Chapter six

After a week of treatments, Michael is let out of the hospital and he and I become good friends. After the treatments he doesn't commit suicide anymore and he is closely watched by the Nanny Bot.

Having been refreshed by the vacation I get back to work on processing new arrivals but there is a hitch. There have been no new arrivals in weeks. I order a probe sent on the next attempt and the results are unexpected. Heavy radiation from the samples taken which tells me that the earth has been destroyed. I go back through the records of the last arrival and look at the date he left. May 1, 2024. I go back and interrogate the last arrival. I find out that tensions in the middle east was coming to a head from every Islamic country and Israel. That is sad, I can guess who shot first. So that leaves us with a grand total of 1000 men and 2000 women with 250 children under reproductive age.

I have some good news though, the team sent to analyze plants on earth recovered and analyzed thousands of plants. Wheat, corn (Barely survived), rice, coffee, Coco plants and hundreds of plants survived and are still edible and have been uploaded into the food processors. (After they have been processed). So I am eating a earth salad with all the vegetables with an oil and vinegar dressing when the unexpected happen.

By now everyone involved is waiting for the birth of the second generation of humans. All the females old enough to give birth safely are given a baby shower. Every mother is given cloth diapers from newborn to potty training sized with hook and loop fasteners and clothing for the first year of life. And when the due date comes along, Jasmine goes into labor. We had prearranged for a birthing center and a midwife. The travel to the center is without incident and we get checked in and settled. The labor goes fine and she delivers a healthy baby boy. The midwife (A fox woman) checks over the baby. The baby is fine and Mom and baby are reunited. Mom then feed the baby with a little help from the midwife. I go out to the waiting area and announce to my waiting friends and co-workers that Nathan was born this day. And everyone wants to see the baby.

All the females on staff says, "How cute, for a little human."

All the males congratulate me on the healthy baby boy.

Three days later Jasmine is let out of the birthing center and I work out of the home during the time Nathan needs me the most.

One of the humans searching the Earth to identify plants sends me information on one plant, Cannabis Sativa, otherwise known as Marijuana is found growing on one of the islands in the Gulf of Mexico as a native plant. I was hoping no one would find this plant or if they did they would not know of its uses. Now I must make a decision. To ban it fully or embrace it. I have read the information on banning it and the information on legalizing it and in my opinion, it has not hurt anyone, so I order that the use is not outlawed but it is not allowed to be artificially made. And with that, it makes me unpopular with some.

During the sixty days that I stay and help Jasmine, we have been to doctor appointments and not much else. When Jasmine get the handle of thing I return to the office. I hear that most of the women that are giving birth are having little problem giving birth and with the occasional C-section, all the children are being born as healthy as Nathan.

I finally get the word that the Earth is clear of radioactive material and I plan the move back to Earth. First I get a vote on locations on where to place our colony. Some want to place it somewhere tropical, some want to place it somewhere that gets snow and good weather and others want to place it in Europe near the sea. I call for a vote listing location, pluses and minuses of each location and I give my pick for the colony. (I pick North America near the old city of New York, because I want to see the snow again. Over the next three days the votes come in and to my surprise, I won. The first thing to do is prepare the site, I contact the team that wants to mine the old cities and give them their first location. Then I get manufacturing team to create everything that we would need using native materials. Estimated time of construction is two years. I get to look at the atomic separators, which look like the food processors but do it in reverse and their size allows them to process one klltric an hour, which I am told might be equivalent to a ton an hour and then there is the recombiners that take the material from the separators and make sand, concrete, steel reenforcement bars and all the things that are necessary for building buildings.

It's been about three years since since starting the return project, I have fathered two more children and I am raising four, Charlotte, who was the second women that I had impregnated, gave in and accepted me as caring mate and has allowed me to care for Johnathan (The second child I have produced). People have wondered how the children parents are chosen. I have a computer program that checks that both mother and father haven't had a baby together yet and it is completely random on pairings. I think that four generations will be enough for proper genetic diversity.

Today Doc and some of the members of the high council come to visit the Earth. I show them around the village and introduce them to my mates.

"Council members, this is my first mate, Jasmine and my second mate, Charlotte and my four children, Nathan, Johnathan, Alice and Jessica."

"Nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you."

"Is dinner ready, dears."

"I haven't started, yet."

"Well, prepare for 5 guests. The council members are staying for dinner."

Both Jasmine and Charlotte prepare for dinner, a rantouko stir fry.

Rantouko is a animal that is a cross of a cow and a pig. It has the lean meat of the pig, the horns of a cow and udders. And it is about the size of a sheep.

During the preparation of the dinner and all through out dinner the council members are hinting at a announcement. After dinner, as the dishes are being cleaned, I hear the announcement.

"We have known about you humans for many years. Now that you humans are reproducing and building up your numbers, it is about time we give you humans a place on the council."

Everything stops on that announcement.

"You guys want a human on the council."

"The job is easy, we control the military and we have never had to deploy them. And we make policy Federation wide. The only thing is that the job is for life."

"Thank you for the offer. We humans will have to think about this."

"That is all I have to ask of you."

After the council members leave, and the two nanny bots take the children to bed, I get up and record a message to all the humans. It goes like this.

"To all my fellow humans, I got visited by the members of the High Council. After making a little small talk they made a offer that we should consider. First, they offered a single human a place on the High Council. My question is, do we accept and if we do, who should be on the council. Thank you for your time."

The next morning I get up and read the responses. 99 percent respond and 100 percent say yes. The second question is responded to as well. 90 percent recommend me and the remaining 10 percent are for a dozen other people. I contact the dozen that was chosen and to find out they don't want the job. I don't think I want the job either. But the peoples word needs to be heard. I call a vote. At the community center that services the whole community (Which serves as a school) I set up a registration booth for those who want the job. And making sure I get the word out everyday of the event, I begin. And by the urging of both my mates, I place my name on the books. I allow two weeks for registration and when it ends, we get a little surprise

I am the only one registered.

Which surprises me. I make the announcement to the people the next day. I contact Cargoth and inform him of the decision.

Over the next few weeks we pack up everything that we need, lock up the house and get into the transport with me, my two mates and our kids and head for the the space station. I think I have the ability to run both a human colony and the affairs of state

Epilogue, (Written by my son, Nathan)

I finish off this narrative with a word of hope. The Human race was saved by the efforts of one Fur, Dr. Nanzie Richnar known to all his friends as Doc. If he hadn't created the wormhole device and made the calculations on his first try and retrieved my father, I would not be here today. Dad has told the story about how he was taken form Earth so many times that I have it committed to memory. My father always put humans first ever since they retrieved my mother, Jasmine. He had twelve children with twelve different women, I had six children with six different women, and my children have six children with six different women. When my grandchildren grow up, they will have six children by six different women. Only my great grandchildren will have as many children as they want with only one women. During the final days, my father wrote this narrative and had it placed in every school as required reading, federation wide. My father passed away at the ripe old age of 90 earth years. Every human came to the viewing. I miss him. He would on his weeks off take the family on a camping trip in what he called a flying RV. While both my Moms stayed with the RV, Dad would take us kids with full camping gear and set up around the RV. He even got Doc to try it once during one of his visits to the planet when he retired.

My father would be very happy to know that the 7 races live in peace in the universe and our numbers are increasing.
