Unlikely Saviour
Theodous Ambled about happily, the small Drouse doing flips and rolls in the air as he flew, enjoying the cool refreshing air. As he flew however he kept a sharp eye out on the sky. He knew that various birds had taken a liking to him, and had often tried to catch and eat him... so when he spotted the dark silhouette in the sky, he soon stopped his fun, and moved to the ground, his draconic wings folding up against his back as he began walking through the grass now.
The small six inch creature, had the body of a mouse, but he also had some draconic properties, his wings and small little horns being the most prominent. His brown fur was well kept, and truth be told, he was quite the beautiful specimen.
As he wandered about the forest, enjoying the cool air, he again kept his eyes and ears open... just because he was under the tree line, didn't stop other predators... and it was a good thing he did keep alert. He spotted the movement just in time, and leapt out of the way, as the bobcat tried to pounce on him. He gave a loud squeak and began running, not wanting to risk the bird.
The cat followed fast however, and kept close to the dodging, and zigzagging Drouse, gaining ground slowly. It wasn't until Theo ran a good five minutes... when he came to a dead end... there was a large crop of rocks and he was cornered between them and the cat. The cat stopped running and began to pad towards him, getting low to the ground, stalking him as he pressed his back up against the rocks watching in fear, as the cats tongue slid out and licked over those needle sharp teeth...
And quite suddenly out of the blue, a human stepped between Theodous and the bobcat, thumping loudly with his feet and hollering, waving his hands at the bobcat. "Off with yeh! Shoo! Go pick on some real food!" with bobcat hissed and snarled, arching it's back, and actually taking a swipe at the man, hitting him and leaving three deep scratches which began to ooze. He looked down at the cat scratch and looked at the cat quite angrily. "Bad move kitty." He quite suddenly stepped forward, and kicked... not enough to do serious damage, but more than enough to stun the cat, and make it go flying. It landed a short distance away and took a few deep breaths; the wind knocked out of him, before it sputtered one last time at him, and took of into the bushes.
Gene turned around to look at what he had just rescued but whatever it was had already run... he shrugged and started to head for home again. Must've been a mouse... but boy, it really looked like it had wings... must be seeing things he thought to himself, as he trudged off.
Theodous peered from a bush with big eyes as he watched the human start to walk away. He had just saved his life... with great curiosity as to whom he was, and why he did that, Theo began to follow the human, staying out of site fairly easily, given his small size. It also gave him a good chance to look him over. He was fairly tall for his kind, standing at about six foot three, with dirty blonde hair. He had a scar running though his right eye, but after awhile of watching, Theo believed the human could still see out of the now totally white pupil. Still it was quite unnerving to see. He was well built, and kept a good pace, in great shape. He wore a T-shirt, and a pair of jeans, but other than that, carried nothing.
Soon enough however, they left the dense area of the forest, and got to the outskirts of a small town. Theo had been here before, but had never gone into the town, but still... he wanted to say thanks to the human... so he followed, overcoming his fear of the large houses...
He never stepped into the main area of town, actually, arriving at a small side street, and reaching a fairly nice house. It was massive. It was at least as big as he was, and it had spotted him. Theo was in no way to defend himself... he was stuck halfway underneath the door... The spider moved forward, and its great hairy legs moved out and began to touch Theodous, and he screamed for help, to no avail...
The spider did not enjoy the sound coming from the small creature, and it went to work. Slowly it began to unravel it's web, reaching down and first off, covering the Drouses mouth with webbing, gagging him effectively, before starting to run his way down, the sticky web sticking to him completely, as his arms were pinned to his sides and the spider began tugging him out from underneath, continuing to wrap him up. Soon he was wrapped from his mouth down to his toes, completely caught and helpless. The spider soon lowered down towards Theo, opening his great mandibles, his lethal pincers moving as if to bite, Theo looked on in fear, when the continued to move aside, and it wrapped it's jaws around the torso of the Drouse, and picked him up, carrying away it's prize. It seemed like the trip took forever, the spider making it's way up a shelf, before Theo saw the web... there were husks of various bugs there, and he shivered in fear, starting to squirm even more trying to escape. the spider stepped onto the web, and placed Theodous in the very centre, before crawling back, and this time, it's fangs could be seen... it was going to bite... Theo could see the venom leaking out... He would have screamed but he couldn't... he closed his eyes, waiting for the end...
Then there was a click and the side door opened, and in walked the human, the lights now turned on. The spider stopped immediately, and quickly skittered off and disappeared. He set a couple of boxes in a corner and stretched out. "Well now... Let's see what Shiva caught today!" he stepped over to where the webbing was, and spotted what he thought was a mouse, still quite alive, and squirming vigorously. He heaved a sigh, and reached up, plucking the wrapped Theodous from the webbing. "Shiva, how many times do I have to tell you? Bugs only!"
