Power of Light

Ch.8 - Answers Revealed

Wofana stared at Foxara, having forgotten about Vixena. He watched as the fox started changing before his eyes. His fur changed from bright red to dirty brown as spikes, curving downwards, protruded from the backs of his arms. His eyes changed as well, turning a deep black as they filled with his rage, all sense being driven from the young fox as chaotic instincts took over his mind. Then, using incredible power, be breaks the magic chains, freeing himself, as he gazed at Wofana, being driven to kill.

Wofana hurried up and pulled his pants back on and drew his sword, getting ready to fight. "Erg, this is going to be tough..." Vixena also watched. "Foxara, what's happening to you?" Looking into his eyes, she continued to cry, wondering if she was going to lose him to his instincts. Then, at blinding speed, Wofana charged, slashing with his sword. Foxara matched the speed, catching the sword and throwing it aside.

This caught Wofana off guard, and he found himself being hit in the face, sending him flying into some trees, knocking them down. He quickly got up, however, and decided to take a different approach. He flew straight up, out of reach. Foxara looked at him with those black eyes, and flew up as well, straight towards Wofana, almost catching him off guard again. "Argh! So, you do know how to fly," he says, blocking Foxara's attack, then delivering one of his own, a dark blast sending the fox straight into the ground. Foxara growled deeply, getting up and flying towards him again, swiping his claws.

Meanwhile, Vixena had been calling out to Foxara. "Foxara, what's wrong with you? Please, can't you hear me? Wake up, please!" As much as she wanted him to be able to win, she didn't want him like this, with no conscious or sense of who he was. She started crying harder, soaking her facial fur, as she continued her pleas. "FOXARA!!!"

Foxara, however, didn't hear her, his chaotic mind focused on one thing, ripping Wofana apart, as he continued his relentless assault. They struck at each other, dealing blows and sending each other flying, destroying the woods around them. Fortunately, both Jason and Vixena were outside the scope of the battle, so they were safe. Foxara appeared above Wofana suddenly, lunging his claws straight at the wolf's heart. He barely caught it, and now found himself struggling against the fox to keep his claws from plunging into him.

Vixena continued watching, while also struggling against the chains, trying to get herself free. She heard Jason crying nearby. "No, I must get free..." She tried to get up, but found her legs bound, as well. Giving up, she hung her head. "Please, Foxara, wake up... please..." Her crying softened as she just sat there, defeated, nothing to do but listen to Jason's crying and watch the battle.

Wofana continued to struggle, managing to get his feet under Foxara, kicking him off. He got up, panting. "Dang it... He's tough..." He ran towards him, enveloping his fists in dark energy. He lunges at Foxara, who dodges the attack, the ground getting hit, instead. The energy cracks through the ground, breaking it up. Foxara jumps at Wofana, maw wide open, aiming at his throat, intent on tearing into it. Wofana grabs it, pushing away, then jumps to the side.

He watches Foxara land on the ground, charging a fire blast, sending it Foxara's way. Foxara counters, opening his mouth and sending a powerful blast of light straight back, dissipating the fire magic and sending Wofana several feet, letting out a loud howl as he flew straight through trees, until slowing to a stop. He left a trail many yards long, and layed there, apparently unconscious.

Foxara then heard Vixena's faint crying, and headed towards her. She watched him approach, looking in his eyes, still filled with that same look. "Foxara, what are you doing? Y-you wouldn't hurt me... would you?" He walked towards her, snaling, his chaotic mind fixed on her, driving him towards his victim. "Foxara, please, wake up! Please!" She starts crying again, nothing she does having any effect. "Please, it's me, Vixena! Don't you remember me?! Please!! Wake up!"

"V... Vix..." He looks at her, something in his mind stirring. "V-Vixena? Vixena!" He sees her crying, running over to her. He regains his composure, his eyes returning to normal, and his body changing back, the spikes disappearing, his fur returning to its normal bright red, as he kneels beside her, embracing her. "Oh, Vixena, I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you... please, forgive me... I love you." She cries into his shoulder as the two snuggle together, Foxara also starting to cry, guilt making itself present in his heart. "I love you too, Foxara... and I do forgive you."

Wofana gets up, and sees Foxara with Vixena. "So, he's changed ba-ouch! Feels like a mountain was dropped on me!" He shrugs off the pain, and heads towards the two. "Hey, foxie! Time to end this!" He knew that he was still stronger than Foxara, despite the energy lost in the battle. Foxara watched him get closer, his eyes serious. "Foxara?" He looks at her, his eyes still serious, but a look of reassurance present in them. "Don't worry. I know now what to do."

