The Landing

I stepped out of the landing gate, leaving behind everything I ever knew. The plane that had taken me from where I had been to where I was now slowly disappeared behind me. I wondered to myself where the planes go after dropping off their passengers. Jolted from my thoughts by a voice over the airport loudspeaker, I rushed to the luggage claim. No point in being late.God I'm glad I wore my boots! It's freezing in in Seattle! My only boots made me a bit taller, being black with cute silver buckles on the side, they came to my knees, overlapping one of my two pair of jeans and matching my thankfully warm leather jacket. Pushing my way to the front of the baggage claim I found my new suitcase. My new Master, the man I was here to start my new life with, had bought it for me. You could fit a body in the thing! Everything I cared to own was in that bag and my few meager possessions looked tiny in the large space. I heaved it off of the conveyor belt thing that reminded me of a rotating pyramid, and thankfully didn't pull a muscle. After adjusting myself I looked around for any signs to where I should go. Reaching into my pocket I felt a cool metal object brush my paw. A tear threatened. Oh why couldn't I get rid of this? Everything else is gone, why not this? But I know why, I need to remember. Feeling the tear escape, I quickly brushed my eyes and got what I needed out of my pocket. A photo of the man I was here to meet. No matter how many times I looked at the picture of a man called Caesar, I still couldn't believe it, six foot tall, 250 pounds, this man was huge! No wonder people thought he was a bear instead of a wolf! Ok focus, grey fur, blue eyes, will be dressed corporate casual....

I felt my ear twitch more than heard the little cub to my left. I turned, slightly worried and noticed he was staring at me with awe. I guess not everyone sees a desert fox every day. My long ears make it almost impossible not to be noticed, and my white fur sticks out when I'm around others of my species. I smiled warmly at the boy before turning my attention back to my other surroundings. I heard his mother chide him for pointing, and then her whispered comment about a fennec in this climate to what I assumed was her husband. Mentally shaking my head at them I walked to the food court. There was no one matching the picture here; might as well get some food.

"Alexandria?"

The voice had me jumping out of my fur; I spun around so fast my ears grazed his muzzle. He took a step back swiftly and smiled. He was taller in person; and I felt miniscule at once. "Oh, yes, that's me. Are you Caesar?" Oh thank the Gods I didn't stutter...

"Yes, that is me." He grinned showing a few sharp teeth, "I didn't mean to frighten you. I'm very glad you decided to come here." He placed a tender paw under my chin and tilted my head to meet his eyes. I couldn't help but stand there, mouth gaping like an idiot. He looked ravishing in a black blazer and matching slacks that seemed to melt into his dark grey fur. I could see hints of something that looked like a tattoo, maybe just natural fur patterns, along his neck and face. His eyes, Gods his eyes! They were mesmerizing; royal blue with flecks of glowing gold, powerful and caring. I stared at him, and he placed a small delicate kiss on my nose before releasing my chin.

Caesar's voice sounded slightly amused as he grabbed my luggage, "Come now Alexandria, your new home awaits. I know you must be starving."

"Yes Sir." was all I could manage as I followed him away from the food court. I walked behind him, my tail swinging back and forth, my ears folded to the back, nose to the front; lost in my thoughts as I followed the man I was to call Master from now on. Shaking my head of thoughts better left buried, I found that we had somehow made it outside. The large wolf looked at me with those deep blue and gold eyes. "How are you feeling Alexandria?"

"I'm fine." I lied. I was nervous, frightened, worried, sad, and oddly lonely. I looked at the wolf. He was the only reason I was remotely holding it together. He had been the only one there for me recently. With me through everything that had happened when my world decided to flip on its axis. I smiled; glad to finally be finished with the mess behind me.

He smiled at me, caring and non-threatening. "Well this way then." He pointed to a silver sports car. I never cared for cars, if it looked nice and went fast I liked it; but I sat in the front passenger seat as he stuffed my one bag in the trunk. The car was sleek on the inside, all black interior and seats with tons of legroom. He slid in beside me, leaning over and taking my muzzle in a paw, "You are safe here. I promise." The whispered words were followed by a kiss that melted me into the leather seat. His tongue was soft and tender, a loving embrace of our mouths. I felt warm for the first time since exiting the plane.

