This is something I started way back with a friend. I'm writing it solo now, but.. hopefully it'll get better. Forgive any grammar/misspelling...

This is where Enka was born.

Prologue

Nezumii woke up on her usual bed of leaves, the morning sun urging her to get on with her day when she'd much prefer just laying back down and sleeping. Sighing to herself she stretched, lifting her arms over her head and made a high pitch squeak as she yawned. As she sat herself up she tried to finger brush crushed leaves from her too long silver hair. When that failed she stood and brushed off her fur coat furiously. Tediously she made her way to the spring that she'd found when she decided to make camp there in the forest. Kneeling she splashed her face with the cool water and winced. Lowering her ears, she sat on a nearby rock and stared into the flowing water. Alone, she had traveled three months and still she felt as if she was in the same place. Behind she left a mentally and emotionally abusive mother, a mother who had all but left her behind to starve. A lot was still on her mind as she sat silently. How long would it take for her to recover from her scars, from her past? Feeling depressed already she frowned and let her tail curl inwards behind her. It was all too much to take, she had contemplated an easier way out but what good would it do? None. She had done all she could do and she'd make the best of what she had. Being a cat alone in such a foreign place was really frightening though. A rustling in the bushes didn't even grab her attention as a force knocked off of the rock on causing her to flail before she splashed into the stream. Her soaked hair stuck to her face, as she pulled away the curtain of white she came to nose level with a strange looking wolf girl. The unexpected and abruptness situation created a long period of awkward silence that seemed to just continue. Nezumii's nose was literally touching the stranger's nose, they both had to stare almost cross-eyed at each other. Finally seeming to collect herself the girl took a few steps back and held out her arm, offering to help Nezumii up. "Sorry about that! Hahaha, I usually come here by myself. I'm Enkashiahara, most just call me Enka though. What's your name?"

Chapter One: First Meeting.

Nezumii averted her eyes, blushing slightly. She stood on her own and felt embarrassed for just falling over herself like she did. She debated if she should be angry or not. Yet, the girl had really done nothing so bad so she just folded her arms in front of her and wrung her fingers nervously. She wanted to say that it was okay and no big deal but she was too shy to say anything but her name back.

"Nezumii? That's a pretty name, can I call you Nezu?" Enka smiled and Nezumii couldn't help but want to laugh as the girl's brown tail wagged so fast it blurred. Nezumii nodded and then looked down at herself, the last shirt she had was dripping and the water made her chest cold. Hoping Enka didn't notice she crossed her arms over her nipples and felt the urge to scold herself.

"You seem cold, do you want to come over to my house and I can get you something to wear while that dries off? Don't worry my mom is getting food and Dad is working. Come on, it isn't too far." Enka grabbed Nezumii's arm and stared pulling her through the shrubs. Enka waved around the trees effortlessly, it was obvious she knew the forest like the back of her hand. Nezumii used this time to study the girl. They seemed to be close to the same age; however Enka was taller and had a more defined figure.

It didn't take too long before they walked into civilization. It was a small town, quiet too. No one seemed to be outside, no businesses other than a store about a mile away. It was almost eerie the way things just seemed to stop there. They reached a house and Enka had skipped up the steps effortlessly and walked inside the house, motioning for Nezumii to follow. The second her paw touched the wooden floor she felt out of place, as if she was invading and she needed to leave. The urge to turn and run was compelling but with Enka's build she'd be easily hunted down and brought back. Nezumii felt guilty, as if she had forced herself onto Enka and her kindness. Was it the truth or was she being paranoid again?

"This is home. Come on upstairs, you can shower and I can take your clothes so they can be washed and thrown in the dryer so they'll be done by the time you get out. I'm getting a snack, do you want anything?"

Nezumii looked at the ground and shook her head before she made her way upstairs. Suddenly she realized she had no idea where the bathroom was. She was turned on her heel to go back down to ask when Enka's voice echoed up. "Down the hall to your right, first door on the left."

