Towards the end of the week, Jenny had to hop on a plane, her grandmother was doing poorly. Jenny's grandmother was the only one who accepted their relationship. As much as Alice had wanted to go, they agreed it might be better if she didn't. It made it hard on both of them, Alice knew Jenny did not get along with her family at all. She also knew after this, Jenny might just cut all ties with her family. Not that she had much to cut, they never made any effort to stay in touch with her. Really the only time Jenny did anything with her family, was at her grandmother's request.

With no real idea when he might be back and Jenny gone, Alice huddled on the couch. She hated being alone, because she was scared of being alone. No one knew how much she disliked it, she always tried to hide it from everyone. She smiled and said everything was fine, when on the inside it really wasn't. How the hell she ever managed to search through ancient buildings and tombs, she couldn't say. Maybe her curiosity of how they lived overrode her fear of being there. Of course, she was never truly alone in those places...

It was pretty late when he stepped off the plane, his lone bag in hand. He was looking forward to seeing them again. The last of their training had gone well and they were ready for most anything. The real test would come at the end of next week, so he had a full week with his girls.

Nodrog was surprised a few lights were still on. Alice was sleeping on the couch, which was rather odd. He put his things in his room, Jenny was not in their room. He changed into his shorts and went back out to pick Alice up and carry her to bed. She looked adorable huddled under the blanked with an almost death grip on the stuffed bear in her arms.

She didn't make a sound as he picked her up and carried her to bed, blanket and bear in tow. And she didn't make a sound as he laid her down on the bed. He gave her cheek a light kiss and went back to his room. He was a little concerned about where Jenny had gone, which was answered with a little note stuck to the small fridge in his room. It was a short little message, apparently Jenny only wrote short notes. At least he knew where she was.

The sun was just coming up when he caught Alice out of the corner of his eyes. "Are you okay?" Nodrog asked as she walked over to him.

"No, I'm not." Alice said and curled up in his lap.

Nodrog pulled the small blanket off of the back of the couch and covered her up with it and put his arms around her. "Feel better now?"

Alice blushed as he held her close. "A little."

"Sorry I was not here when Nightrunner showed up." Nodrog said.

"A little warning would have been nice. He really scared me..." Alice said.

"He does that to a lot of people. You would think after a few thousand years he would know better." Nodrog said.

"Is he really an old friend?" Alice asked as she snuggled closer to him.

"Yes he is, and he really is what he said he is. His job is to protect us, while we work." Nodrog said.

"What do you mean 'us'?" Alice asked and looked up at him.

"Us monsters." Nodrog said.

That was not the answer Alice had expected. "Oh."

"Don't worry I would never hurt you. You both mean to much to me." Nodrog said. Nothing else mattered to him, he only held them in his heart.

Alice was glad to hear that. It made a lot of her fears go away. It was a rather similar feeling she always felt in Jenny's arms. "You mean a great deal to us." Alice leaned her head back a little further. She reached up with one hand and brought his mouth to hers. That little electric tingle felt good now that she expected it.

He kissed her back giving her firm little ass a squeeze. As her other hand ran down his chest, he ran his up the inner part of her leg and thigh. They both moaned a little as she wrapped her hand around him and he slid a finger inside her.

Alice moaned as he brought her close. She pulled her tank top off, then her panties. She was turned on a little more by the way he looked at her as she stripped naked. "This little mouse wants you to eat her."

He smiled. "You have no idea how long I have waited to hear that." Alice giggled as she laid down on him. Her naughty laughter quickly tuned into moans as he licked and teased her.

Jenny was right, god that felt good Alice thought as his tongue kept going deeper. She couldn't help but push back against his mouth as she trembled from her first climax. She wondered if who ever made him, had this in mind, it felt too good. Alice undid his shorts while he so wonderfully continued to tease every bit of her. Jenny was good, but that little electric spark easily pushed her over again.

Alice trembled as he nibbled and kissed her neck. She was doing a good job of teasing herself as she straddled him. If long slow strokes were doing this to her, she was sure it was doing the same to him. Alice let him pull her down to him and they kissed as he took charge of pleasing them. "I know." Alice giggled and rested her head on his shoulder.

Chapter

Jenny took a cab from the hotel she was staying at to the hospital her grandmother was at. She hoped no one else would be here but she knew all most everyone would be. Jenny wished Alice could have came, but that would only cause more problems than it would help. No matter how much grandmother defended her, they didn't listen. She asked for the room number and slowly made her way up to her grandmother's room.