As the kiss ended, I smiled. It felt strange to me, like a foreign language of muscle movement; I was truly happy though. For the first time in a long time I felt happy.

The car ride was silent, rain falling softly on the windshield and the steady wub sound from the wipers making my ears twitch. I decided to try and make pleasant conversation to take my mind off of the silence. "It's um... nice to finally meet you." I inwardly groaned. What am I doing?

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well Alexandria." He placed a paw on my jean covered thigh. I looked over and noticed he was smiling. Something about that smile helped me feel at ease. I sighed, slowly sinking into my seat and closing my eyes. The wub started to make me sleepy and my eyes felt heavy. I felt the car turn and stop gently, as if we were gliding across the pavement. His paw gently slid up my thigh and I let it, feeling safe and protected. My eyes fluttered closed and the next thing I remember was him gently running a finger across my lips.

"Alexandria, we're here." I heard his words through a fog of sleep, slowly opening my eyes and doing my best not to yawn; which I failed at. His bright were right in front of me and I could see happiness in them. He had apparently parked, walked all the way to my side of the car, and opened my door before undoing my seatbelt and gently waking me. I groggily turned to look behind him at my new home. This place is huge... My mouth dropped and I had to resist rubbing my eyes like they do in cartoons. I knew it would be big but wow...

I jumped slightly when he grabbed my paw, leading me from the car and towards the house. I could see large floor to ceiling windows to the left of the front door, blinds closed from the cold dreary day. Windows to what I assumed were the upstairs bedrooms stared down at me coldly and I shivered. Maybe it was the rain, but the house seemed dark and ominous. I stood on the stoop outside of the door and waited for Master Caesar to find the correct key. His movements seemed excited as he hurriedly unlocked the door and leading me inside.

As I stared at my new surroundings, sleepily might I add, I had forgotten a previously stated rule. No shoes on the carpet. I took two steps towards the living room and felt a tug on my tail. I jumped and squealed bringing my arms up to shield my chest. "I'm sorry what did I do?"

"Relax, just reminding you to take off your shoes." He chuckled and bent to undo his own laces, humming a happy tune as he did. After a pause, I knelt, untying my boots and carefully peeling them off of my feet. I huffed when my sock disappeared into my boot, annoyed that my footpaw was now cold. I felt my tail twitch angrily as I rummaged to find it, but somehow it had vanished. I looked over to the wolf next to me, or rather wolf bear and blushed as I noticed him chuckling at my antics. Still can't grasp how big this guy is....

"You don't need socks. I like your paws, cute and fluffy." His voice was full of laughter, even if he hadn't outwardly done so. I probably looked hilarious; on my ass, fishing in a shoe for a sock that is long gone somehow, huffing childishly when I couldn't find it. I smiled shyly and continued to take off my shoes, deciding to stuff my other sock in my boot as well. At least they will be lost together.

I looked down at my toes, short black claws peeking out from my longer footpaw fur. Something else strange about me, from my ankles down I had really fluffy long fur covering my feet. It was a hassle to brush and made shoe shopping an utter nightmare.Everyone that saw my feet thought they were lovely though. The thought brought back memories of delicate foot rubs, ones that used end in broken toes and accusations. The thought made me shudder and I looked back to Master Caesar. "May I walk on the carpet now?" I asked with a smile.

"You may, although once your shoes are off you don't need to ask. Come on I bet you're hungry, then we can go finish that nap you started in the car. I'm exhausted." He helped me to my feet, leading me past a large living room and into a spacious kitchen. I sat at the island bar top and watched him heat up some interesting soup from the fridge. "Alexandria, what would you like to drink?" His back was turned to me, paws rummaging in the fridge for something.

"Um... water is fine." I yawned and sniffed the air, smelling familiar scents of oregano and pepperoni. "What are we eating?"

"Pizza soup, one of my specialties; I made it yesterday." He set a bottle of water on the island, sipping his own before moving to the microwave. Using a towel to take out an expensive looking bowl, he slipped another serving into the microwave before bringing me the hot soup.

