#9 of Jason's Nightmare

This is part 8 of Jason's Nightmare, a side story to BridgeToPeace's Pokemon High School series. In all honesty, it's been a while since I last updated Jason's Nightmare so I might have lost count on the chapters (please bare with me if i accidentally did).

CHARACTERS:

Jason: Lucario; my main pokemon character

Guren: Gardevoir; BridgeToPeace's character

Damion: Zigzagoon; my character

Sarah: Gardevoir; my character

Raiki: Luxray; BridgeToPeace's main pokemon character

"So, Jason-kun, about that explanation..." Guren mumbled, the female Gardevoir walking next to the male Lucario under the light of the rising sun.

"Well..." Jason said, scratching the back of his head in discomfort and laughing awkwardly. "I really don't know what to say... I too don't know much about it."

"Hm..." Guren hummed, placing her hand under her chin in contemplation. "Maybe we could start with your history. Maybe that's what she meant, you're to explain your past." She suggested. "I mean, depression itself is simple enough considering you can get information of it in books but only you can explain your past in full detail."

"Ha, ha ha ha..." Jason laughed awkwardly and rolled his eyes in embarrassment. "Yeah... my past... sure..."

Guren smiled in accusation. "You don't want to talk about it now do you?"

Jason sighed and nodded. "Yeah... it's not something I like talking about."

Guren looked at Jason in the eye, the soft light of the morning sun shining warm and bright. Being a Gardevoir, Guren has the natural ability to sense emotions and she could tell Jason doesn't feel fine about sharing. "Well, shall we eat breakfast then?" she suggested with a warm caring smile.

Jason took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, I'd like that." Jason answered. Guren nodded back and gestured for the dining hall. The two walked together back, neither starting a conversation whatsoever although Jason really wanted to. "Um, Guren-chan, can we talk more about this later... when I sort my thoughts?"

Guren nodded with delight. "Of course." She answered. "Just don't force yourself... you don't really have to do this."

Jason shook his head. "No... if there's anything Sarah's taught me: it's best to let your feelings out." Jason answered. "I HAVE to do this... I can't keep all these feelings clashing inside."

"Okay, well... don't push yourself too hard m'kay?" Guren suggested, placing her hand over Jason's shoulder.

"Don't worry Guren-chan." Jason answered. "I know my limits."

The two went back to the campsite and joined the group in the breakfast gathering. Everyone sat around the table, eating, sharing stories and laughs. Raiki, a Luxray, sat next to Guren. Guren was Raiki's only source of joy and he was determined to keep her safe, although he can get carried away sometimes. Jason sat on his chair, eating whatever it was that he found appetizing and was contemplating on how he was to explain his past with Guren. His past wasn't something he'd enjoy talking about, especially since it's full of suffering and torment, so Jason was thinking of how he could tell the story without making himself break down.

Soon after everyone had parted was, Jason was left alone on the table in deep contemplation. Guren felt the heavy atmosphere surrounding Jason, she felt that Jason didn't feel all too happy with delving into his past. Slowly, she approached the troubled Lucario.

"Jason-kun..." she sat on the chair next to Jason. "...really, you don't have to do this."

Jason turned his gaze towards Guren, gave her a warm reassuring smile and shook his head. "No, it's alright. I'm fine." Jason shifted in his seat and moved in closer towards Guren. "I guess it's safe to say that it bests starts with my friend at school, Damion..."

Jason started to narrate his past; his time at school, how he was never able to fit in and how Damion was the only one who accepted him for who he was. With Damion's help, Jason was able to muster the courage to actually be the one to start conversations. Soon, Jason was able to gather a decent amount of friends, friends who would stay by his side no matter what. Although Jason knew that his feelings towards Damion would be important information, he didn't bring that up to Guren fearing that she might get disgusted by a gay relationship.

"Wow, you and Damion-kun sound really close." Guren smiled and turned her gaze towards the sunlit sky, the sweet scent of the forest morning breeze blew through the open windows of the hall filling the room with a serene feeling. "To be hondest, I really, REALLY feel like you and Raiki-kun would get along well... if only he'd fix his personality."

"Well, this is where my life gets horrible..." Jason mumbled as his gaze dropped to the table. "Damion and I were a pretty cool tag team during combat training. We were able to cover each other's weaknesses... most of them at least... and it made me and Damion really proud of ourselves..." his voice trailed off as tears began to well up inside as that horrid memory rushed back in his mind.

"There was an attack in our city, a group of rouges started ransacking the place. Damion and I, even though we were told not to, joined in the defense and started taking out our own set of rogues." Jason let out a teary chuckle as the eventful moment of happiness flashed in his mind. "Then... this one rogue showed up... a Luxray..."

"Uh oh..." Sarah said. "will this affect your view of Raiki-kun?"

Jason shook his head. "No... I understand that I shouldn't vent my anger out on the species... I know that I don't have to harbour hatred towards the luxrays, each is his own man and not everyone is evil."

