The start of a story about a young man who works for the native American Deity Coyote.

I woke up in a cold sweat and shook my head kicking my blankets to the foot of the bed and sighed softly. I reached to my bedside table and grabbed my resperidone and quickly swallowed one down with a drink of water from the water bottle I tended to keep beside my bed. I quickly finished off the water and tossed the bottle in the trash then got out of bed and walked over to my closet to get dressed. I pulled on one of my old navy shirts which was a bright golden yellow and a pair of jeans before walking over to my dresser and pulling out a pair of socks.

I slipped on the socks and pulled on my boots then headed outside silently glad I'd already taken my resperidone so I didn't have to worry about any hallucinations this morning. A bit of my hair fell into my eyes and I blew it away from my face as I walked toward the stables. I worked at C and J stables with my buddy Cody. We'd bought the place with my folks when I was twenty one, which was about four years ago. Cody found it interesting that we would want to make a horse ranch but he readily agreed to put ten thousand dollars down for a third partnership in the business. He was currently at training with the military which left me and my folks as the only ones on the ranch. I walked through the stables throwing hay to the horses occasionally scratching one's poll every now and then.

We had a few other people who worked at the ranch, but it was the weekend so I didn't expect any of them to arrive until later in the day. I figured my old man and my mum were currently eating breakfast or my mum was getting ready for work. I yawned as I gave the horses their grain getting a snort of approval from my horse Jewel as if he was somewhat complaining about how long it had taken me. I snorted back at him and said "Learn patience you old nag. I mean Christ it's not like I don't feed you guys before I even have my own breakfast." He snorted again and went back to eating while I started mucking out stalls. I sighed softly as I worked disliking this part of my job but accepting it readily.

I walked inside and poured myself a bowl of cereal then started eating sitting at the kitchen table as my old man read his paper and my mum got up and headed out to her car. I watched her go and quickly finished up then walked to my room to work on my stories on my laptop. I pulled out my external hard drive and plugged it in then started working on my story guardian angel. I started it back when I was eighteen or nineteen and continued writing it on and off as time went on. I noticed a few of my old friends get online and quickly contacted them still working as I waited for their replies.

Eventually my friend Shal contacted me and the two of us started rping. After about half an hour I had to go and work with the horses, which wasn't so surprising since I was the ranch's main trainer. A green pickup truck pulled up and Anthony, one of the ranch's hands, got out and nodded at me. I nodded back and the two of us walked into the barn grabbing brush's to start grooming the horses. Anthony glanced at me and said "So, what are your plans for tonight Jakey?" I sighed and said "Don't call me Jakey, Anthony. It's Jake; I am still your boss even if I don't act like it all the time." He grinned at me and said "Aye, Aye boss."

My old man walked out to the barn as we were grooming Socks and Jewel. He picked up a brush and started grooming our prize mare, his personal horse, Banshee. She nuzzled him as he groomed her and I grinned happy to see her in a good mood. She hadn't exactly been in the best spirits since Cody left what with him being the main one to ride her and everything. I finished grooming Jewel and went inside to get a drink. I grabbed a can of soda and stretched then walked back outside. I noticed the weather was turning rough but I still had a lot of chores to do. Cody would be back at the start of next week so things would be back to normal around the ranch. I sighed as I let Bella, one of the horses out of her stall to work with her. I lunged her in the round pen silently thinking I'd like to get another place to expand.

Bella kicked the fence as a bolt of lightning struck nearby and I caught sight of something moving in the bushes. I ignored it as the rain started coming down and opened up the gate to take Bella back to her pen only for her to run past me knocking me flat on my ass. I swore realizing that she didn't like storms and she was out in the middle of one. I chased after her, getting the occasional glimpse of her as she headed for what looked like a hole in the side of the cliffs surrounding the ranch. I swore chasing after her and hoping things would work out before the storm got worse. I followed the sight of her blonde tail slipping into the cave and followed her quickly.

As I entered the cave a bolt of lightning struck behind me sending me flying forward and I heard soft feminine laughter. I slowly turned around only to find myself face to face with a beautiful woman who smirked at me and sashayed past me into the cave. I chased after her wondering if she'd seen Bella. After a while the girl stopped and I saw her speaking with Bella who seemed much calmer. I slowly walked up and the two glanced at me, the girl's eyes turning green between flashes of lightning. Eventually the woman said "So you decided to follow me after all. Interesting, most mortals run and abandon animals when the weather turns south." I looked at her questioningly and she explained "Most males aren't willing to give up their time for a mere beast of burden. What leads you to be so different?"

