Kaa's head rose from the mound, glowering furiously. Mowgli thought for a moment that the snake would rear up and attack him right there and now, but instead Kaa took a deep breath and asked in his hissing voice. "When did I lie? I sssaid that I could sssee to it you'd never have to leave thisss jungle. I wasssn't lying."

Mowgli wasn't convinced. "You said I could trust you!"

"And you can. If you trussst me, I can make everything better for you."