Guren closed her eyes in admiration of Jason's answer. "Oh, I drew your attention away from the story... please, continue."

"Well..." tears began to reappear at the horrid memory. "I immediately felt that the luxray was stronger than we were... far stronger... so Damion and I ran away. But the rogue was ruthless, he followed us slowly and menacingly and... dropped and immense bolt of lightning above us hitting Damion square at the back... I survived, but... Damion... didn't..."

"Ouch..." Guren gasped at the shocking revelation. "I'm... so sorry..." she placed her hand over Jason's shoulder in sympathy.

Jason nodded, acknowledging Guren's support. "After that, I went into deep depression. I barely did anything but hang out by the lake, our favorite spot back when he was alive. I'd spend my whole day sitting under the shade of the tree, remembering all our moments together, skipping stones all by myself... and the worst part was pretending that he was still by my side."

"Why's that the worst part?" Guren asked.

"I was never able to let him go, I refused to believe that he was gone..." Jason answered. "What Sarah meant by 'my mind is slowly deteriorating' was that I was slowly going crazy. Hallucinating that Damion was still by my side, that he was still alive, my mind slowly formed an alternate reality."

"Wow..." Guren stared in amazement, although inappropriate it may be, Jason's case was a really curious find for her. "when does Sarah-chan come in?"

"One day as I sat under the tree, hallucinating and daydreaming, Sarah called my attention and asked for my help." Jason grabbed a glass of water and took a sip, he didn't realize how exhausting it felt to reminisce on the past. "You see, she is from a town, the sister-town of Avalon, named Arkha. She moved to Avalon 'cause she felt that Arkha was losing its charm. She asked for my help in touring her around Avalon, snapping me out of my self-pity. Soon, Sarah and I began hanging out frequently. She later became my new best friend and soon... she and I were in a relationship."

Guren felt happiness, immense happiness, welling up inside her. "That's great... but then what happened?"

"That very same rogue, the very same luxray, happened." Frustration was evident in his voice, but it slowly died down. "He and his band of rogues attacked the city once more. Sarah evolved into a Gardevoir a few months before that so her psychic capabilities have immensely improved. I also managed to evolve into a Lucario making my combat capabilities improve greatly as well. Sarah and I fought side by side like two pros, cutting down the numbers of the rogues by the minute, then the luxray arrived. During that time, Sarah and I were overwhelmed by the number of the rogues, she and I were separated with about a platoon of rogues between us. I don't know what his problem is, he just seems to want my life to turn into a living nightmare. He chose Sarah as his target, he fought Sarah viciously and saw to it that the fight lasts long and the pain at its peak. He tormented Sarah with his rusty cutlass in front of my eyes, and his band of rogues kept me from going to Sarah's aid. In the end, the luxray ordered the retreat, leaving Sarah at the verge of death, just alive enough for me to see his gruesome work..."

"That's... that's horrible..." Guren commented.

Jason clenched his fist in frustration at the memory of Sarah's torment. He remembered how the luxray viciously slashed with his rusty old cutlass, he remembered the bloodthirsty look in the luxray's eyes, he remembered Sarah screaming in pain and begging for mercy...

"Jason-kun, your hand!" Guren jumped in surprise as Jason's fist caught fire.

Jason was startled by the sudden ignition of a flame and he quickly extinguished the fire. "Sorry... that happens sometimes when I get too mad..." he stared at his hand and slowly cursed his inability to control his fire affinity properly. "Hope I didn't scare you too much."

"No, not at all." Guren sat back down and fixed the position of her chair. "I just thought that you were on fire. I mean, the fire that would hurt you, but it seems that you don't feel pain from them so... it's amazing that you're capable of that."

Jason felt a little embarrassed that he lost control again, though he was glad the damage was little to none considering the charred mark on the table. "Thanks..."

"By the way, Raiki-kun was thinking that he and I walk together through the forest." Guren stood up and fixed the ruffles on her shirt. "Maybe you'd want to tag along or something, get to know Raiki-kun a little better."

Jason smiled at the invitation, tempted to accept it. "Nah, I think I need some time to myself..." Jason shook his head, returned his attention towards Guren and gave her a small bow. "Thanks for the offer though."

Guren seemed a little disappointed with Jason's response, but she pushed that aside. "Well, maybe some other time then." She bowed in respect before she departed. "Enjoy the rest of your day Jason-kun."

"Um... Guren-chan, wait." Jason raced towards Guren hoping to catch up to her before she left the hall.

Guren turned around in surprise as Jason ran to her side. "What is it?" she asked.

"I just wanted to say... thanks for listening to my story." Jason smiled with his cheeks slightly shaded with red. "It... it's really a huge burden off of my chest now that I've shared my story."

Guren smiled back and placed her hand on Jason's shoulder reassuringly. "No problem Jason-kun, anytime."

With that, Guren left Jason to himself inside the dining hall. Jason felt as if a ton of bricks was removed from his chest. He felt it easier to breath now, he felt the tension fade away, the stress evaporate into non-existence, he felt free.
