Chapter 2: My Friends

I woke up quickly and wondered what happened. Then I remembered Kimahri's appearance so I felt relieved, at first I didn't remember, but then it all came back to me in a wave. I got up to get ready for school, then I saw Kimahri sitting at the table and asked, "Will you be alright by yourself?"

"No need to worry," he said, "Kimahri be right here waiting for you." He made a small grin and I waved goodbye. At the time I got back to school, I realized it was A-day and that I have some of the hard classes today. Oh man, I thought, now I have to go through Financial Literacy and Sociology today. I continued walking through the crowded halls trying not to make a commotion concerning Ryan when I heard.

"Please stop!" I recognized that voice, then I saw a friend of mine, Sue, being pestered by two people I've never seen before.

"Come on." Said one of the strangers. "We just want to talk to you." They continued bugging her so I ran to her aide.

"Back off!" I said to the strangers.

"Are you alright Sue?" We were then accompanied by two other people, some of her friends.

"I'm fine." Said Sue. The strangers then tried to talk to her again but we shielded her trying to back her off. I wanted to make sure none of us was about to start a fight, because if we did, we would be suspended, or worse expelled.

"Very well then." Said the other stranger, "We have to be in the library anyway. Bye Susie!" They said in a sneery voice and grined evily as they walked away.

"Hmph." I said, then I turned to face Sue who smiled and gave me a hug.

"Thanks." We then broke the hug and I asked.

"Are those your Stalkers?"

"Yes, they were." She said, then she sighed and continued. "Has Ryan been found yet? I'm awfully worried about him."

"I don't know, it's been weeks since he disappeared and there's no trace left of him still." I paused a little, then continued. "It's starting to get noticed everywhere, in the newspaper, milk cartons, and anything else that involves that, even posters." I shook my head disbelieving what is happening.

"Oh sad!" She exclaimed, then she said, "Anyway, how was your day, did anything happen?" I then felt surprised by what she asked and said.

"Um, yes, it did but you wouldn't believe me." We smiled and she asked.

"Hey, it doesn't matter if I believe it or not, you can tell me, we're friends no matter what." That's true, I thought, I might as well tell her. It took a little bit for the words to come out because I kept blushing, but I eventually said.

"Hey, you got to come over after school today! I got to show you something after school." I exclaimed cheerfully, but It then turned into a different look as I saw her confused, so I quickly asked.

"Are you busy?"

"No, I have time." She said still in a strange manner, "I would like to see it, I have a drawing lesson to give you anyway."

"Sure." I felt really excited that I get to show her to Kimahri, but I wondered if it will work out all right. It'll be all right, I thought, I'm sure of it. Then something came into my mind and exclaimed.

"Oh yeah, your party." I then remembered Sue's birthday party coming up on saturday. I hit myself in the head in frustration because I forgot to get her a gift.

"Hey, relax," she said, "you don't have to give me anything if you can't."

"Are you sure, because I can always draw you a card!"

"It's all up to you."

"Ok." I looked at the clock signaling that the bell was about to ring in less than a minute, then I said.

"I hope we get today done quickly, I can't wait to show you Kimahri!" I exclaimed this, then we went our separate ways. Unfortunately, all of the waiting took forever so my classes got boring and it was killing me. The seconds slowly and silently ticked as I was eagerly waiting to be with Kimahri again. I hope he's still there, I thought, I just have to survive today.

After seven long hours of the same thing, it was finally over. I met Sue again out in the parking lot.

"Man, that was the longest day ever!" I exclaimed sighing in relief.

"I'm sorry." She said as we gave a quick hug. Every time she hugs me or anyone of her friends, it shows that she cares. We got to the car quickly to beat the after school rush as we drove on to home. When we reached the house, we got off the car and I walked quickly to the door through the garage. Sue then told me.

"I won't have much time because I have to work today."

"Oh, I'm sorry." I said in a worried expression.

"It's all right. I brought my uniform with me so you don't have to worry."

"Okay." We smiled at eachother again as I opened the door and walked in, I checked to see if Kimahri was anywhere.

"Kimahri, I'm back." I said, "I brought a friend here today, I'd like you to meet her." I smiled as I heard him ask.

"Friend?" I smile even more to see his presence from the hall. I walked up to him and Sue followed suit. I looked at Sue, who gave a mixed look of confusion and worry. The Ronso eyeballed her for a short moment, it got silent from this, but was interrupted by Sue's expression.