Nezumii's eyes widened as she thought to herself, a mind reader? Shaking her head to herself she followed the instructions and opened the white door to her left. It was really neat, nothing out on the sink counter but a tooth brush. The floor, counter and walls were plain white but the room was accented by fish stickers on the large mirror behind the sink. She looked at herself, she was getting too thin. Her stomach didn't growl anymore just an uncomfortable pinch now and then. Her fur wasn't the snowy white it should be. Instead it was replaced by an awful dusty brown hue around her tail and legs. She was utterly disgusting. Delaying the shower no longer, she stepped into the tub and fumbled with the odd faucet until water erupted out of it. She turned it onto the hot water and felt the spray on her chest, washing away the dirt and cold. She thoroughly washed and rinsed her tail and legs, then soaped up her hair and exhaled. Lifting her head she drank some of the water and felt something she hadn't felt in a long time. Comfortable. After washing away the suds she turned off the water and ruffled her hair, letting the water droplets spray onto the tile wall and plastic curtain. Her green eyes vaguely recognizing the colorful fish.

"Hey, here are your clothes. I made some curry, I'm not sure if you like it but it is warm and ready when you get down stairs." Enka opened the door and placed the clothes onto the counter with a towel. "Thank you. . ." Nezumii waited for the click of the door behind Enka before she pushed the curtain away and reached for the towel, it was still warm from the dryer and it felt soft, pressing her face into the cloth she took a deep breath and it smelt like sweet amber. A chill reminded her of her nudity and quickly she ruffled her hair and tail out before rubbing her body and dressing herself in her large grey sweater that fell to her knees and her beige shorts. As she opened the door steam misted out like smoke in a puff, turning the light off she quickly met Enka in the living room.

Enka patted the seat on the green leather couch next to her as an invitation and held up a bowl of odd brown and yellowish mush. Nezumii sat down, took the bowl into her hands and stared down at the odd looking food that seemed to look more like gravy than anything else. Suspiciously she sniffed and wrinkled her nose. "You've never had curry before? It is an Indian type of food, you know with a lot of spices and stuff. It isn't spicy in a hot way though. Try it, trust me it tastes better than it smells." Enka smiled reassuringly at her and nodded to the bowl.

Using her spoon Nezumii lifted the goop and licked it clean of the content. She was surprised by the sweetness of it and resumed to eat more and more. Only when she was done did she notice the roof of her mouth felt odd. She ran her tongue over the thin film that had developed unknowingly to her and struggled to get it off.

"Haha, glad you like it. If you're still hungry there is more in the microwave and if you want something to drink I can get you a soda from the garage. I'm used to drinking them warm but I can put it in the fridge."

"I'm fine."

"So, Nezu where do you live?" The question rattled her, should she tell the truth and risk looking like a helpless girl in front of her or did she lie to protect herself from looking like a fool? She decided a little half and half would be a full lie so it would serve her purpose. "I live in the forest in a small cottage, I was just thinking about returning home when you knocked into me."

"That sounds nice. What about your family?"

"They are too busy to be home so I'm by myself most of the time."

"Mm, I'm kinda on the bad end of the family situations right now so I understand. Do you have any siblings or pets?"

The desire to ask burned Nezumii's tongue but it seemed like a bad idea. After all the girl and taken care of her all day, it wouldn't be fair to make her talk about something that was obviously bothering her. In that situation do you ask and try to offer help or just let it slide and wait until she trusts you? Nezumii decided to let it go. "I have an older brother."

"Oh, me too! How old if he?" Enka asked enthusiastically.

"Sixteen. He's a year older than I am." Nezumii explained.

"Oh, so you're older than me. I'm fourteen and I get a lot of crap for being so young."

"Isn't it a good thing to be younger though?"

Enka shrugged, "I guess."

There was a long pause before Nezumii said, "Thanks for today. You're really nice. I think I should be going, though."

"Oh, sure no problem. Want to hang out tomorrow? I'll meet you at the river, sound okay?" Enka looked hopeful, as if she really didn't want Nezumii to go at all but was too stubborn to actually say it to her.

"Mm, sure." Nezumii stood and reached for the door knob before Enka stopped her, grabbing her in a massive hum from behind and pulled Nezumii close to her. Nezumii felt a little awkward, when was the last time someone care, gave her a hug, took care of her? It was a nice feeling and Nezumii's chest aches with bitter happiness. She placed her hand on Enka's arm and gave a gentle squeeze.

