Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I've submitted anything, but I've been up to my eyes in schoolwork and hadn't had much time to write. However, I finally found some time to sit down and finish the first chapter of my new story, "Cityscapes". I hope y'all enjoy the first chapter to this unique story~ :3

"C'mon! Wake up!" speaks a familiar voice, the sensation of two hands gently rocking me bringing me to life.

I groan loudly, not wanting to get out of bed,

Lin sighs, before shaking me more vigorously.

"Dammit, Dave! Get up! You'll be late for your meeting with Master Nightfang if you don't!"

I slowly move into an upright position, sighing as I do.

"Finally," he gripes, taking a step back.

I let out a loud yawn, my arms stretching up and my toes spreading apart.

"What time is it?" I query, looking at him, still half asleep.

"Ten minutes before eight. I figured I'd wake you up before you ended up being late for your first lesson with Master Nightfang," he replies, his face serious and his stature unspeaking.

"First lesson...? Oh! That's today?"

Lin's palm smacks against his forehead, the loud slapping sound resounding throughout the small apartment.

"Don't tell me you've already forgotten," he sighs as he crosses his arms, the deep red mark on his brow causing me to snicker.

Lin grits his teeth and adjusts his glasses before taking a deep breath, allowing himself a moment to recompose.

"Yes, your meeting is today. You told me to get you up so you wouldn't be late," he grumbles.

"Oh! Thanks for remembering, Lin," I reply, a sleepy smile stitching onto my muzzle.

"Yeah yeah, whatever..." Lin sighs as he rolls his eyes.

I had recently moved to the bustling city of Anorra to study the arckane arts at the side of Master Nightfang, a retired professor from the nearby university. However, none of that will matter if I leave a poor impression by being late, now will it?

"Gotta go shower," I mutter to myself as I slip out of bed, my oversized shirt settling around my waist as I slink into the hallway.

"Better be quick, Dave. Time's running short," Lin remarks as he struts back into the living room.

I look at myself in the mirror, my sullen, green eyes barely able to make out the figure before me.

"Fuck, I forgot my glasses" I groan, meandering back into my room to retrieve my thick-rimmed pair of glasses, the light of early morning painting them lenses a warm orange.

And I thought felines were supposed to have good eyesight...

I skip back to the bathroom, closing the door with a swift flick of my arm.

"Shower time," I mutter as I slip out of my shirt and boxers and into the shower, pulling the curtains closed behind me.

With utmost care, I turn the knob to allow the hot water to flow, the torrent of water quickly reaching the desired temperature. As it does, I pull down on the faucet, the showerhead above dowsing me in pleasantly warm drizzle. I moan softly as I run my fingers through my short, bristly headfur, the sensation of a quaint comfort embracing me as I stand beneath the warm shower of droplets.

"I'm heading to work, Dave! I left the spare key on the table for you!" Lin calls from the living room, his voice barely understandable.

"Kay! Be safe!" I call back as I reach for the lightly colored bottle of shampoo.

I squirt a generous amount into the palm of my paw, taking a moment to inhale the faint but familiar scent of flowers before gently massaging the sticky liquid into my scalp.

What day is today? It's a Wednesday... I think... Didn't Master Nightfang email me last week?

I step back under the showerhead, allowing the suds to lap down my shoulders and onto the floor, giving my head a good shake once it was done; for a moment, I feel a bit like a dog.

I shake my head and chuckle.

"An Ocelot's not a dog, you big idiot."

I grab the bottle of body wash and begin to apply some to my chest, scrubbing my chest fur, belly, underarms, and groin thoroughly before stepping back under the shower head.

I shiver a bit, the warm sensation enveloping my body once again.

Damn, this feels so good...

I absent-mindedly stand there for a moment, letting the warm sensation soak me through and through. It felt good to stand there like that, allowing the warm hands of the stream to caress every inch of my form.

I just wish I had someone else to share this with me...

I let out a long sigh before turning the knob back to its original position.

"No time for that. You'll make yourself late with your wishful thinking."

I swing the curtain aside and grapple my towel from the metal hanger mounted to the wall, swiftly drying myself off from head to toe before stepping back in front of your mirror.

"Much better," I chime as I situate my glasses on my muzzle.

I wrap my towel around my waist before traipsing back out in to the hallway, the apartment's quiet resonating with a soft hum. It was oddly warm, reminding me of the small cabin I called home.

Home...

I kinda miss the simple style of life back home: attending school, doing work around the house, helping Mum make dinner... It was all so quaint and easy-going...

A soft, feminine meow brings me back to reality, Lin's cat, Magellan, likely seeking my attention.

"Well hello there, pretty girl," I reply, crouching down to rub between her ears.

