Dipping into

A clear blue lake shimmered in the midday sun. Gentle winds rippled the water as they weaved through the trees. White fluffy clouds amidst light blue skies. Far from the lights of the city, in the middle of a dense forest.

Bubbles beneath the still lake formed. Rippling the water as they popped. Beneath the surface, a beaver swam through the clear water. Exploring the vast realm before him; tracing the bottom of the lake. Gliding his fingers upon the rocks as he passed. Smooth, polished by gentle waves. Surrounded by life. Fish swimming through the weeds. Over rocks and under water lilies scattered upon the lake. Deeper into the lake's core he ventured. Expanding his view of the world around him. Taking in the sights as they were.

The sound of his heart quickened. His lungs yearned for more air. He swam to the surface. Forcing his body through the barrier between water and air. Drops of water flew into the air around him. He breathed in deeply. Lungs full of air; his body descended back to the water's embrace.

Instead of venturing back to the depths before him. He pushed his head above the water. Opened his eyes and looked around. Turning in his body in the water as he looked along the shore. A moment passed before he spotted his bright red truck and his camp. He realized how far he wandered from shore. His tuck looked like a miniature toy car in the distance.

He dived back down under the water and swam towards his camp. Taking one last look at the sights before his as he went back to shore.

Climbing out from the water; over the many polished pebbles lining the shore. Water dripping from his body. His blue shorts clung tightly to his legs and waist. He walked deeper inland towards his camp.

A modest little getaway. His tent near the tree line to his left. A fire pit in the center of the clearing. A small stack of cut wood a few feet away from the pit. His truck parked at the edge of the dirt road in front of him. The road leading back to the world from which he escaped.

He walked over to his tent and opened the zipper. Inside was his sleeping bag, a back pack full of clothes and a cooler. He didn't have to reach in far for the cooler. He opened the lid and pulled out a bottle of water. Twisted off the cap, and started to drink heavily. The crisp water running down his throat. Cooling him from the inside, out.

He let out a sigh of relief as the bottle parted from his lips. Put the cap back on the bottle and reached into the cooler for something else. A bright red apple. After he closed the cooler and tent, he walked towards a near by tree and sat in the shade facing the camp.

The cool winds blew agents his chest; over his still damp fur. A shiver ran up his back. Pleasurable and inviting. Goose bumps formed under his fur; lightly raising the damp strands from skin.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself as the breeze passed. Leaving him in the wake of his bliss. A smile grew upon his face. He pulled the apple towards his lips. His teeth pierced through it's red skin. Nectar ran from the wound and into his mouth. He savored the taste as the sweet waves poured over his tongue.

The wind blew through the trees. Bringing the sent of wildflowers as it blew against his fur. Teasing the skin beneath.

Another shiver enveloped his back. He breathed in deeply through his nose. The sent of wild flowers filled his nostrils. His eyes widened.

He swallowed the nectar in his mouth with a large gulp. Stray drops of juice ran down his chin as his jaw clamped down tighter upon the apple. Filling his mouth with even more of it's sweet liquid.

The wind whistled by his ears. Dampening the sounds around him; the rustling of the leaves, water splashing upon the shore, birds chirping in the sky. With it's cool breath.

Goosebumps formed under his fur from the wisps of air's gentle touch. The feeling of electricity around his spine. Following every nerve from toe to skull. Body quivering in delight.

Nostrils a flair as the sweet sent of flowers filled his nose. To many to count. Demanding the same attention as his mind gave the wind. Filling his lungs as un-fallen tears held tight to eyes.

Eyes began to water. Coating his eyes as they rounded them. Pulling the pollen and the dust from the eyes.

Wisps of air cupped his cheeks. Gently rubbing the fur upon his face as if they were hands themselves. Tracing his form from the tips of his ears. Over his neck, chest and back. Around his tail, legs and feet. Right down to each of his toes.

The wind left; leaving behind a feint reminder of it's presence. The flowers. Their sent still lingered near him as he awakened from his trance.

His jaw released it's grip from the apple as he looked towards the lake. The green trees waving in the breeze. The sparkle of the sun's gaze upon clear blue water. Lowering his hand to the ground, he swallowed the remainder of the juices in his mouth and breathed out a heavy sigh. This was the escape he desired.
