A story that my friend TreIII has been helping me write that relates to his TAMR story on Roommates.

Monster...

A week had gone by since his birthday, and things still seemed to be improving for Trey. He spent some more time with his uncle over the course of the week, although didn't get to see Hanbei because he was off with some of his childhood friends. Even his mother seemed to be a bit mellower lately, and when she wasn't, he simply put on his headphones and blocked her out with his music. He knew his uncle was constantly try to persuade his sister to see through her anger and let the past go, perhaps she was finally starting to listen.

"Hey mom, I'm home," he said coming home late from the library. "Mom, you here?"

He walked into the dining room to find his mother sitting at the table.

"Oh there you are, hey I was wonde..." He stopped dead in his tracks. Sitting on the table in front of her was his journal.

Since about 5th grade, Trey had kept a journal as a means to vent of any emotions. He had kept it hidden from his mother because on more than one occasion he had used some very choice language in which to describe how he felt about her. On top of that, he had also gone to talk about his homosexuality from about the time he was 13.

"Um, w-what are you reading there?" Trey stuttered, trying to play dumb.

"You know damn well what this is you little prick!" She glared.

"Oh shit, she's drunk too," he thought to himself. "Um, now mom I-I can explain."

"Explain what? That you hate me? That you wish you lived with my "perfect" older brother? That you wish I was dead? Oh, believe me; I know exactly how you feel about me."

She closed his journal and in one fell swoop, picked it up and threw it at him, smacking him in the face.

"I give birth to you, raise you, and this is what you think of me?!?!" She bellowed. "You ungrateful little piece of shit, I've always known you were a screw up and a mistake, but now I find out you're a little wise-ass pillow biter to boot!!!! Anything else you wanna come forward about, some secret boyfriend you got?!?!"

"N-no mom," Trey said trying not to sound defeated.

"Yeah that's right, cause everyone else can see what I see, a little worthless piece of excrement not worth acknowledging!!"

He couldn't take it anymore. "SHUT UP!!! You are the only one on this God damn planet who feels that way about me and for no good reason either!!! It aint my fault you jumped into bed with some scum and got your drunken little ass knocked up, so stop acting like it's my fault that your life is a God damned mess!!!!"

It finally happened, he couldn't stand to let his mother talk to him that way anymore and he finally fought back.

"Why you little..." she muttered under her breath. "I always knew it was a mistake to go through with the pregnancy, a mistake that I should have corrected a long time ago.

She started to stand up but Trey held his ground, he didn't notice however that she had been concealing a large kitchen knife under the table this entire time.

She lunged forward swinging the knife, aiming for her sons throat. Trey barely had a chance to react, but luckily for him his mother lost her balance and missed her original target. She fell forward and the knife slashed across Trey's right shoulder as she fell and hit the ground.

"GYAAAAH!!" Trey yelled out in pain as blood began streaming down his arm.

Clutching his wounded shoulder, he ran out of the house as his mother started to get back up, afraid she would take another swing at him.

He ran and ran for what seemed like an eternity; eventually running out of steam and came to a stop near the downtown area, he had run a full three and a half miles from his home, and was exhausted. His arm had stopped bleeding, and from what he could tell the cut wasn't too deep, no need to go to the hospital, it would most likely scar and then be hidden by his fur.

More importantly, he needed to figure out what he was going to now. He couldn't go home with his drunken mother there waiting to try and kill him again, and he didn't have any friends from school he could go to, the only other alternative was to try and make his way to his uncle house. He walked a little further until he found a McDonalds that he went into to clean his arm off. Afterward he hopped on a bus and was able to get dropped off about a block away from Gaisei's home.

After about another five minute walk he was standing in front of the large building. He made his way up the estate's driveway, and knocked on the front door.

"Trey? What are you doing here so late?!" Gai exclaimed, opening the door.

Before he even responded, he lunged forward into a tight hug, tears pouring down his face. "Mom, she, she threw me out of the house!" He lied.

"Oh, Trey, I'm so sorry. Come on let's get you inside." He said as he led is nephew into the living room.