Magellan mews happily as I scratch head and cheeks, her soft purr almost coaxing one out of me.

"Did Lin forget to feed you, Sweetie?"

Magellan meows at me, bumping her head against my knee.

"Alright, alright, girly, I'll feed you. Just lemme get dressed, first."

I get up and wander back into my room, leaving the door cracked just in case my little friend wanted to come visit; as usual, she did.

With a swift flick, my closet doors swings open, my paw snatching a simple black t-shirt and striped pair of boxers from within.

Magellan mews softly as she settles down on my bed, watching me intently as I begin to dress myself.

"Ey, no peeking!" I tease, turning around before slipping into my underwear.

As I stand back up-right, I quickly slip on my t-shirt, turning back around to face my closet once again.

"Can't forget pants. Pants are essential..." I mutter to myself as I grab ahold of a nicely fitting pair of jeans, slipping into the supple denim attire before looking for a pair of socks.

"Where could I have put them...?"

I look about the room, the barren walls seeming snicker at my forgetfulness.

"Why can't things just be simple?" I sigh before turning to my closet to retrieve a fresh pair.

I plop down on the bed, just inches away from Magellan. As expected, she meows at me and bumps her head against my arm.

"I know, I know, baby girl. Lemme just put on my socks and I'll get you some food," I reply, pulling my socks over my slender hindpaws.

With a hop and I skip, I slink into the hallway, Magellan following behind me.

"Let's go see what's for breakfast, pumpkins," I chime, my feline companion meowing happily as we make our way into the kitchen.

I step over to the cabinets, digging through them to hopefully find a can of cat food. Luckily, I do.

"Seafood Surprise good for you, Sweetie?" I ask as I look down at Magellan.

She wiggles her stump of a tail from left to right and meows in agreement.

I pop the lid from the small container, grabbing a plastic spoon from the cup on the counter to scoop her meal into her bowl.

Magellan meows impatiently, following me closely as I step over to her food bowl.

"Here ya go," I mutter as I scoop the mixed chunks of fish into her bowl.

Without a moment of hesitation, she begins to eat, the soft sound of her tongue lapping against the fresh fish breaking the quiet that had enveloped the apartment.

"Good girl," I murmur, digging through my head for a suitable choice of breakfast.

I settle on a simple slice of toast with a bit of butter, seeing as I'm in no position to prepare a larger meal. I reach into the bread box to retrieve a loaf of whole grain bread, the slightly dark, fluffy loaf seeming to be missing it's other half, as if it had been viciously devoured.

I should probably tell Lin he's almost out of bread...

Without much further thought, I pop the slice of bread into the toaster before strutting back to my room to collect my supplies for my commute to Master Nightfang's apartment.

As I make my way down the hallway I begin to sense a strange excitement stirring within my chest, a sensation I hadn't felt since the days I was a kit, growing up in the countryside; it was oddly nostalgic, really.

I snag my messenger bag from the back post of my bed, pausing to remember where I'd stashed my phone.

"Mister Everton, you have received a new message."

The familiar monotone voice of my phone's AI draws me to my desk, the slim cellular device hidden away within one of the two drawers.

"New message, eh?"

I gingerly retrieve my cell, viewing the message preview before opening the message.

A new email from Master Nightfang? Strange...

"David, I hope you'll still be able to make it to our first lesson together. If something has come up, please inform me and I will make the necessary arrangements to reschedule at your earliest convenience. I look forward to our first meeting."

I slow down as the message comes to an end, my finger tracing the slinking lines of his signature at the end of the message.

The familiar sound of popping toast, followed by the scent of something burnt brings me back.

Damned toaster... Worthless piece of...

I sigh and swiftly make my way back to the kitchen, opening a nearby window to allow the room to air out as I carefully remove my burnt toast with a fork. The once fluffy and somewhat sweet bread had become a charred slab of... something. Granted, it's still edible and it certainly wasn't my place to complain.

I sprint back to my room, snagging my messenger bag and phone before skipping to the front door, my burnt toast flopping up and down as I scamper about the apartment. With a quick thrust of my arm, I grab hold of the key resting on the dining table before stopping inches away from the door.

I look the room over a final time, noticing that Magellan had found herself a spot to rest on the couch, her speckled fur shimmering in the light of early morning.

"Good girl," I sigh before taking a bite of my toast.

I make an effort to exit quietly, not wanting to stir the sleeping beauty. With a soft click, the door locks, my chest swelling as I take a deep breath.

"Time to go," I mutter before taking another bite of my toast.

Wait... something's not right here...

I stand there a moment, the sound of the bustling city serving as a backdrop to my thoughts.

I forgot my shoes...

I close my eyes and lean against the door to the apartment, sighing heavily.

Today's gonna be a long day...
