Spyro walked down the dimly lit hallway of the mysterious building he was in with cautious steps, the whole building reeked of an evil stench. Every now and then along the hallway, Spyro came across either a painting or a group of statues that depicted grotesque scenes so horrible that Spyro wanted to vomit when he saw them. At the end of the hallway Spyro found his path blocked by a large, stone door flanked by two evil-looking statues of dragons and engraved with strange runes that he did not recognize . They were from a language unknown to him. Spyro reared onto his hind legs and tried to push the door open but to no avail, it was sealed shut with some kind of magic.

Dropping back onto all fours he studied the door to try and find a way to open it when he heard footsteps coming from further down the same hallway he had come. Spyro ducked behind the statue to the right of the door and watches as a strange group of figures approached the door. Spyro recognized several of these creatures. Some were grublins, some were apes; which puzzled Spyro because the apes were no longer around, they had been destroyed after his adventure to the Well of Souls; several of the mages that he and the others had encountered in their last battle against the Shadow, and a large troll. Mixed in among the creatures he recognized were four that he did not. The only one Spyro got a sense of familiarity from was the one in the middle of the group. It looked like a dragon and moved like one too and yet, was not a dragon. The other ones he did not recognize was due to the swirling clouds of shadow around them. No matter how he adjusted himself for a better view he could not see past the shadow clouds around those three. When the group reached the door the dragon-like creature moved forward and spoke something in a very strange language. Spyro did not know what he was saying but the words sent massive shivers down his spine nonetheless. As the creature spoke the runes on the door lit up. When the the last rune lit up the the dragon monster, as Spyro had taken to calling it, stopped speaking and the door began to grind open slowly. When the door opened about halfway the group moved forward through it. Spyro waited until the last of the creatures had passed through the door before following them. He found himself inside a large circular room with a large hole cut into the ceiling allowing for an excellent view of the night sky outside and an easy escape route. At various intervals around the room were columns decorated with several intricate symbols resembling the ones on the door he had just passed through. As the door closed behind him Spyro hid behind one of the columns and watched as the creatures approached a large throne near the center of the room. Sitting on the throne was a large, red dragon with black marks in the shapes of flames decorating his scales. Behind the throne was another dragon but Spyro could not see who they were because they were sitting in the shadows. When they reached the throne the red dragon raised his head from the cushion he had been resting it on and gazed down at them with malice in his eyes. "Report," he hissed at them. The dragon monster stepped forward and knelt before the red dragon. "My Lord," it said in a soft but still terrifying voice, "we are at the halfway point on construction of your palace and your crystal tower" The dragon seemed pleased with the response. "Very good," he said, "but you must do better, time is of the essence and we can not afford to delay." The dragon monster smiled. "I thought you would suggest that sir and have already taken the proper measures to do so," it said happily, "as of one hour ago the workforce of both structures was doubled and extra equipment was brought in to speed up construction." The red dragon grinned. "Excellent," he said, "you will be highly rewarded for this." He looked up through the hole in the ceiling at the stars and smiled evilly. "Soon," he whispered, "soon I will fulfil my destiny and take my place as ruler of this world" The red dragon let out a laugh that chilled Spyro to the bone
