VI. Midnight mishaps

As told by Nina

The evening passed relatively quickly, as we were all having a good time. Even Milo appeared to enjoy himself, despite his initial reluctance to be with us in the first place. It was so good to be back home again, after two weeks of hard work.

But alas, the clock kept ticking and eventually, we had to go to sleep. Steffen had left us a while earlier, because he was more tired than he thought he would be. Once in my room, I changed into a pair of two-piece pajamas and went to brush my teeth.

In the bathroom, I ran into Milo again, who was quietly performing the same daily task I was about to start with. When he rinsed his mouth, I could not resist the urge to tell him to show his teeth to me, so I could check if my puppy had done a proper job.

He smiled and did what I asked him to do in anticipation of a compliment from my side, which he absolutely deserved. Before he left the bathroom, I gave him a hug and whispered in his ear that I expected my puppy not to forget his diaper before he went to sleep. Milo replied by unzipping his sleeper, showing that he was already wearing one, so I complimented him again and ruffled his headfur.

Back in my room, the weariness caused by all the events and impressions of the day finally hit me and I longed for nothing but to sleep, cuddling with my sheep - wait, Pam was gone. On my pillow, a fluffy White Shepherd looked at me with adorable eyes, as if she was asking me to join her. I quickly crawled under the covers, and snuggling with Natasha, I fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

I woke up in a jolt in the middle of the night. The digital clock on my nightstand told me that it was 4:33 a.m., way too early to get out of bed. In my state of semi-wakefulness, I managed to conclude that I had not woken up because of the clock's alarm. Neither did I feel the need to pay the toilet a visit, so there had to be another reason. I looked to my side, finding Natasha to be still with me, so my awakening was not to blame on her possible absence either.

Partly instinctively, I got out of my bed and made my way to the guest room. Not bothering to switch any lights on, as I could still find my way with my eyes closed and light might wake up other people in the house.

By a similar reason, I did not knock on the door. If Milo was still asleep, that would wake him up and if he was awake, my presence would probably not bother him. As noiselessly as I could, I pushed the handle down and slowly opened the door.

Holding my breath for a few seconds, I heard Milo breathing steadily. However, when I looked at the bed, his body was not there. To avoid confusion, and partly because his absence scared me, I quickly switched the twilight lamp on the nightstand on.

As the small lamp cast its light in the room, I found Milo at the foot of the bed, lying on the floor with his muzzle facing down. I hurried towards him and knelt next to his body, placing my hands on his shoulder blades. With a slow, gentle squeeze, I tried to wake him up.

"Whuh? Wh-what?" he murmured.

I shushed him and petted his head a few times.

"Don't worry, Milo, it's just me," I whispered.

"Nina? Oh, um... hi, I guess?"

I chuckled as he slowly sat up.

"What are you doing here on the floor? I'm pretty sure you I tucked you in when you went to sleep."

He firmly shook his head twice.

"Last thing I remember is needing to go potty, but I kinda stumbled, I guess. Must have fallen asleep again."

"Did you hurt yourself?"

"Not badly. I'll live."

"Do you... still need to go potty?" I asked a little bashful.

Milo gently groped his crotch with one hand and looked away from me, folding his ears flat against his head.

"Well?" I pushed, just to tease him a little.

Still looking away from me, he shook his head in denial.

With a smile, I offered my hand to help him back on his paws.

"Go lie on the bed," I advised.

"But I's need changed-" he started, but I cut him off.

"Hush, little doggie. I'll take care of that," I kindly replied, looking for his duffel bag.

When I had found Milo's bag, I noticed that he was trying to get comfortable on the bed again. Holding Sharra close to him with one hand, he petted his plushie with the other. Wasting as little time as possible, I gathered a clean diaper, a package of wipes and a plastic ziplock bag.

Milo had zipped down his sleeper and let me take it from there. After undoing the tapes, it took only a few nimble moves to remove his used diaper - with a little help in the form of Milo lifting his butt for me - and wiping his private area in the process.

As I threaded his tail through the tailhole of the diaper, I looked at his face and saw that his eyes were closed. Since I had already switched his diaper, I made quick work of fastening the tapes. The ritual came to a conclusion when I gently zipped Milo's sleeper back up.

By that time, he had probably dozed off already, which gave me a warm feeling and put a smile on my muzzle. I put the diaper in the ziplock bag and put it on the nightstand. With both hands, I then draped the covers back over Milo's peacefully sleeping body.

I switched the twilight lamp back off and took the used diaper with me, but not before I had given Milo a lick on his cheek. Silently closing the door behind me, I went to the bathroom to dispose of the diaper. After that, all that remained on my to do-list was to return to my bedroom and snuggle up to Natasha, trading the real world in for Dreamland.