"I know I asked if you would meet me tomorrow but. . .could you stay here tonight? I haven't had company over in a long time. My mom won't mind and Dad doesn't come home until late. Not to mention we just met and I still want to know more about you." Enka let her arms fall away and she smiled brightly at Nezumii. Enka's warm brown eyes like a puppies, pleading for love and attention.

"Sure."

Enka's ears perked up, tail wagging furiously, "Yay! Okay what do you want to do? We can go in the pool if you want? I can lend you a bathing suit."

Nezumii nodded and the followed Enka upstairs and to the first door on the right. Dragon posters and figurines where everywhere in the small light blue room. A TV set up in the corner with a game console and remote. Enka knelt down by her bed and pulled open a drawer, finding a cute string bikini and tossing it on the mattress, then finding a black bikini and tossing it after the first.

"You look a lot smaller than me so you take the black one."

Nezumii took the black bikini and moved away to stand my the TV were she began taking her shirt off as Enka left to get towels. By the time Enka returned she was already dressed and fidgeting shyly in the slightly revealing top. She had to keep adjusting it so it would cover her chest correctly.

"Whoa! How did you dress so quick?!" Enka asked with shock and smiled.

". . .I don't like being naked!" Embarrassment overwhelmed her and her face flushed deeply as Enka giggled and handed her a towel.

"Favorite color?"

"Grey. Yours?" Nezumii smiled slightly, at Enka as they sat in the pool.

"I like all colors, except red and pink."

"Why's that?" Nezumii blinked curiously.

"Reminds me of periods."

Together they burst into laughter and Nezumii splashed her playfully. "Favorite animal or creature?" Enka asked.

"I like nymphs, mermaids, and cats."

"Dragons and wolves."

They stared at each other blankly and laughed again. An hour later when they got out they were practically best friends. They didn't really have that much in common but they just seemed to fit perfectly together in a weird way. They spent the day just being themselves and having fun, Nezumii never felt so open and free in such a long time. Enka seemed to be a miracle worker.

Enka sat on the edge of her bed playing Silent Hill and yelling at the distorted monsters rushing to kill her. Nezumii lay behind her, watching intently and smiling when Enka cursed because of the infinite amount of locked doors. Nezumii admitted to liking video games but she could never get through the story because she wasn't good at them, so Enka played for her. Every time Enka would die she'd growl at the TV screen and glare, saying that she got it and would get it next time.

"Seriously, I want to know the hell goes around breaking all of these damn locks! Don't worry though, two seconds and I'll be moving on. . . .Damn it! What the hell? No, no get away from me. Ah! Running, running, no don't hit me! You little bitch, come back here! No, I didn't mean it go the other way. Which way do I go now? Nezu left or right? Gah, why didn't you answer fast enough now their back on my ass. Augh!" Enka's explosive amount of energy made Nezumii tired and the more she lay on the bed the more tired she felt.

"You know what? I'm done with this game. Hey Nez-," Enka turned and looked down and Nezumii. The cat had already climbed under the sheets and was half asleep. Enka smiled down at her and nudged Nezu a little to the side where they could sleep together.

The next morning Nezumii stretched and looked over at Enka who was laying on the floor.

"You kept taking my pillows so I grabbed one from the guest room and slept down here. You know, you make funny noises when you sleep? You smack you're lips and it sounds like you're chewing on something. You talk too, I asked if you were awake you said "Cheese-its." it was really hard not to laugh at you." Enka sat up and lifted her arms above her head. "Haha, I never knew that. Sorry for taking your bed. It's a little small."

"Yeah, it's okay, next time we'll take the guest bed. Anyways do you want to shower real quick?"

"Sure, I think I still have chlorine in my hair." Nezumii sniffed her hair and winced.

"Alright, Mom came in and I told her you were staying over. She wants to go do something today since she's been busy and hasn't gotten much sleep she wants to go relax. I think she said she wanted to go to the beach with one of her friends, of course you'll be coming with us, if you want, duh. We'll probably stop for ice cream later too. We should probably be quick though, Mom tends to be impatient. If you don't mind we can shower together?" Enka suggested.