He walks towards Wofana, his eyes shining with a new knowledge, determination exuding from him. "Yes, Wofana, let's get this over with!" He stops, standing there, as his eyes start glowing white. With a howl, he reaches in deep, and pulls out an incredible power, his body reacting once again. His fur turns a pure white, except the patch on his stomach, which turns gold. He also gains three extra tails, totaling four, and his aura glows bright, pure white in color. He looks over to Vixena, and releases her bonds using his new powers, then turns his gaze back to his adversary. "Lets do it, Wofana!"

He looks at the fox's transformation. "This... is bad. He's many times stronger than his last one!" He hovers there, trembling a little, but remains in his battle pose, intent on seeing this through to the end. Foxara is the first to attack, appearing in front of him before he can even react, hitting him in the face into the ground. Wofana gets up, holding his muzzle. "OWCH! Dang, that hurt..." He flies up, charging his magic, then sends a number of powerful blasts at Foxara.

He flies off, swerving and waeving around the blasts, then heads for Wofana again, sending his arm straight into his side. Wofana howls in pain as he is sent flying again, crashing back into the ground. He starts to get back up, charging his magic again, when Foxara grabs his shirt, looking in the wolf's eyes before headbutting him. Wofana cries out in pain, his vision blurring. He shortly regains his composure, and flies away, his shirt tearing, it still in Foxara's grasp.

Sending out a burst of magical energy, he sends a cloud of dust at Foxara, catching him off guard. While he's blided, Wofana takes the chance, flying in, elbowing him in the gut. He then blasts him with ice energy, freezing him solid. The dust clears, and Wofana looks upon him. "Heh, that did it. Time to finish this." He starts focusing his powers, his eyes remaining fixed on Foxara.

Then, to the wolf's amazement, the ice cracks. "What?!! How the-" He's abruptly cut off, as rays of light shine froms the ice and it shatters. Foxara stands there, the look in his eyes more serious than before. Wofana continues charging, then releases all his power at Foxara. "TAKE THIS, FOXIE!!!" Foxara watches in amazement for a sec, then braces himself. He catches the blast, struggling against it.

"He- he caught it! Argh!" He increases his effort, the blast pushing at Foxara, who pushes back, bracing his legs to keep from being driven back. "G-good one, Wofana, -grrr-" He growls slightly, increasing his effort as well, the two remaining in their power struggle. Then, with a burst of strength, Foxara takes a step towards Wofana, and another, until he's walking against the magic.

Wofana's maw drops open in amazement, his eyes wide. He was putting all his power into the attack, yet Foxara was overcoming it! Foxara soon lifts the energy over his head, then tosses it into the air. It explodes, filling the sky with a dark light. Wofana watches it, dropping to his knees in exhaustion. Foxara stands there, staring at Wofana, panting, his fur matted in sweat.

He walks over to the wolf, who just stares back, a defeated look in his eyes. "I lost. I failed in my mission, and accept my fate," he says, looking down, bracing himself for what's to come. But, instead of a death blow, Foxara gives him his hand, smiling, offering him help back up. "But, what I did to you, I-" Foxara silences him, placing his finger over his lips. "Something tells me you had a reason for your actions."

Wofana looks at him, hanging his head down a little. "So, you did it. The legends were true." Foxara looked at him, confused. "What legends? What are you talking about?" Wofana smiles at him. "You are the first of your kind to obtain the power you did today. You are foretold in Wolfanian legends. It is said you will unite the kingdoms, a union that will last for ages. It says you will be bathed in light, obtaining a great power. But the way you would gain it, that was where I came in. I knew I had to enrage you, somehow. I never actually intended to rape Vixena. That's why I took this job. I failed the job, like I intended, and succeeded in what I set out to do."

Foxara ponders this for a moment, while Vixena walks up towards them, holding Jason. "Wofana?" She stands next to him, her eyes serious. "I heard all of it. It's difficult, but I forgive you." Wofana stares at her, then turns his gaze from her. "I... do not deserve it." Foxara then interjects. "Whether you believe you deserve it or not, you still have it, from both of us. But, there is a couple things." Wofana turns to him. "What is it?"

