Steel encounters his greatest challenge this week, though a pesky demon lord proves to be a nuisance.

Steel reached towards the sky and summoned Pegasus, the flying horse. It had served well as his steed in the past, and today would be no exception. He jumped high onto the horse and flew towards the demon prince, still rising from the ground.

Immediately, he was noticed. Wasting no time, he extended his arm and summoned a bow before firing several spectral arrows at the demon. His gauntlets were blessed by Ares, and he could summon any tool of war he wished at any time. The arrows sunk deep into the demon, "What is the meaning of this peasant! I will devour you!"

Contrary to popular movies and cartoons, giants do not move slow. In fact, they move much faster that regular-sized people. Steel jumped from Pegasus, who vanished, and was grabbed by the demon.

The demon prince was no shorter than twenty stories tall, muscles bulged from every limb, his fangs were longer than the city buses, and his horns were black and twisted. The beast was examining his prize closely, "So, a little treat thought he could stop me." The two were face to face, or rather, face to forehead. Steel reared his head back and bashed it into the demon, summoning the lightning of Zeus to strike his foe. Pegasus appeared and Steel flew to safety as the demon writhed in pain.

As one would expect, the demon shouted horrible profanities, some not of any mortal language, before howling into the sky. Steel was far from done though, he called forth a massive spiked chain and ordered his steed to fly under the demon's arm. With one swing, he was able to loop the chain around the shoulder of the unholy being and grabbed the other end. Pegasus vanished again and Steel landed in a skid on a rooftop.

A moment of horror crossed the demon prince's face, but his reaction was too slow. Steel used his momentum and the additional strength of a pull to completely sever the arm. The chain landed next to Steel, now covered in blood and smoldering tissue. He was no fool, a demon was only a threat to those who had access to strictly mortal weapons, and of course, the other overlooked threat.

Steel wound the chain into a whip loop and turned to the sky. You see, a demon is only as strong as their muscles and weight. The real threat was when the angels descended from the sky to aid their dying brethren. Religions distorted the truth, and why not? Angels were clad in white robes, white glows, beautiful wings, and could heal with though. Steel knew that angels and demons were of one realm, and definitely not at war. Demons were the ground troops. Angels were the supporters.

He had to act fast, else the angels would reverse much of the damage done to the demon. He let loose the chain, then flung it to an angel, wrapping around the torso. He tugged himself into the air, tearing the angel in two. In his other hand, he called forth a small sickle, and then the bloodbath truly began.

Each swing caught another angel, and his pulls got him close enough to eviscerate them one by one. A sad fate, these angels had no power of free will, nor did the demon. They acted on instinct, destroy and fix. Steel had little time to admire the unique creatures as the bleeding on the demon prince had stopped. Unacceptable.

Steel used another flying angel to propel himself onto the very top of the demon, then once again used a powerful swing to wrap the chain around the other arm. This time, the demon attempted to stop Steel, but it was no use. A roar erupted from under his helmet and the other arm fell to the earth, to rot with its brother. To keep his balance, he discarded the sickle in the skull of the demon and summoned a great sword, which was soon forced into the thick demon's head and used as a handle. He swung the chain around almost at random, doing his best to hit every angel he could. If history was any indication, they would abandon a demon beyond help, or leave when their losses are too great.

During his assault, he could hear the confusion and fear from the people on the ground. It was good that he attacked the big, ugly demon. They were evil monsters who lived only to harm the innocent and worship the Devil. Its screams of agony were uplifting and gave hope to the civilians.

On the other hand, slaying angels was seen as a bad action, one that should be condemned. Such divine beings could only be here to help him and the people in slaying the demon. By cutting them down, this mysterious knight has shown that he is under the demon's influence.

Steel sighed and relaxed the chains. The surviving angels were fleeing by now, and the demon had lost far too much blood to do anything, let alone retaliate. Years upon years of practice had made this a boring activity, but a necessary one. Like wearing a cup when Cleopatra is angry. He ripped the greatsword from the demon's head, much to the creature's relief, before repeatedly plunging the entire length into its skull. The demon would only get a final glance at the victorious knight before succumbing to death.

"I hear you!" Steel shouted to the sky, knowing full well what had happened, "Show yourself!" He jumped down, happy Pegasus could catch him, and the two flew upwards, a greatsword ready in one hand and a shield in the other, "Come out you coward!"

It was an Old God, forgotten as time had passed. Steel had some knowledge, but their motives and powers were still unknown, even to the most devout followers. It was apparent that they did have the power to launch small meteors, Steel was quick enough to raise his shield, but that was far from enough. The force alone sent him spiraling towards the ground far below, something not even a flying horse could help.

Before he hit the corpse of the demon, which was already cushioned by the bodies of about thirty angels, Steel raised a middle finger to the sky. Then the hole from which the meteor erupted suffered a grand explosion just before it shut, "Any artifact of war asshole!"

..................................................

Once again, Steel woke up in his office, lying on his desk, "Well then, time to get to it." He pushed himself to his feet in front of the awestruck masses, then screamed a horrible scream. Steel flailed aimlessly, punched a hole through a stud in the wall, threw his desk, and screamed some more. The Grim Reaper held everyone back.