"Pizza..... Soup.... Sounds weird." I took the spoon offered and stirred the soup carefully, finding cheese and pepperonis in a delicious smelling tomato sauce. I skeptically took a bite, and found it to be amazing. "Wow this stuff is awesome!"

He chuckled and went to retrieve his own meal, sitting down opposite me to eat. We quietly ate for a few minutes, enjoying the silence and the sound of the rain against the house. I debated on scraping my bowl or asking for more when he started to speak.

"Alexandria.... As you know I love your name, but it's a bit long, and I'm not sure how the other members of the house would address you. How about we come up with a nickname; something short and easy to remember." He sipped his water, waiting for me to reply.

"Well, everyone used to call me Ally." The memories that came from saying that name made my heart ache. I suddenly didn't feel hungry anymore.

"Oh no, that is not who you are, you are not Ally. Bleh." He grimaced comically and stuck out his tongue at the thought, making me laugh. "What about Andria?"

"Ew no... gods no.." I made a disgusted face, fake gagging as well. He laughed and set both of our bowls in the sink.

"Alright, that's a no then. Hmm." I watched his face carefully. His lips moved silently as he tried different names out in his head. Eventually he sighed, hanging his head comically. "I have nothing. Honestly all I can think of is Andria and apparently that makes you sick."

"I'm not good with names... I just always answered to whatever someone called me, including bitch and woman." The memories came back again_. How long until my mind would let go?_

Just then the door opened, Master looked towards the living room and smiled. "Ah, the lady of the house has arrived! Maybe she can help." He held out a hand to me, and I took it, walking with him to the living room.

I looked over the living room once again, a plush leather couch and armchair were positioned in front of a large entertainment system, all sorts of gaming consoles and movie players filled the shelves under a large flat screen TV. I knew some of the gaming equipment and I wondered if Master and I would play together some time.

"Welcome home love, how was your day?" The dark grey wolf let go of my paw for a moment to walk towards the door, I followed him with my eyes, and gasped lightly. I had talked to Lady Surra occasionally; she was very nice and accepting of me. I was awed a bit in her presence. Geez I feel so plain next to them.... They're both beautiful.

Lady Surra was a white lioness, covered in faint red markings that seemed tribal in nature. From what I saw, she had markings that started at her shoulders and covered her arms and torso, her deep V shirt covering most of them. She smiled and placed a small kiss on Master's lips before turning to me. "So this is her? Very pretty fox, and those ears are adorable!" Her voice made me think of slow poured molasses; thick sweet and dangerous. I shivered from my head to my feet.

"Good afternoon Lady Surra." I resisted the urge to courtesy. Damn my manners, they are so deeply programed. Well they should be after 6 years.... My thoughts drifted off to no man's land before I was interrupted by the lioness.

"Surra is fine dear." Her smile was warm. I smiled as well and we all walked back towards the kitchen. "And what shall we call you?" She turned to me, her own bottle of water in her hand. Master Caesar smiled and started making her a bowl of the delicious Pizza soup.

"We were actually just trying to figure that out, her full name is Alexandria, but that's a bit long don't you think?" He sat again at the island bar, and motioned for me to sit next to Lady Surra. I sat carefully, not wanting to invade her bubble, wishing my ears to be still.

"Hmm well, what about Alex? Cute, short, kind of boyish, easy to remember." She looked from me to Master, obviously waiting to hear our thoughts. I liked it, it fit me well and I had never been called that before. But I waited patiently to be addressed.

"What do you think Alexandria?" The dark furred wolf took my small white paw in his, rubbing his thumb pad over my wrists. His hands are huge compared to mine...

"I really like it." I felt myself blush as I looked down at the countertop. Alex....Alex... it played over and over in my head like a song. I really enjoyed the sound of it. Thoughts of being called to dinner, or being asked what I'm doing ran through my mind and lifted my heart. It was a whole new name for a whole new life. I looked up to find both the lioness and the wolf looking fondly at me.

He chuckled and motioned grandly towards the rest of the house. "I love it; well Alex, welcome home."