"Wow!" she said, "I'm really amazed right now. You are lucky." I chuckled a lot saying.

"Do you like him?"

"Yeah, that's pretty cool." She said in a tone that states that she thought I forgot, "Seems unrealistic though. I never thought something like him could be real." I then smiled seeing both of them in front of me.

"Come on, let's get aquainted." I said cheerfully, "Kimahri, this is Sue Earl, a friend of mine from school! Sue, this is Kimahri Ronso of the Ronso tribe." They then shook hands saying.

"Nice to meet you, you're really tall." she complimented on this, then the Ronso made a small smile and said.

"Thank you," he said, "but in truth, Kimahri is small Ronso, but now strongest." Sue found that fact really surprising at this, she played Final Fantasy games too, but not X. She used to have IX, in addition to VIII and VII which she had now, but that's really not important to the story. They broke the handshake, then Sue turned to me and said.

"I have to change into my work outfit, then I'll give you the lesson." She then turned to the bathroom down the hall, then turned to us and smiled.

"No peeking!" She turned out of sight then the two of us were alone.

"So Kimahri," he turned to face me as I continued, "what do you think about her as a friend?"

"Nice person," he proclaimed, "Kimahri like people that are like you and Sue. Reminded of Yuna every single day."

"Oh yeah." I then felt strangely concerned about him and asked, "Are you homesick at all?"

"Sometimes, but that is not important. As long as with you around Eric, Kimahri will stay." I smiled and thought for a little bit, but then I asked.

"If you ever want to go back to Spira sometime, will you take me there? I would really love to." The giant looked down at me quickly and asked.

"Really? You are sure?" I nodded in satisfaction and we then saw Sue in her work uniform. It was a dark blue shirt with a logo on it that says Westates Theatres, along with a nametag across from it. I remembered then about when I used to work there. It started out fine for a little while, but it eventually got unbearable. I started to think that it wasn't worth the pay so I finally quit after a few weeks before Kimahri showed up, time was right. I got back into reality when Sue said.

"You ready for the lesson?" I went into my backpack and got out a few pencils, a sketch book, and a few inking pens for the finishing details. We sat down and I showed her my latest drawing, she then seemed really impressed at my drawing of some random character and Kimahri saw it and was interested.

"Good Job."

"Thanks. What do you think Kimahri?"

"Kimahri impressed, keep it up." I nodded and we went into our next lesson, whenever Sue and I have a drawing lesson, it's basically a crash course on a certain topic like body porportions and head structure. Today we worked on the easiest subject, eyes. We kept on for about an hour with Kimahri paying attention in particular interest. We stopped and I went to take Sue to work at the theatre, when I came back, Kimahri went to me and said.

"Kimahri like that Eric does something and learns."

"Really? Thanks." I paused for a moment thinking about what we should do next. I then remembered what I thought of last night and asked. "Do you want to come with me and hang out with Joe today?"

"Who's Joe?"

"Another friend of mine, he goes to a different school now but I certainly think you'll like him." Kimahri nodded and said.

"Yes, Kimahri believe so. Your world full of nice people, Kimahri glad."

"Actually, only some people here and anywhere else are nice." I said this as I was scratching the back of my head. "There are some who are stupid and rude." Almost everyone actually thought of that as a fact, to tell the truth. I went back on topic about hanging out with Joe and I grabbed my phone to call Mom. We waited for a few seconds to answer.

"Hey Mom? Is it alright if Kimahri and I can hang out with Joe tonight?... I can text him about it.... I can tell Joe about this, I'm sure his parents will think that he's a guy in a costume.... All right, deal, love ya, bye." I hung up to call Joe, hopefully he didn't lose his phone again, I thought. "Joe, wassup... Nothing, hey I was wondering if we can hang out tonight for a little while?... No, he's still missing... There is someone I want you to meet. Just make sure your parents think he's a guy in a costume, all right?... If they find out, we could all be in serious trouble... You'll be in for a surprise.... All right cool, we won't show up until after dinner, so about 7:30?... Sweet, we're all set... Later." I hung up turning to face Kimahri telling him the plans for tonight.

"What we're going to do tonight is eat dinner first, then we get to Joe's place at about 7:30 and hang out for a few hours, then we'll be back home. Is that okay with you?" I asked feeling a bit shy and nervous. I coudn't figure out why I was nervous though, so I ignored it.

