#21 of Hockey Hunk Season 5

*

Hello,

chocolate chip cookies, it's time for another chapter - whoooooot! It might've been a busy week for me, writing commissions, but thankfully that hasn't taken me away from what's truly important - writing good, warm, meaningful stories, such as The Hockey Hunk - and boy, am I inspired or what? I've been purring diabolically for a couple of days now with ideas that are going to shape the story for seasons to come, I feel...which is grrrreeeat!

But indeed, now it's still back to that fun little Saturday in July, 2011...and as always, I look forward to your comments and other feedback - it helps others to find these stories to enjoy as well!

Have a fun read!

"Ahhh, there you are!"

"What's up here, dad?" I asked upon my entry into the kitchen, with Victor in tow, well, more like, shadowing me, literally, almost, with his bulk, behind me, surely taking in the sight of my dad sitting down on the table with a big tub of full-cream chocolate chip ice cream in front of him.

"Well, I just felt like some ice cream, and I hate eating it alone," dad explained with a catty smirk, waving the ice scream scoop in his paw.

"He wants to say, I'll nag to him if I catch him," mom added, standing by one of the kitchen cabinets and taking out bowls, "and you know what your dad's like, Rory..."

I rubbed my muzzle during my observation of dad's wannabe gluttony and mom's chastising of him, and wondered if something like this happened often in the Holden household too, with all the siblings visiting at once...now that'd probably be...hmm...loud.

"It's a good source of Calcium," dad opined, giving her a look and a purr.

"In your dreams," mom replied.

"Well I'd definitely like some, if I may!" Victor boomed from behind me.

I gave him a quick glance and saw that he was smiling, quite genuinely, based on how his ears looked like, in my non-expert opinion at least. You could a lot by someone's ears, but it was often very much character-specific, and....I didn't know all of him yet.

"That's my boy!" dad declared with a ceremonial wave of his paw. "Come on, let's polish off some of this before the girls get to it! You know they only want it for themselves and that's why they won't let us have it..."

Dad....what?

What?

"Sure do, sir!" Victor smiled as he swooshed past me and headed for the table.

Since when was I a girl...

*pout*

Mom was purring as she put the bowls to the table and added some spoons from the nearby drawer, smiling and flicking her tail behind her as she did so. I slid onto a chair next to Victor who was already sitting down with a bowl and looking eager for the ice cream. My cheeks were kinda...burning, now, though thankfully my ears didn't feel too pink yet...at least I wasn't sure they were...maybe I should keep them down a bit, I thought...but that'd send the wrong message...

...but daaaad...

Oh, God....did...did parents think about that sort of thing, I thought quietly, my tail bobbing against the floor while I wondered on the topic, while mom put a bowl and a spoon in front of me, and I heard dad ask Victor how much ice cream he wanted...

...did my dad think that I was a...girl...in the relationship? Did I have girly mannerisms, was I effeminate...at least in comparison to the macho Dobie expecting his chocolate cream treat, all handsome and bulging muscles under fur-licking shirt sleeves and that playful yet masculine doggie muzzle and that easy-going attitude that was making my parents fall for him hard, who didn't even seem to remember that he was actually their gay son's gay boyfriend and his lover and if I was to believe dad's joke, they also thought that he was the one who wore the pants in the relationship.

Maybe I was just overthinking it, though, even if the idea did nag on the back of my mind a little, even when I accepted two and a half scoops of creamy, slightly melting ice cream onto my bowl, which dad provided with a professional flick of his wrist. I thanked him with a mumble and picked up my spoon.

"Hmmm...delicious!" Victor declared.

Well, he was athletic, confident, charming, nice-smelling, manly, business-like and handsome in all sorts of right ways...if I was...Rhonda Gliese, I'm sure he'd make a model husband...but...but...but...

"Just one scoop for me, please," mom said as she took a position next to dad, smiling serenely at the sight of Victor devouring his ball of chocolate chip ice cream.

"Coming right up!"

At least I took more...surely my portion was man-sized...I peeped at dad's bowl, which had four total scoops...another glimpse told me that Victor had...five...damn...should I ask for more, prove that...

Oh fuck, I thought, now that was just getting ridiculous. Masculinity wasn't measured in how much ice cream you could gorge down your gullet. So what if I didn't want to eat more of it? There was a huge dinner coming up, I didn't want to lose my ability to ambulate freely due to having my stomach full to the bursting point.

Well, that really had nothing to do with anything. I just couldn't shake away the thought that maybe my mom and dad thought that I was the girl in this relationship, whether it meant...personality...standing...or...well, I couldn't even fathom the idea of the two sitting around this very same table, probably with tea mugs in their paws and going...

