Six years have passed since Seth was selected into the Hircine program, during which the galaxy changed in a number of ways. Ancient Forerunner 'Halo rings' were discovered and actively disabled in an effort to prevent humanity's extinction. Huge losses came to both sides of the Covenant and the UNSC but the war was finished now, humanity was safe... For now.

Seth sat in bed cuddling his husky. They laughed and Jeff would nuzzle him and they would be happy. Seth wanted to tell his dog that he loved him, even though Jeff wouldn't understand. Seth's mouth opened but no words came out, instead his vision blurred. The more he tried to speak the more distant everything was, the loyal dog sat patiently on the bed as Seth floated away, and back into the real world.

He woke up from his dream at 0700 as did the rest of his fellow trainees. They were all out of their beds, changed and out the door within the minute, just like their everyday routine. Mendez had trained them for everything, their teacher Fenrir taught them all that they knew and as a result the 38 trainees had become hardcore. Today was different however. There was no Mendez or holographic wolf waiting for them outside; instead an old yet familiar face stood before them. The recruits stood in a line and saluted briskly to Doctor Catherine Halsey.

She spoke in a voice that seemed younger than she looked: "Good morning everyone, today you will be doing something else for a change, something much more important." She gestured toward the huge command centre at the heart of the base and without hesitation the trainees began walking. She led them inside and to a restricted section where a large elevator waited for them. Seth stepped inside wondering what was needed of them on the upper floors. The rest of the group entered the lift and much to Seth's surprise, Halsey entered a code causing the elevator went to go down beneath the building. The doctor noticed them all brace and wobble at the unexpected movement and remembered that the subbasements were secret to most. She suppressed a chuckle and leaned against the wall.

After a couple minutes of nothing but sinking further into the planet, the elevator doors finally hissed open and the occupants filed out. They emerged into a control centre bustling with activity and a very big window overlooking a cavernous room filled with what looked like individual rooms, albeit strange ones. Seth looked around the rest of the room as they walked and his eyes came across a monitor. Spartan I, Spartan II, Spartan II, Hircine, Spartan IV. His curiosity spiked but the group walked out of the control room and into yet another elevator. A few seconds in this one and the recruits found themselves in the large room filled with cubicles, each with a number on it. His heart skipped as he saw an interesting room number: 117.

Halsey walked onto a stage and stood before the recruits. "This is your legendary hour trainees, take your number and proceed to its assigned room." Summoned by the words a group of instructors shuffled between the young adolescents handing out key-cards. One of them abruptly stood in front of Seth and handed him a card, then just as quickly moved on. Seth looked over the small object to see his number was in the thousands. The rest of the recruits had similar fates and they all set out into the maze of small rooms.

The same instructors followed them and helped to find specific rooms and making sure no-one became lost. "Take a right over there then your room should be on the left side further down." Seth nodded to his helper and walked down the painfully white corridor. He double checked his number then swiped the card on the corresponding door slot and it silently slid open. Inside the room were two people, technicians or doctors Seth assumed, there was also a glass chamber which looked much like a cryo-pod. "Seth Balter?" He nodded once more. "Please take a seat inside the chamber then lie down."

As soon as Seth touched the padded interior a transparent cover slid into place preventing him from leaving. He lay perfectly still and using his peripheral vision he spotted mounted needles in the sides. Then a small monitor slid in front of his face and displayed a series of codes. From inside the chamber a tiny speaker gave instructions: "Ok Seth, we want you to clear your mind, and uh... Don't move" Seth relaxed into the padding and stared up at the monitor, but then it abruptly moved out of his view and a plume of gas entered his space. He became light-headed and almost didn't notice the syringes advancing on him, -almost-. He started to panic but remembered the instructions just as the tips penetrated his skin, and then he passed out.

His husky Jeff sat on the bed panting, and then yipped as Seth floated back to him. He laughed as his pet tackled him and licked his face all the while keeping him pinned on his back. The dog brought his muzzle close to Seth's and suddenly bit into his shoulder. Seth gasped in pain as the husky pulled back and bit into the other shoulder. Seth struggled with the pain as his dog then jumped off him and ran into the darkness that seemingly surrounded him. Seth sat up and looked around for his dog, the spied a white tail waving lazily beside him. He grabbed it and followed the furry thing until he reached... himself?

Seth's body convulsed within the pod during his dreaming state as one of the scientists took notes on his datapad. The several syringes unloaded their cocktails into Seth's bloodstream sending various compounds into his system; most of it clung to his DNA and fused with it among other things. Lances of pain stabbed at him from the inside and his training woke him up from the hazy dream. He felt as if acid had been poured onto all his bones and lava filled in the gaps. From outside the pod the doctor grabbed a mike and spoke calmly into it: "Don't worry Seth, this is normal. Everything will be fin-"

Seth suddenly screamed as his bones stretched and changed, though his voice didn't make it through the soundproof barrier. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth as his entire body shook violently against the chemicals inside him. The scientists taking notes glanced back up and smiled, "Its working~" he muttered. Seth felt an abrupt pain in his backside as a new limb expanded there, and then an intense numbness all over his skin as tiny bits or hair bristled and grew. His young face twisted with a grimace and changed along with the rest of his body: His ears slowly inched upwards while he entire head became slightly longer. Seth's mouth pushed forward painfully as his jaw expanded and his teeth popped out revealing a row of new jagged ones. His body had by then grown a short white fur on every spot of skin and a newly developed tail slid out behind his leg. Seth's ears had become thinner as they migrated to the top of his head while his face elongated into a snout with tiny whiskers on the muzzle. Outside the cacoon of pain, the scientist took more notes as the doctor occupied the control panel.