"Sure. I probably won't eat anything though I don't want to spend your parent's money on someone they hardly even know. Not to mention they'll already be taking me with you, it wouldn't feel right to ask for more than that." Nezumii stood and walked with Enka into the bathroom. "Pfft, Mom doesn't mind. I think she's just glad I have a new friend. . ." Enka lifted her shirt above her head and tossed it carelessly onto the floor.

"Why would that be such a big deal?" Nezumii asked and regretted saying anything as she watched Enka's eyes turn a shade of red-brown. Indicating that she was slightly pissed off about something. "Forget I asked."

Enka sighed, "It's alright."

Nezumii undress and blushed slightly, she'd undressed in front of some of her old friends but it had been so long since she'd gone to someone's house that it had become embarrassing somehow.

"Oh, you don't sleep with a bra either?"

"I just think it is uncomfortable and it leaves lines on my skin. Makes my fur stick up weird."

"Yeah. . . .What the!?" Enka turned and stared intently at Nezumii's chest than back at her own.

"What?"

"Why are you so tiny?! Good lord you have an amazing Asian body." Enka exclaimed, her golden eyes widening.

"T-Thank you?"

Enka looked at her slightly rounded stomach, "Damn you, pudge!"

Nezumii shrugged, "I think you look fine Enka. You are taller and more energetic than any other girl I know. It's a good thing that you eat enough so that you have plenty of it to burn later. Not to mention if you were to get in a fight or something you'd have a little fat on you to soften the blow."

'Whatever, get in the shower you Asian." Enka demanded, glaring playfully.

As the two of them showered Enka washed Nezumii's hair, which almost made her purr until she fainted, and then her back. Nezumii retured the favor but she wasn't very good at it so Enka finished getting the soap out herself. They joked about slippery wet pelts and Enka brought up the fact her boyfriend would be jealous of Nezumii. "Who are you dating?"

Enka's eyes cut and she averted her eyes somewhat, Nezumii didn't catch the emotion. "He lives kind far away. I met him over the internet and he's really sweet. We've skyped before so I know he isn't a creeper or something like that. We've been dating almost a year now. Though, he is really busy so I don't get to talk to him as much as I would like."

"Oh. . ." Nezumii thought of her single status and her ears lowered.

'Something wrong?"

"No. Just tired." Nezumii had an awful tendency to lie.

From downstairs you could hear Enka's mom, "Girls, come on we gotta go. Chop, chop."

Enka turned the water off and got out first toweling off quickly, followed by Nezumii. They dressed in the swimsuits from the other day and wore matching sun dresses. Enka's purple, Nezumii's green because Enka insisted she wear it to match her eyes. Green was also Enka's favorite color, and seeing Nezumii in it made her all the happier. Not that Nez needed to know.

They headed downstairs and met Enka's mom at the door. "Hi sweetie, nice to meet you I'm Enka's mom, you can just call me Mrs. Kelly. Now, do you girls have everything? I packed some watermelon and snacks so we can stay as long as we want."

"Yeah. I don't feel like getting the boards out today." Enka responded by brushing her wet hair.

"Alright well lets go." Enka's mom replied.

Nezumii immediately liked Enka's mom. She seemed bright and cheerful, and yet there was something hinting that she knew a lot about relationships and how things worked. She didn't seem standoffish at all and obviously was laid back. Her fur color was a darker tan color, nothing like her daughter's vibrant orange pelt. She hair looked messy in a sweet way, dark brown curling slightly in all directions. She seemed like a mother, and Nezumii felt happy to be there with Enka, as if she were allowed to have the same love she did. It felt wrong though so Nezumii pushed the feeling to the outer edge of her emotions.

The summer passed and the two girls shared many fond memories. They spent many days and nights together, exploring the woods and playing video games. It was clear to Nezumii that Enka genuinely cared about others and was more selfless than she thought another soul could be. It wasn't long though till Enka started getting curious about where Nezumii lived, because the feline never invited the wolf to come over, but Enka-being the one to never be rude-decided she'd not ask.