"So, do you think that our son's...you know..."

"Oh, sweetie, I don't know...but...you know how the bigger one is usually the one who..."

"...yes, that's what the brochures say..."

"...I just hope that they remember to use condoms..."

"Oh, I hope so...but you know that Rory is very responsible..."

"I'd hope so too, sweetie..."

"Could I have some more fig cake, please?"

"Oh, here you go, sweetie."

Ugh. No, I don't think my parents thought about what I did in the bedroom....I sure as hell didn't hope so...that'd be too embarrassing...hell, even Cobb hadn't asked me if I was the one who took it up the butt...or suggested that his brother did...oh, that ought to remind me to never ask Victor if Cobb ever asked him...I had a hunch that surely he would have...

But to think about it all, I don't think I ever met a couple as egalitarian as mom and dad, I mean, it must've been pretty...new and all that, starting with the 80's and all that, indeed, since mom and dad had always shared responsibilities at work and home...working and...and shopping, and mom doing such a stereotypically manly job, and wielding a gun and driving a police car, and dad never shying from changing the diapers...I...I suppose they'd really ingrained it in me that relationships were about equals and...I'd never even thought that it could be any different with Victor. Sure he was bigger than me physically and sure he made more money than me and he was confident and protective, but...but there wasn't really any kind of a division of...damn...roles...I wasn't a damsel in distress...

...I might've known it, but did mom and dad know? Did they think about it? Did they want to think about it? Could they have such a stereotypical view of male to male relationships that they thought....but...anyway, we were just dating yet, it wasn't like we were planning a mortgage together...we were doing good with what we were doing...

"Did you boys have a refreshing nap?" mom asked after we'd spent a few minutes murmuring and sucking down ice cream, and I'd been fuming in my head over being called the girl...poooo...

"Sure," I smiled, "really nice after lunch."

"It was quite nice, thank you!" Victor smiled, so broadly that I was surprised there wasn't a comical light effect and a loud "PLINK!" sound to go with that, on the corner of his muzzle.

"Were you guys talking about something, too?" mom continued oh ever so innocently.

Damn...so they did hear Victor shouting on the phone...fantastic...I glanced at him, but he didn't seem to be too shaken up by the implication...guess he was used to Cobb managing to mix things up, even from a distance like some evil puppetmaster...next he'd probably burst in wearing a Captain Kirk mask...

"My brother phoned, actually," Victor mused, his lips covered in ice cream that was hard not to just lick away...hmmm...Dobie kisses...

"The one with the gifts?" dad questioned.

"Cobb, yeah," Victor nodded, "he was having some trouble with something and he always calls me first...and he's kinda passionate...I'm sure you heard some raised voices..."

Heh...at least mom and dad had the grace of looking guilty now, having been caught eavesdropping like that...it was fun, in a naughty way, to see their ears flick...surely their tails were being tucked, too, even if that wasn't immediately visible.

Also, geezz, Victor, calling Cobb passionate was something like the understatement of the year.

"Is that a family trait?" Dad asked.

Victor gave me a look. I raised my brows just a little to him, and looked at mom and dad again.

"We shout too, don't we?" I smiled a little.

"I suppose everyone does at some point," Victor said.

"We've always tried not to, unless it's necessary," dad mused.

"Though sometimes it is necessary...," mom added.

Yeah...

"I'm sure Rory's been on the receiving end of that a few times," Victor smirked. "He's got character alright."

Oh snap...

My brain did just NOT think what it did when Victor said _receiving..._I almost dropped my spoon!

"Weeell...." dad started.

Time to play the game of "Embarrass Rory!" again?

"Sure," I hurried to speak.

"Well of course Rory had his moments..." mom proposed.

"But everyone does, don't they?" dad questioned.

"Sure," Victor agreed eagerly.

"There was the time when Rory wanted to try dyeing his head furs..." mom spoke with exaggeratedly slow thoughtfulness.

Victor chuckled and gave me a look.

"And when was that?" he stated.

I felt my ears droop a little, but decided to persevere.

"High school," I said," I got the grand idea that some red highlights would be cool."

"So he goes and buys a packet of the stuff and locks himself in the bathroom..." dad continued the familiar story, as if we'd rehearsed it beforehand, or something, he was that good with the timing.

Oh what the hell, I could play this one out for the laughs...I thought...as I scratched the side of my muzzle and tried to act aloof...and probably failing...

"And I had no idea what I was doing, really..." I mused, "and when the stuff...well...when things didn't go like they meant to be, I locked myself in the bathroom..."

"And we had a shouting match through the door," dad continued, "I threatened to call mom..."