Seth screamed again as more of his bones warped themselves turning his knees backwards into a digitigrade form and his feet grew pads on the bottom as well as thin pads on his developing paws. Each 'hand' was covered in a white fur copying the rest of Seth's body but also a slightly pointed nail on each finger, forming a clawed paw. The serum had just about changed Seth completely when he suddenly howled in pain with his new deep voice. A buzzer sounded and the pod's protective door slid open as Seth slowly and painfully stepped out into his new world~

[Switching to first-person]

I wasn't sure of what just happened, but everything hurt. My body physically recovering from the changes, my eyes straining under the light and pure white walls; my wet nose twitched and my new ears perk forward as he heard shouts coming from somewhere nearby. What are all these things on me? I am so different now... I realised I could actually see over the cubicle wall into other rooms and their pods, I looked around my immediate area and saw that I stood taller than the two adults in the room. The one in the white labcoat held his datapad up to me and I read the changes. I've grown two feet, I have fur all over me and a tail.

I shook my head slightly and took a step back bumping into a monitor. I spun around causing my alien tail to knock various items off a table, including a mirror. I crouched down and gingerly picked up the fragmented mirror then looked into it. A husky looked back at me, at first I thought of Jeff, but then I realised: This is me, I'm a dog now. The shout I heard earlier turned into a scream and my ears automatically turned to the direction. The two humans ran out of the room then around a corner as I climbed the wall and stood on it. Some distance away in another cubicle there was a tiger, and even through its vibrant fur I recognised my friend; Marcus. Just as I was wondering why he wasn't a standing animal like I was, Marcus swiped at a nearby scientist's throat and a gush of blood splattered onto him.

Without further thought I attempted to run along the walls to him, but I wasn't used to my clumsy new form- I toppled off the side and fell onto a nearby pod as its own door was sliding open. I rolled off and dropped to the ground painfully as a bright orange anthropomorphic fox stepped out clutching his sides as he noticed me. "Ow, ow, o... S-seth? Is that you?" I looked up at the fox and realised, _Coleson._He held out a paw like mine and I grabbed it awkwardly as he pulled me back up. More screams echoed around and I snapped back to the situation. "Coleson, follow me- Marcus is killing people we need to restrain him now!" The fox nodded and we stepped out of the cubicle then ran with strange speed to the rampaging tiger.

"Marcus stop! It's Seth and Coleson, don't worry we can help yo-" The feral tiger wasn't having any of that as it lunged towards me and I yelped only to have Coleson tackle him from the side. The deranged Marcus thrashed and managed to bite into Coleson's arm causing him to yip loudly in pain. I realised hesitantly that Marcus was beyond help as I turned to a nearby table and found a scalpel. I picked it up and quickly sprung onto the tiger wedging the tool into its side. The beast roared as Coleson rolled out of reach nursing his bloody arm. The tiger recovered and threw itself at me as I crouched lower and chucked what used to be Marcus over my shoulder when we clashed. The tiger smashed through the table sending random objects flying. I dashed to the feral animal and hesitantly swiped at its neck with my new claws. It choked and gasped as a stream of it blood poured from the wound; then went limp a moment later.

I sighed and looked back over at Coleson, who was now being help by a blue cat I recognised as Lucy and an eagle bearing huge folded wings. I smiled faintly as I walked over to them and gave each of the furry things a hug. We then dispatched to help with any other 'incidents'.

An hour later- We all gathered back in front of the stage as Dr Halsey once again stood behind the podium, this time with a bloodstain on her sleeve. "Recruits, this project has failed in some aspects, but for those remaining it has succeeded" I looked to my sides and saw that besides Lucy and Coleson, only 4 others remained. To answer my thoughts, the speaker continued: "The statistics here are: several of you have endured, 23 of members died during treatment and another 8... Went rogue. You are to meet up in hall C at 0800 tomorrow, dismissed" She walked away briskly with a tear in her eye as the rest of us stood and headed for the elevator.

On the way back to the dorms, myself Colson and Lucy talked together and compared our new features, making jokes and laughing in spite of the recent events. On the way, we received some very weird looks, including some disgusted ones. A few people even poked at us or hit our tails. But as strange as we looked, out intimidating forms scared anyone from doing other things. We reached the dorms and realised that our conventional beds were substantially too small for us. Half an hour later we reached a new room made just for the anthros. I settled into my huge bed and hugged my fluffy white tail as I rolled to my side and sighed, Life is going to be very different from now on...