I shivered sensing a strange wave of power coming off the woman and replied "Bella's done nothing but help out the rest of the ranch. I'd never abandon a friend, whether they are man or beast." She slowly nodded smiling seductively causing me to lower my guard a bit. I figured the flashes had just been my schizophrenia playing tricks on my mind as the woman motioned for me to follow as she grabbed Bella's halter and started leading her further into the cave. I followed watching the sway of the woman's hips and silently wondering why I didn't stop her and just take Bella back. I silently wondered what the woman was doing. Eventually she led Bella and I to a cavern lit with torches then sat down on a large stone chair crossing her legs. My eyes travelled up her body, briefly resting on her sizable chest then focused on her eyes which were definitely green now.

She smirked and her canines stuck out almost like an animal's as she said "So you decided to follow me even further. You must have questions for me." I thought about it then said "What're your plans for Bella, and why did you lead us here? I mean you had no reason to lead us out of the storm." She laughed at that and said "Bella asked for my help, as for you, well you were just a bonus." I raised an eyebrow and asked "What makes me a bonus exactly?" She grinned again baring those slightly larger than normal canines causing me to silently fight the urge to step back. Suddenly she let out a laugh and said "You're rather brave for one so young. I've met shamans who would cower in fear at the mere sight of my fangs."

I shrugged and said "I don't fear the bite of a beautiful woman, even if said bite may be able to kill me." She blinked slight as if surprised then smiled and said "Brave and flattering, I like a man with multiple talents." She smirked after a bit and said "As for the bite you mentioned, we'll see." I blinked feeling like I was being studied by a predator and replied "Thanks for the compliment I guess. May I ask your name?" She smiled knowingly and said "Yes you may." I chuckled realizing the trap I'd set for myself and said "Then who are you?" She smirked at me and said "I have many names, but the one that the people of this land call me is Coyote."

I started to ask if she was talking about the legends the natives liked to talk about and she just smiled knowingly as if she knew what I was thinking causing me to wonder how much of this was in my head and how much was real. The woman laughed softly and stood up from her chair then walked up to me and stroked my cheek teasingly. I shivered at her touch and said simply "Why?" She smirked seeming to understand everything I meant with that single word and said "We'll see." I shivered slightly at her tone and started to protest only to have it die on my lips as she leaned forward and gently kissed me.

I blinked enjoying the kiss only for it to end too soon for my liking. Coyote smirked and sauntered back to her chair leaving me to stare at her voluptuous rear. She sat back on the stone throne and watched me then said "Still not running I see." I shrugged and said "My curiosity has always been my curse and you've definitely raised my curiosity." She laughed at that and said "Curious as a coyote. I'm definitely starting to like having you around. Now for a question I think I know the answer to, how would you like a job?" I blinked and asked "A job, what kind of job?"

She smirked and said "More like Jobs than Job." I raised an eyebrow and motioned for her to go on. She smirked and said "I want you to work for me. In exchange I'll help you go off the grid, which was something you seemed to want to do by moving out here, and I'll show you someplace special." I blinked wondering how she knew so much about my motives when I hadn't said very much to her so far. She smirked as if knowing what I was thinking and just watched me with an imperious stare. I blinked fighting the urge to submit to her wondering where it came from.

She laughed and said "You're a strong one, I definitely could use you. So what do you say to my offer?" I shrugged and said "Sounds fun I guess, I'll take you up on it however I don't submit to anyone." She laughed at that and said "Duly noted. Now why don't you head further in the cave where your surprise is waiting and from there we can decide where to take things next." I nodded and walked further into the cave only to come face to face with a pile of gold. I blinked and rubbed my eyes a few times to make sure I wasn't imagining things then slowly picked it up and tested it. After a few tests I realized that this cave was technically on the ranch's property and that meant the gold was mine.

I walked out of the cave, grabbing Bella as I went and headed back to the house the deal I'd made still on my mind and trying to decide what to do with the gold. I yawned as I put Bella in her pen and stretched out then continued walking to the house and crawled into bed. The following morning I got up bright and early and went back to the cave, which was amazingly still there. The throne was still there as was the gold, though now there was a note sitting on the throne. I walked up and picked up the note and read to myself "That place I told you about is waiting. I'll be by your place to pick you up tonight, sincerely coyote." I went back to the ranch and did my daily duties silently wondering what was going to happen when I met coyote tonight.