"Now, tell me what happened." His uncle said sitting next to him on the couch.

"Well..." He went on to tell his uncle what had just happened, about his journal and his mother's reaction to him being gay. However he did not disclose anything about the knife or his mother attacking him. "After her rant, she just threw me out saying she didn't want anything to do with me."

"Another poor decision on her part. Don't worry; I'll get this taken care of." He said as he got up and walked over to the phone.

"W-what are you doing?" Trey stammered.

"Listen, this is nothing about you. My sister has always been this way, and I've tried to be tolerant of her in the past. But she has crossed a line this time, and I'm not just going to stand around while she does this to you!" Gai stated, his anger beginning to flare up. "Hm, no answer."

"She was drunk when she threw me out, so she'd most likely passed out on the couch right about now like she normally is," Trey said regaining his composure.

"Then there's nothing more we can do tonight." Gai said putting down the phone, "but tomorrow we are going to get this straightened out, and if it comes down to it... I don't want you living with her anymore."

Trey tried to say something, but words were failing him at the moment. He simply looked to his uncle and nodded.

"Alright, let's get you in bed; you've had a long day."

He led Trey to one of the houses several guest rooms and made sure he had everything he needed before leaving his nephew to get some sleep.

All throughout the night, Trey had the same reoccurring nightmare. He was standing in front of his mother; she was holding the knife and swinging it at him. He wanted to move, but he couldn't, he was frozen by fear. And then just before the knife made contact, he would shoot up, in a cold sweat.

"Why..." he said rubbing his shoulder.

The next morning when Gai went to go wake up his nephew, he was surprised to see him already awake.

"How are you feeling, sleep ok?"

"Not really, listen can we just get this over with?" He said avoiding eye contact.

"Are you sure you don't want something to eat first or..." Gai started.

"No, I just want to get this over and done with." Trey finished.

"Alright," Gai nodded. "Let's go."

The car ride seemed to take forever, they hit almost every red light there was and traffic was a pain this time of the morning. Trey just sleepily looked out his window, trying his best to avoid any more conversation on the topic with his uncle. He still hadn't come forward about his mother's attack, and wasn't sure what to expect out of her when they got back to his house.

"Ok, let's go get this taken care of," Gai said looking over at his nephew, "and remember what I said, if it comes down to it..."

"I know." Trey said getting out of the car.

No surprise to him that the back door was still unlocked from when he bolted last night. Figures his mom was too drunk to care about that. He was surprised however to see that his mother wasn't passed out on the couch though.

"Could she have made it upstairs to her room?" Gai asked.

"Possibly." Trey said already walking up the stairs.

They made their way into her room, and what they found was awful. Trey's mother was lying face up on her bed, with her throat slit, ear to ear and blood all down her neck and covering her bed sheets.

"Oh God, Kana..." Gai stated.

Trey inched towards her bedside and discovered that she was holding the same knife that she had attacked him with the night before. Next to her corpse was what appeared to be her suicide note, it was a little difficult to make out with the combination of her drunken hand writing and blood on it, but Trey got the message.

"To my son, you made me do this."

Something inside of him just seemed to snap, and a million thought's started racing through his mind.

"She did this because she couldn't kill me? Was I really that bad of a person? What did I ever do? It was obviously something terrible, she killed herself! No, she was drunk, she wasn't thinking right! But..."

He stood there holding the note, trembling. In the background he could hear his uncle talking to the police on his phone, but paid him no mind.

"The police are on their way," Gai said putting his phone back into his pocket, "Trey, are you ok?"

He walked over and put a hand his nephew's shoulder. The sudden contact to his cut made the Gaomon jump and little as he was snapped out of his trance.

"Listen, it doesn't matter what that note says, you didn't do this." His uncle said reassuringly.

"No, I did do this,' he thought to himself.

He pushed his uncle hand away and walked out of the room, to go downstairs and wait for the police. His mind still racing as he reached a conclusion within himself. He truly was a monster, and for the sake of others, needed to keep to himself and no one else.