"First, why did Elder Mark and King Richard want us dead? Do you know?" Wofana smiles. "Heh, yeah. I know. It's common knowledge in Wolfania, but Foxarians are unaware of it. You see, there's been a conspiracy for generations in the Foxarian Royal Family, which that elder found out about and decided to get in on. You see, everything Wolfanian thieves steal from foxes, the king fox gets a cut of. A good sized cut, that is. On the outside, they're as poor as their country, but, in fact, they're swimming in gold. The gold of their own people.

When you started on your journey, you encouraged foxes all over. They started becoming stronger, and therefore harder to steal from. This reduced their income, and thus, they decided to do something about it. They figured if you could be killed, the foxes would lose that inspiration. You would be labeled as just another weak fox, and the people would go back to the way they were. However, you proved them wrong. You obtained this great power, which will undoubtedly give your people something to strive for. You're a hero, Foxara Kitsuno! Whether you like it, or not!" He smirks at that last part.

The two foxes ponder this for a while. "A hero, huh? Well, I guess... I can handle that." In fact, he didn't really want the title, but he was already pretty much stuck with it, so he didn't really have a choice. He then turns to Wofana. "Since this mission is over, having failed it, that would make you available for a new job, correct?" Wofana stares at him, wondering what he had in mind. "Well, yes, that's true. What is it, and what do you offer as payment?" Foxara cracks a devilish grin. "The payment is our renewed friendship and trust, plus 150,000 gold. The job is..." An evil grin forms on Wofana's face. "I accept the job, and swear to see it through to the end."

A form is seen entering into King Richard's chamber, bowing down before him. "Ah, Wofana, you have come. What news do you bring?" Wofana lowers his head. "I am sorry, your majesty, but I have failed. I was no match for him." Richard looked down at him, his eyes wide with shock. "B-but, what about your powers? That transformation of yours?" Wofana interrupts him. "During our battle, Foxara achieved a new form, one that surpassed my own."

Chattering is heard around the room. Richard hurries down to the wolf. "Wofana, I told you not to say his name in front of others," he whispers in his ear. Wofana looks up at him, an evil grin across his face. "Yeah, people, the Royal Family has been deceiving you for years. Everything the wolf thieves steal from you, the king gets a cut of. Foxara became a danger to that, so they hired assassins to get rid of him!"

The king backs away, just as Wofana draws his sword. "G-guards, he's threatening me!" However, the guards seem rather reluctant to comply. "Did you not hear me?! I order you to arrest him!" Wofana starts walking towards his majesty. "Hehe, sorry, but I have a job to do. Your head is to be taken to my employer. Please understand." His eyes narrowed, the evil grin never leaving his face. He then lunges, swinging his sword right at Richard's neck. "N-no! Don't!"

Back at Mark's house, Foxara and Vixena arrive, having flown all the way here. As they land, the people look at the two, wondering who this four-tailed, white and gold fox was, until someone recognizes his face. "Hey, his face looks like Foxara!" The people look closer, then recognize him as well. "Hey, yeah, it is him." "How did he get that way?" "Hey, can you sense his power? It's incredible!" This chatter continues as the two walk into Mark's house.

Mark had been listening, but he still was shocked by Foxara's presence, for more reasons than one. "Foxara, is it really you? You look so different. And your power, it's so incredible! But, anyway, it's great to see you again." Foxara stares at him, his eyes narrowed. "Can you really say it's so great to see me, after trying to have me killed?" He emphasizes the last part. The people of the village, gathered around the front, heard it.

Foxara proceeds to tell everything that Wofana told him, the people listening, eyes wide, expressing both shock and horror. "Father, how could you? You give us your blessing, only to turn around and barter me off to a mercenary?!" Vixena snuggles close to Foxara, holding Jason in her arms, crying softly into his shoulder. "Now, Vixena, sweetie, please, hear me out." Foxara turns to him before another word can be spoken, his eyes stern, growling, giving him the hint he had better keep his muzzle shut. "Come, Vixena, I believe we're done here." They walk out, leaving Mark at the mercy of the townsfolk.

It was a month later. Richard was dead, and Foxara was crowned King of Foxaria. "All Hail, King Foxara!" The chamber was filled with chears and clapping. Many of their friends from their travels had come to witness the ceremony, including Jake, the traveling merchant, Kyle from the magic school, and even Wofana. He required his payment, after all, and Foxara was more than happy to give it to him. He is said to have been an honorable and just ruler, and his children would continue that down through the ages.