She took a deep breath before stepping off of the elevator and walked down the hall. Jenny saw no traces of her family as she knocked on the door to enter. Her grandmother and Tomas the butler were in the room. She looked so frail, but her face lit up as she saw Jenny.

"There is my little angel." Grandmother said.

Jenny sat on the edge of the bed and gave the old women a hug. "Hello grandma. Hello Tomas."

"Hello Jenny." Tomas said.

"How are you my dear?" Grandma asked.

"I am doing good. Where is everyone?" Jenny thought it really strange that no one else was here.

"You are the only one I called. Alice didn't come with you?" Grandma asked.

"No we thought everyone would be here and didn't want to cause any problems." Jenny was doing everything to keep the tears from coming.

"That's too bad, I guess I could have been a little clearer. How is she doing?" Grandma asked.

"Alice is doing well, she gives her love." Jenny said.

"Such a sweet little pair you two make. Its to bad the rest of them can't see that. Ungrateful little shits the lot of them." Grandma huffed.

"I remember the time you said that to dad's face." Jenny laughed.

"I called you first because I wanted to talk to you without the others around. I'm not doing very well anymore, Jenny. The illness came back even stronger, I have grown very weak. I want you and Alice to have these." Grandma placed a small black box in Jenny's hand.

Jenny opened the box to find the engagement and wedding ring her grandfather had given her grandma. "They are beautiful. But why me?"

"I had hoped to have seen the two of you get married, I don't think I will anymore. I want my pretty little girls to have them. I'm sure your grandfather would agree." Grandma said.

"As always you are to kind to me. I never have understood why as silly as it sounds." Jenny placed the small box in her purse.

"Jenny, you never asked for anything, you give freely. Alice's parents told me what happened when you and Alice first got together. It warmed my heart to hear you had given so selflessly. You have never been greedy and you worked hard for everything you have. You have shown the world how someone should live and act. You and Alice have sent me letters from all over the world, sharing your happiness with me. Out of all of my children and grandchildren you are the only one to do that." Grandma said softly.

"That's because you are the only one to understand. I remembered how much you and grandpa loved to travel. I am glad you enjoyed them." Jenny felt a tear run down her cheek.

"I did, every single one. You and Alice have been willed the little house on the coast. You loved it so much as a little girl, I hope the two of you will love it together. Like the rings, I wish I could have given them to you at a better time." Grandma said.

"We will treasure them forever grandma. Thank you for everything." Jenny said.

"I know you will dear. I should probably call your father. Tomas, did you remember the keys and the deed?" Grandma asked.

"Of course ma'am." Tomas reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a heavy weight envelope and handed it to Jenny.

Jenny placed the envelope in her purse. "How have you been Tomas?"

"I have been well. I do wish we could have seen you under better circumstances." Tomas said.

"Me too." Jenny said as her grandma hung up the phone.

"Soon as he can... what an ass. At least that gives me time with the two people who mean the most to me. Tomas, I really can't thank you enough for all you have done." Grandma said.

"It has been an honor ma'am. I need no thanks." Tomas said.

The three talked late into the night, Jenny and Tomas stayed in the room with her grandmother all night. Late in the morning they both went to get breakfast from the cafeteria. They both looked at each other and knew it would not be too much longer. She looked even weaker then when they had left. At least they each got one last good bye.

The sound of numerous footsteps echoed down the hall. Jenny looked up from the now empty bed she cried on as her family crowded into the room. "Figures, late as always." Jenny said coldly.

"Now listen here young lady..." Her father said loudly except she interrupted him.

"I don't have to listen to you. If you can't even come for someone you love then I know how I really rate. I am going to take a cab and leave, don't ever talk to me again." Jenny said through tear filled eyes. She felt Tomas put a hand on her shoulder.

"No need for a cab, I will give you a ride. Jenny, it's the least I can do." Tomas put his rosary beads into his pocket.

Jenny turned as they murmured about a number of cold and heartless things. "I don't care what any of you say anymore. I dropped everything the minute she called, and flew three hours to be with her, you couldn't even drive across town. At least I got to say good bye." Jenny cried. She and Tomas left them standing there.

Tomas took her back to the hotel so she could check out and they headed out for the airport. "I am sorry for your loss Jenny, she was an outstanding person just like you are."

"That means a lot coming from you. What will you do now?" Jenny asked as they turned off the highway and followed the road out to the airport.

"Probably retire, she left me a fair pension after working for her and your grandfather for so long. I will miss her a great deal. Jenny the world needs more people like the two of you." Tomas parked the car.

"Thank you for the ride Tomas. Take care." Jenny waited as he pulled her bag out of the trunk. She could have one it herself, but it had been his job to do things like this.