Gene held the mouse gingerly in his palm and walked out into his small kitchen, cooing at Theodous slightly. "don't worry little guy... you're safe now... we'll get you out of that webbing... that stuffs like duct tape... if I pull, it's going to really hurt..." he pulled out a very fine bladed knife, and stepped forward, and bent down over the still squirming mouse... "Hold still lil guy... I want you out of there, just as much as you do..."
Theodous continued fighting to get out, as the human bent over with the knife. He looked up with large fearful eyes before he heard him, and froze. The human gave a small blink of surprise, before he bent down close, and slowly, but surely sliced the webbing, from just under Theo's Chin, down to his feet, and he could move again. he immediately threw his hands skyward, and pulled himself out of the webbing, shaking and spreading his wings wide, tearing the webbing out of his mouth. He managed to get it all out before looking at the totally flabbergasted human and cried out loudly. "Thank you So much!"
Gene almost fainted seeing the little mouse stand up on his feet. He saw spots when the wings stretched out and the voice finished the job. He slowly slid back, and landed with a thump on the ground, just laying there, with Theo looking at him astonished...
He woke up about a half hour later, the Drouse bouncing on his chest, trying to get him to wake up before he looked at the winged mouse again and almost fainted a second time but held himself. "wha-... whooo.... What are you?" Theo suddenly stopped jumping, and leaped back in surprise, standing on the human's stomach shyly and looking up quietly with big eyes. "c'mon... I... I know you can talk... and I know you can understand me..."
Theodous took a deep breath and worked up his courage and nodded slowly. "I-I'm a Drouse... a Dragon and a mouse..." he blushed deeply seeing the human blink in surprise, almost fainting again.
"D-Dragon? I thought... that was just fairy tales..." the drouse shook his head fast, and spread his wings, flying up into the air and spinning around a few times, as the human slowly slid up into a sitting position watching in amazement. "Okay, Okay... well uh... mr.Drouse... I'm Gene... and uh... who are you?"
Theo stopped in the air and whooshed over, landing on gene's knee and gave a little bounce, standing on it and smiling up happily at him. "I'm Theo, and you saved my life twice!"
Gene blinked in surprise and shook his head a little. "wha? Twice? No just once... wait... you... were that mouse in the forest weren't you?" Theo began nodding again very fast and gene gave a little chuckle, and slowly he reached down and held his palm out. "Well then Theodous... I must say, I'm quite glad I saved you both times... you really are quite the interesting creature!"
Theo smiled happily and hopped onto the palm without hesitation, and Gene lifted him to head level, looking at the small and, though he kept it to himself, quite handsome little being. It was also at that point, he kind of realized that the little thing was naked... but he didn't point this out, guessing he didn't wear clothes... "Gene... I really am so happy right now... I get to meet the guy who just saved my life! Is there anything I can do for you?"
Gene blinked a little and gave a little laugh shaking his head before stopping halfway through and sliding into deep thought. "Hmm... maybe there is... Theo... do you have a home?"
Theo couldn't help but blink in total surprise from the question, totally taken aback by the question. "Uh... no set place really... I just move place to place... why?"
Gene gave a slight smile and stood up, taking care not to bump Theodous around to much before nodding. "Well then, the perfect way for you to repay me, is for you to stay with me in my home..." he gave a little forlorn smile at him and as the Drouses jaw opened in total surprise he explained. "Well, your small, and won't take up any room really, and the reason I'd like you to stay, is that I'm actually a very lonely guy... I kind of stay to myself... and to be honest, I like you... I'd like to talk to you way more often..."
The little Drouse moved up and flew towards the human's chest, and gave what could only be the best hug he could possibly give. "I would be honoured... really I would be... this is an amazing turn of events... but this isn't really me repaying you..."
Gene chuckled a little and wrapped his arms around in a soft return hug. "nah... I need the company... sound good?"
The Drouse looked up and nodded happily and Gene held him in his palm again, lifting him up, and letting him hop onto his shoulder. "Well now, lets go find a place for you to sleep!"
It took most of the rest of the day actually. Showing Theo around the house, and finding ways for him to work various things, the doors were the hardest... Theo insisted on just crawling under, but Gene wouldn't have it. He ended up leaving for a little while, leaving Theo to explore some on his own, before he returned. Gene smiled happily and pulled in enough tools for a construction site, smiling happily. He smiled happily at the small Drouse who looked at it curiously then up at Gene. "Ready to make this house Drouse worthy?"
Gene actually bought a small construction doll worker thing and laughing loudly, with the joke, took the hardhat off of the little doll, and gave it to Theo who proudly wore it, the yellow hat fitting perfectly on his small head.
Gene worked hard, drilling large holes everywhere, sanding them down, and making them just right, wanting nothing more than perfection. Theodous slowly nodded and spoke up, keeping his eyes shut. "I trust you... I'm sorry I shouldn't have done Whoa!" it was all he was able to get out, as gene suddenly reached down and literally scooped up the small Drouse in his still soaking socks. He smiled broadly and held up the squirming Theo in the sock for a few moments, letting the smell and wetness envelope him, before opening the top and looking in.