"What's the matter with him?!" Cleopatra's worry was far from unique.

"How would you feel after being shot in the head, hit with a rock from the heavens, and who knows what else?"

Steel's manic behavior subsided after about twenty minutes, and he promptly sat at his desk. His helmet had been removed, and he pointed to Sabrina, "You."

She stiffened up and stood as straight as possible (for a ghost at least), "Yes?!"

"Order a pizza. Everything but onions, anchovies, and mushrooms. You." He pointed to Cleopatra, "Beer. The good stuff. Lots of it."

The angel, the odd one out, stepped forward, "May I do anything?"

"Sure. Stop looking so pathetic." He turned his head, a more arduous process than anyone understood at the time, "Liliy, would you be so kind as to rub my shoulders?" The succubus wasted no time in carefully removing the armor around his shoulders and got to work. While known for their sexual exploits, succubi made for great masseuses.

The Grim Reaper smiled, "See? That wasn't so bad. Just like old times."

"What do you mortals say... you never forget just like you never forget how to ride a bike, or something similar. It was a pleasure to see you in action again." The Angel bowed, "I know this may seem like poor timing, but I actually came here because of a job I found for you."

Vanessa, the young vampire, raised one hand and wiped tears away with the other, "I... have one for you too."

"Aqua, you know the drill. Get the little vampire's job all organized."

"Steel, forgive me but what I know-"

"I was here first." Young Vanessa didn't mince words, "Wait in line please."

The angel looked at her, "Undead should wait behind the divine."

"You broke his wall, so you have to wait."

"The Reaper broke the wall using my body, so that hardly-"

"Your body broke it, you have to wait."

It became clear that this little vampire was both determined and stubborn. The angel gave up and would have to wait, else face the wrath of a little girl with words as sharp as her fangs. Aqua giggled and jiggled as she filled out the job forms, "Steel, is there any other way I can help?"

"Liliy, you did fine. Wait for the pizza and beer. I mean, you are the most normal looking one when you want to be." Steel looked around, "What's everyone staring at still?"

The Grim Reaper sat on the corner of his desk, "What do you think? You just killed something that should never have existed in this world. That, and you have an angel guest despite slaughtering many of their kind. Face it, you're as interesting as a freak show right now."

Steel stood up and did his best to unbuckle and remove his armor, revealing his so-so every day clothing, "It would be best if everyone forgot about what they just saw... or heard... or were told about. Okay? Simple stuff, cause I don't plan on doing that again."

For a moment, Steel found himself in deep thought, "Hey, want to tell us about how you're still alive?"

"What did you all do to get me back here?"

The Grim Reaper turned her face, but not fast enough to keep Steel from seeing the smirk, "Well, I wanted to have some fun too."

"If I find out that there was an army of souls dragging me back here..."

"Don't be ridiculous!" There was an uneasy pause among everyone in the office, "They also brought back the demon horns."

Steel rested his face in his hands, "Nothing can be simple..." He looked through his fingers, "So Angel of Sorrow, you usually don't come by. After all, you handle everything I do with ease."

The armored angel bowed again, almost in a habitual way, "Yes, I discovered something that I believe you would enjoy more than me. When I tell the information to Aqua, it would be beneficial to all if you quickly finished the contract."

"Oh, right. Everyone, that's the Angel of Sorrow, a cursed angel. She was given the power of free will long ago."

The elder vampire was quickly processing the information, "Cursed? It would seem free will is more of a blessing."

"It is, it truly is. Only Steel says that he cursed me."

Once again, all eyes were on Steel. Luckily, Liliy returned to the office with a box of microbrews and several pizzas, "What did I miss?"

"Oh, well, some things aren't supposed to rear their ugly heads again. Like the past. Leave it be and move on, it can't help or hurt you."

A cackle, and Steel flinched, "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone of that day. Suffice it to say, Steel is the reason I can take physical form and affect the world. Such a kind-hearted fool he is. Willingly binding himself to death."

Cleopatra was getting sick of being left out of the loop, she stomped on the ground and shook the building, "Hey, what makes you think you can ignore me?! I am Cleopatra, now, we have a business to run here! Steel, good work." She gave him a hug, "I'll be sure to reward you properly later on this evening."

Steel sat and stared at the pizza and beer. Such sweet deliciousness before him, and yet the conversations grew louder and louder.

"Mr. Steel, are you okay?"

Vanessa's concern was welcome, "I have a favor to ask of someone." Needless to say, this got the attention of everyone in the office, "Would someone please move my arm so that I may consume this feast? I seem to be exhausted."

Cleopatra and the Angel of Sorrow fought a bit, but ended up each controlling an arm, "Steel, everything that happened... it seems as though you planned it all out."

"You want the truth..." He took a big bite of pizza, instantly regretting the oven-fresh heat in his sensitive mouth, "or a lie?"

The vampire thought quietly for a moment, "How about the lie first?"

"Yep, all me baby. Planned from the gunshot to the head to killing a demon lord and hordes of angels. This guy, right here!"

The Grim Reaper sighed, "I wish you wouldn't joke so much about that. I happen to enjoy your schemes, and you being alive."