"You and Alice take care." Tomas handed her the bag.

Jenny gave him a hug and walked into the airport. Another company perk, for emergencies like this, if a company aircraft was heading where you needed to go, all you needed to do was ask. She walked over to the terminal and checked in with the woman at the desk. She sat down and called Alice.

"Is everything okay Jenny?" Alice asked.

"She passed away a few hours ago. At least I had a chance to be with her." Jenny said.

"I'm sorry to hear that she passed." Alice fought back tears.

"I will be on a plane to head back in ninety minutes. Alice, I love you." Jenny said.

"I will be waiting for you. I love you." Alice said.

Alice hung up the phone as a few tears ran down her cheeks. She blew her nose before she went and sat back down on the couch. "Jenny's grandmother passed away this morning."

Nodrog gave her a hug. "She must have meant a great deal to you both. I am sorry for your loss."

"She was the greatest woman I have ever met. She spoke her mind freely, whether you wanted to hear it or not. Out of her whole family, Jenny's grandmother was the only one that accepted our relationship with open arms and heart." Alice said.

"Will she stay for the funeral?" Nodrog asked.

"No, she called from the airport. Jenny... does not get along with anyone else in her family. In fact now I don't think we will ever talk to or hear from them again." Alice said.

"That is a shame." Nodrog said.

"It is, families should stay close." Alice said.

"At least she has you to come home too." Nodrog said

"I thought you..." Alice said and looked at him.

"I do, you and her relationship come first." Nodrog said.

"That's not how we see it. It is the three of us now. So we are both here waiting for her to come home." Alice smiled at him. "We won't let you stay distant."

Nodrog smiled. "I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything." Alice put her hands on his shoulders and leaned close. "Just love us, and know that we love you."

He needed to hear that, he didn't know why, but all of his concerns seemed to disappear. He bowed his head down, he believed Alice, they would not let him remain in the background. "Then we will wait for our love to return home."

Alice smiled. "Now you get it." She gave him a hug then got up to make something for Jenny. Her grandmother had given Alice a cookie recipe, it was Jenny's favorite. Alice wiped a tear from her eye as she rounded up the ingredients for them. They would be done by the time Jenny got here. Thankfully Nodrog could help her make them, so she did not burn them.

Chris gave her a hug as she walked up to the plane. Jenny thanked him for his condolences and giving her a ride both ways. Jenny took one of the few seats in the little cargo plane as he pulled the door closed. A quick taxi and take off; she was back in the air heading home. Her heart was heavy, but she felt a little better knowing her grandmother was no longer suffering from illness. Jenny felt no regret over her exchange with the rest of her family. As far as she was concerned they had all ready been dead to her. Their actions today and years past proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

After a quick little ride from a security cart and the short walk to the elevators Jenny swiped her key and opened the door to their apartment. The sweet smell of cookies filled the house and the two of them were waiting on the couch for her. She couldn't hold back anymore and fell to her knees crying. All of the past two days catching up with her and hitting her at once.

Jenny was limp as he picked her up and carried her to the couch. Nodrog sat on one side of her and Alice sat on the other. Neither of them sad a word, all they did was hold her close. Right now that's all Jenny needed was to be held... and a cookie.

Nodrog was surprised to see Jenny up so early as he came out of his room after getting dressed. "Good morning."

"Good morning." Jenny smiled as she took a sip of her coffee. She followed him to the couch with her cup.

"How are you feeling today?" Nodrog asked.

"Still sad that she is gone. Does the pain ever go away?" Jenny asked as she starred into her reflection in the coffee.

"It may never fully go away, in time it may fade, but all a person can do is focus on the good memories." Nodrog said.

"I'm sad because she is gone, but I am relived because she no longer is suffering. Is that weird?" Jenny asked.

"I do not think it is, we all want people to be with us forever, but we don't want them to suffer. I would say those feelings prove you really care." Nodrog said. One step further would be it shows she really is alive. A loss is always hard, but at least she looks at it the better way.

"Would you want us, to stay with you forever?" Jenny asked and searched his face for any clue.

"Yes and no. For selfish reasons yes. But because I would not want either of you to suffer what forever would bring, I would say no. Out living all of those you care about is a fate I would wish on no one." Nodrog said.

"I could see where that would be difficult. Why do you and Nightrunner call yourselves monsters? Neither of you fit what I would call one." Jenny didn't know why, the question just jumped out.

"You would find most monsters do not fit in what most people think of. The term monster, as we have come to use it, it is a catch all word for those of us who are magical in nature and creation." Nodrog smiled to reasure them it wasn't a bad thing.
