just assumed, well, you know." Jillian nodded her head. "We know each other. Just not in the sense that you mean. So do you have a plan?" "I did in fact." the fox hummed. "I've been watching that guard by the front gate and noticed that he doesn't really use his radio." he said, pointing to the guard by the front gate. "I figure me and her-" he nods toward Jillian, "-we get into a scuffle of some sort and you can snipe his radio." he finished by patting Tiffani on the shoulder. "Sound like a plan?" "I s'pose so." agreed Tiffani. "But will it actually work? I mean no one in their right mind is that dumb." Jillian was going to say something but was shoved backwards by their new found friend. "It's all you wolves fault!" the fox roared as Tiffani backed up. The guard by the front gate looked towards the disturbance. "Hey, you two! Break it up!" he yelled, signaling for another foxen soldier to enter the pen with him. The two fighting canines rolled around on the ground, kicking up dirt and swearing for effect. The guard they singled out grabbed the fox and was kicked by Jillian to push them into Tiffani. It was quick and no one except the planners knew of the real motive. Tumbling to the ground Tiffani sniped the radio, laying on her stomach for a dramatic effect. "Now if I see either of you starting anymore shit, I'm not going to ask who started it and just kill both of you. You hear me?" he taunted, waving his sidearm at both the fox and Jillian before walking away. Jillian waited for a few minutes after they left before seeing to Tiffani, who was still on the ground. "You get it?" she mouthed while helping the vixen to her feet. "Please tell me you've got it." she whispered. Tiffani smiled and flashed the radio, "No prob." "Good girl." Jillian smiled, patting Tiffani on her head, pleased that such a cliché' idea actually worked. "Now let's go find a quiet spot and try to reach Stone. Shall we?" she offered, nodding her approval to the fox that watched them walk away. "God bless." he whispered. "May you save us all."

The two found a quiet spot, away from prying eyes, by the porta potties. Tiffani stood quiet as she handed the radio to Jillian who immediately tuned it to Stone's frequency and began talking. "Stone?" she whispered. "Do you copy? It's Jillian. I'm here with Tiffani. We are at an interment camp that sits in front of an office building. The sign says..." Jillian stopped when she seen Tiffani pointing to the back of the radio. "What?" Jillian asked, turning the radio over and finding the battery cover missing, along with the batteries. "You have got to be shitting me." a frustrated Jillian moaned out, shaking her head and thinking that the shit they went through didn't work. "No wonder he didn't use his radio." she said. "The asshole's radio wasn't all in one piece." "You think?" joked the vixen, tilting her head slightly to show her displeasure. "Either someone really thought this out. Or we have really shitty luck." Jillian commented, debating whether to throw the radio into the drink or not. "So what now?" Tiffani said, dropping her head down and staring at the ground, hoping for some good news or better yet, a miracle. The miracle for sure and if not, she didn't want to give it another though. "Well shit." huffed the wolfess. "We could hope Stone has ESP or something. Try sending him a message through Telepathy, will ya?" joked Jillian shortly before Tiffani flipped her off. "I guess that means no."

While the two sunk deeper into hopelessness, little did they know that they were being watched by Swift, who had recently taken up office. "My trap is set." he proudly said. "Now it's only a matter of time before Stone falls for it. And when he does, so will be his undoing." "You think he'll fall for such a trick?" a voice spoke from behind Swift, a more sinister one than even Swift's. "You forget who you're dealing with?" "You speak about him as though he were a god." mocked Swift. "He is nothing more than a common wolf. Nothing more. One that should be put down, like those he leads." "Hmm." the wolf behind Swift grinned. "I've kept up my end of the bargain. Are you going to keep up yours?" he taunted. "Or do I need to remind of what will happen should you fail?" Swift ran his claws down the window, leaving trail marks in their wake. "I'll deal with Stone. You just keep your threats to yourself. Besides, I have the upper hand. I have his mate." cackled Swift as continued gazing down on the sight below, knowing full well that Tiffani was down there. "To love is to follow blindly, the path is bitter. So shall Sorrow fall. And his legend with him."