Mom outright snickered now.

"Then I did come from work, and there was a disaster going on here..."

"With Rory locked up in the bathroom and acting up..."

"...and trying to wash the dye away, but it wouldn't go, and the bathroom looked like someone had been dismembered there..."

"That bad?" Victor's ears flicked curiously.

"I spilled the stuff everywhere," I said.

"Hahah," Victor chuckled.

"Rory was rather embarrassed by the time he finally opened the door," mom said, "and needed a new cut to his head furs because that stuff wasn't coming off..."

I was damn glad there wasn't photo evidence of that laying around...I'd made sure not to submit to being photographed looking like that.

"And I did end up being even more ridiculous than I would have been with red highlights," I replied, fingers tugging on my mane, "and I was grounded for a month."

"Rory could've always asked for help, too," mom said, "but he was too shy..."

I bet this was the moment when the audience either erupted in laughter or went AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! in sitcoms...I didn't feel like doing either. Mom and dad were enjoying this almost too much, I suspected, and Victor...well, he was grinning widely...almost...dare I say...Cobb-like...

"So would've you actually let Rory dye his head furs?" he asked.

Mom giggled.

"Back then?" she said. "No, I don't think so...but thinking now...I did have an afro do when I was that age..."

"And I had a mullet..." dad added.

Argh...the idea...the idea...the memories...

"Well I'm not going to dye my hairs right now," I hurried to say before sinking a big spoonful of ice cream into my muzzle.

"I like them the way they look now just fine," Victor smiled and...oh...he didn't...yes he did...ruffled my head furs.

I blushed under that public display of affection a bit more than I probably should have, brief as it was, and innocent, I suppose, I mean...even a straight guy could've technically ruffled a friend's head furs...but...no...I guess it was more when they knew that we were...

"Awwww," mom mommed.

Dad looked just a tad...surprised was the word, I guess, and I hoped we hadn't turned him off this entire idea of gay relationships, but he did clear up his throat and look over at mom.

"Say, did someone mention some coffee?" dad pouted a little.

"Are you proposing me something, Mark?" mom flicked her ears at him.

"Maybe," he squinted while smiling in a sickly sweet manner.

Mom blew him a kiss and got up from her seat.

"You take how many cups, Victor?" she asked. "I know what everyone else drinks but..."

"Maybe...two moderately sized ones?" Victor suggested.

Mom giggled while she headed over to the coffeemaker.

"This is turning into a right Starbucks..."

"Can I help you in any way, Patricia?" Victor asked.

Oh meow...what next...a footrub? A serenade?

"Oh, nonsense!" mom continued the routine they had going on, it seemed. "This'll only take a minute. Nice to have a hot cuppa before I'll start on dinner."

"We're starting, right?" dad said. "I promised to help...."

"We can help too..." I said.

"We can!" Victor said, stealing my thunder.

"Oh, you boys just relax for now," mom said in a 50's housewife voice, or so it seemed, "there's still more beer too..."

"We won't be able to move soon if we keep eating and drinking," I said.

"You can afford it," mom said, "when you're still your age, you can eat and eat and eat and it doesn't all instantly go to the hips like on my age...same goes for you too, Victor...you look fantastic!"

"Why, thank you, Patricia!" he said.

Please don't compliment her looks, please don't compliment her looks, please don't...

"Oh you sweet thing!" mom giggled some more when she went to pour the water.

Victor Holden...sweet as a big bar of lactose free milk chocolate...possibly with little bits of mints in it...or raisins...or nuts...

At least the front door opened and closed with a bang then, offering some distraction.

"IN THE KITCHEN, JUSTIN!" dad bellowed out.

I was sure I heard paws going upstairs before they faltered and the noise approached here instead, my brother soon crashing from the door to the hall.

"Well there you are!" mom said. "Back like we told you should be!"

"Meh," he shrugged as his paws slipped into his pockets and he adopted a particularly bad posture as a result, because the pants were saggy enough. "Matt had to go home..."

"Enjoyed hanging out with your friends, Justin?" Victor asked most politely.

"It was okay," Justin replied, "wassup here?"

"Well we were having ice cream, there is some for you too," dad flicked his tail in the direction of the freezer, "though you shouldn't eat too much or you'll lose your appetite."

"What's for dinner?" Justin asked, coming out of his teenaged shell at the prospect of food, at least.

"I've got three entire chickens marinating and waiting to be cooked," mom said. "And I'll soon start on everything else."

"Cool," Justin said.

"You came home just right to help with it," mom said, "you can chop potatoes for the salad."

He snuffled.

"I was more thinking of going to my room..."

"Justin..."
