The Corporate: Part 8 of 8
Harold awoke in his office. Had it all just been a dream? But it didn't matter. Real
or not, it none of that was important anymore. Realizing the darkness of his office, Harold
quickly glanced at his watch. It was already midnight.
Standing up, Harold made his way towards a light switch. Finally finding it, he
flicked it on then quickly examined the room. Nothing unusual to be seen, Harold breathed a
sigh of relief. And then he heard a telephone ring. He had nearly forgotten that the offices
were still open.
Walking just outside his office, Harold stopped at the front desk. Beth was sitting
quietly in her chair typing away at a keyboard. Finally noticing him, she stopped and asked
what the matter was. Harold sparked an idea. He asked for the intercom microphone. She handed
it to him. Pressing the large button on the side, Harold spoke into the device, intentionally
sounding angry. He began yelling on a rant that went over company morale policy, and made it
clear that he was not seeing that policy being met. With a final huff, he yelled for every
worker to return home and not come back until the Holidays were over.
Releasing the button, there was an air of silence. After a few moment, that silence was
broken with the unified cheers that radiated from the floors beneath Harold. Harold looked over
towards Beth. Eyes wide, her shock was obvious. Jumping up from her chair, she ran around the
desk and hugged Harold full force. Harold embraced his sister, Harold assured her that he would
be there for her this Christmas.