"Agreed." He said.

"Cool, now all that we got to do is figure out how to prevent you from being noticed too much while we drive there, and it's settled." We went back into the house and relaxed for a bit, Mom came home and cooked our dinners. When we finished, we got to my car and I kind of smiled when Kimahri got in. His head touching the celing of the car, I'm just glad that this Ronso can fit. When he shut the door, we just looked at eachother and he asked.

"Why wait?" I smiled and asked.

"Aren't you going to put on your seatbelt?"

"Seatbelt?"

"Yeah, it's what people wear while in these machines because crashes and accidents can kill people. So we wear seatbelts to prevent any injury and death." Kimahri looked around until he found his belt behind him, he buckled it but I noticed something was not right. I saw that one part of the belt was still behind him, we fixed that and put it in the right spot.

"There, that should do it." I then started the car and drove straight to Joe's house. After about twenty minutes of driving, we got out of the car to see the two story house standing right in front of us.

"Here we are. This is the place." Kimahri remained silent and we continued walking forward to the front door as I ringed the door bell. We heard a dog barking after that and a little bit later we saw a door open up. I knew right then that the person opening the door was Joe's little brother Chris. He looked at the two of us in total surprise.

"Whoa, what's tha-" I interrupted him quickly by saying.

"A friend, hey where's Joe?" I asked quickly looking through the door.

"Upstairs." Right after that second we bolted up the stairs leading Kimahri to Joe's room. I ran quickly to find Joe, and Kimahri followed suit, not trying to break anything.

"Hey Joe!" I looked to my side quickly to see Joe with a Wii remote and smiled.

"Hey, wassup." He looked up and saw Kimahri. He gave a look of complete confusion. There was an awkward silence for a few minutes but then Joe spoke.

"Is he for real?" He seemed to give a look of assurance that Kimahri was not just a guy in a costume.

"Yeah he is, what do you think about him?" I asked.

"Yeah that's really cool." He replied, "I didn't think that this was actually possible."

"Yeah. Anyway it's been a while." A while indeed, like about a month or half. We then shook hands again glad to see eachother again. We have been friends for a while ever since Ryan met him last year, he's really cool. Joe nodded at the two of us a second later.

"Come on Kimahri say hi." Kimahri nodded and faced Joe.

"Hello." he said.

"Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Joe Spangler." They shook hands, then we all gathered around and pulled up a few bean bag chairs in front of the TV. Joe offered me a controller and he turned on the Wii console. As we started playing our game of Super Smash Bros., Joe started talking to me with a concerning look.

"So, do you know what happened to Ryan? Everyone has been affected by it and it sucks." He was right, I thought. I reluctantly shook my head and said.

"I'm not sure, no one knows where he went and the police are close to giving up the search." I began to worry way too much, it was throwing me off of my game. What if they pronounce him dead, I thought. My mind went back into reality and got back into the game, It was a close one but Joe claimed the first victory. We kept playing for a while but then we conversed once more.

"Have you got something for Sue for her birthday?"

"Yeah, I drew a card for her while in school today. It's a little nice something to give her but It'll be worth while." We continued our gameplay and after three more defeats, I claimed my first victory.

"Yes!" I shouted. Joe then acted out something wierdly while saying.

"Ahhh, you got me!" We laughed a little bit, but then we saw that Kimahri was staring at the game with great interest. I wasn't sure what was going on in him, it started to get silent, then I asked.

"Kimahri? Are you all right?" The Ronso snapped back into reality and looked at me and said.

"Yes, Kimahri okay, but these people seem familiar." I figured that he might be wondering about the characters in the game. Mainly because he's a character himself, I guess it IS part of the same universe of games after all, I thought to myself.

"Have you seen them before?" I asked.

"In some of Kimahri's dreams." he said nodding. Hmmm, I thought, maybe it's all connected together somehow. Joe looked at the blue giant extremely confused.

"How so?" He asked. Kimahri fell silent for about a minute, then finally broke the silence by saying.

"Let Kimahri see." We looked at eachother and nodded, and brought the screen to the character selection. The Ronso quickly and carefully observing the thirty five different characters on the screen. He finally pointed at one of them and said.

"The one in green with weapons, Kimahri saw once in dream." I then noticed he was looking at Link from The Legend of Zelda.

"When?" I asked, "What was he doing?"

"He rode a horse shooting arrows at ghosts."

"Oh, so you saw that Link." I remembered that it was Ocarina of Time and said. "Okay, who else did you dream of?" Kimahri pointed at a few more characters including Mario, Pokemon Trainer Red, Ness, and Samus.

"That's it." We went back to playing, switching characters until Kimahri quickly asked. "Kimahri noticed Eric and Joe press buttons to make characters move, why is that?" I then felt a little embarrased as I asked.

"Do you want me to show you?" I then felt more embarrased after saying that, but I saw him nod and said.

"Yes, ok." After that we lent Kimahri a controller and I explained the controls one by one, he selected a character and we went on to the start of the match. Continuing my explanations, as we were going. When I finished the Ronso asked.

"So it would go like this?" What he suddenly did was completely surprising to me. He played like a pro, and whopped my ass badly. How did he become pro that quickly? I asked myself, that just seems impossible. But then again he is from a video game himself so I guess that could be the reason why. We then played normally, and to our complete surprise he beat us. Joe and I couldn't help but stare in total awe. We then both said in unison.

"All right, if that's how it goes, bring it on!" We all smiled and played a match this time. I still couldn't believe that a Ronso can play any game like a pro, I could of sworn that he was like a level nine computer. I noticed that it was about to get late, it was a bit past 9:00.

"We gotta go back home now. I wish we could stay longer but it's a school night."

"It's all right, thanks for coming over." We shook hands and left the building, waving goodbye to everyone in the house. We got back into the car, saying.

"THAT was INTENSE, you never played this game before, and YOU became THAT GOOD at it! I'm amazed!" I proclaimed, "That was better than I will ever hope to be."

"Thank you." Said the Ronso. Wow, I thought, Kimahri is something cool in my life. He's better than anything I've ever known. We got back home in time for the night, and I went into the bathroom about to take my shower. I stripped my clothes off until I was completely naked. I ran the water on and as I was washing myself, I began to think about Kimahri again. I've been thinking a lot about him lately, I thought, He went from a newbie to a pro in Smash Brothers and he's just about everything now. Maybe every game IS connected somehow. I then remembered back in just about four years ago, when Ryan and I first played Final Fantasy X. When I saw Kimahri defeat Biran and Yenke and watched the cutscene after that. I thought that it was really cool. But, as the years have gone by, something about that Ronso got to part of my life up to today. I started to have small dreams about the Ronso. First, concerning Final Fantasy X, the very game he came from. Then, I started to feel connected to him in later ones.

It was at that time when I started looking up to him as my hero. I then thought of him in a closer view. I was curious about this as the water continuously was pouring down into me. Why do I look to him as a hero, I thought, I know that he's cool and all but. I interrupted myself as I saw into my mind what looked like the Ronso stretching. I got a good look at those muscles, they were perfectly built in every part of the body. They were inviting and looked like candy for the eyes. I closed my door, wondering what's going on and still not sure of it. That can't be right, I thought, he's of a different species, we can't be like this. Technically I was right, but I was too tired to think about this and I thought, maybe I'll worry about this later. I laid onto the bed slowly falling asleep slowly, feeling a little nervous to the stomach.

Meanwhile, Kimahri just laid there in the guest bed and thought about why he's here in the first place. Why, and why did Kimahri come to know him? What about Eric that Kimahri like more than other humans. The giant Ronso continued to lay there until he was fast asleep. He started dreaming of back when he was still at Mount Gagazet, just standing there in front of the snowy mountain all alone. He thought to himself, No one want to be Kimahri's mate. Thoughout all Kimahri's life, not one love Kimahri more than friend, that's all Kimahri want. The Ronso continued his walk throughout the peaks of the mountain and stopped to notice what he saw. He walked closer to see me looking out into the distance.

Kimahri was aware that my backside was visible to his eyes. He looked at it happily and glad that I wasn't some ugly person. I was average built, not too overweight but not really muscly. The Ronso walked up behind me and put one of his hands in my shoulders. He quickly remembered that he was bigger than me and thought, Kimahri don't want to intimidate, Kimahri is smaller of Ronso. "No." He said, "It can't be." he shook his head and thought, Eric is Human, Kimahri is Ronso, we can never be. Kimahri don't even know if it's right or not! He got the covers back together and wen't back to sleep trying to dream of something else.
