#35 of Legacy of the Veiled Stars

Not much is known about the Second Banished War, being mostly shadowed by the Third Banished War, but it was a costly war that made the civilizations of Canidera and Lutracha realize that they will have to take the defenses of their own race to a serious level of commitment. Radical actions can lead to resentment and retaliation.

The Second Banished Wars

Banishing all the aggressive reptilian races was viewed as a radical solution. However, with the shock and devastation felt by the reptilian races' actions, their banishment was met with little resistance. The mass exodus was carefully monitored as the reptilians, innocent and guilty alike, were forced from their homes to be sent off into the unknown stars. All military technology was taken from the reptilians, and they were granted only the technology that they'd need to survive.

Few records had existed that recorded the exodus but from those records, we have determined some of the details. Felt more than any emotion by the exiled was the fear of not knowing what lay ahead of them. While fear dominated much of their life during the generation-long trip, an anger was sown into them as well. This anger was not directed at those responsible for the atrocities that had befallen on the Lutrachan and Canideran civilizations, but instead this anger was directed at the Lutrachans and Caniderans themselves. Blame was placed on those who had defeated them.

This behavior was widely accepted and only fueled the aggressiveness of the reptilian races the closer they got to their new home, Velmaria.

Shocked by what had happened on their planets, the civilizations of Lutracha and Canidera grew determined to never allow it to happen again. Through study of the war, they continued to develop more efficient defenses. While they continued to predict outcomes what may be required in the future to defend themselves, these civilizations have only had one experience with war and found it difficult to build the defenses required.

After the first Banished Wars, it changed the societies of the civilizations. While many of them had fought together, and a great migration between the planets had begun, they never were able to be so peaceful again. Caution had invaded many of them, creating fear where it had not existed before. Fear of the sound of machinery was common, knowing what weaponized machines have done to them during the First Banished War. Several years had passed, and most either forgot their fears or learned to live with it. With populations mingling, peace continued for many years.

The shame of defeat of the reptilians however would come back to haunt the peaceful civilizations on the habitable planets of the Huli system. Several generations later, using adapted technology of the very ships that were used to exile them, the reptilians returned and began to pirate on the space faring ships of the sister planets. Battle taking place beyond the planets' atmospheres was something that the civilizations did not expect, but before they could invent a counter to this method of pirating, the reptilians had launched a full invasion using the ships that they have stolen.

This war was by all accounts worse than the previous war, with battles being raged across both planets. To combat the reptilians again, Lutrachan scientists started to developed war ships to fight beyond the orbits of the planets. Satellite weapons were also developed and soon large scale battles were taking place in the vacuum of space.

The reptilians that had returned took to calling themselves Velmarians, naming themselves after the name of their new planet that they call home. Through their aggressive tactics and weapons that they had recreated, the Velmarians had prepared for war ever since the first Banished War, to reclaim their homelands on Lutracha. However, they're ambition did not stop there as it was evident they sought to take control of the Huli system and all its inhabitants.

Cities had once again turned into war zones, and even uninhabitable places such as the moons of the sister planets had seen signs of battle. While the Velmarian tactics on the ground and grown more aggressive and effective, the cunning of the Lutrachans had developed new ways to fight using the warships they had built. With victories rising in the battles over the planets' surfaces, the war slowly started to turn in their favor. These space battles crossed the stars and even ventured into the Velmarian new home system, where their military reserve was halted and defeated.

In the Huli system, the battles continue to wage on the surface of both planets. Some cities were destroyed as a result of orbital bombing. A Velmarian operation base was discovered on the small planet of Fellorian, and when this base was destroyed, the Velmarian opposition became disorganized.

Cut off from Velmaria, and their reserves engaging in battle on a home front, the Velmarians could provide minimal resistance. This effectively turned the war, and allowed for the unified forces of Lutracha and Canidera to defeat the remaining Velmarians. Surrender was never considered by the Velmarians, which led to many of their deaths but the sister planets' forces had subdued the survivors and the war had ended.

While the Lutrachans and Caniderans had prepared to defend themselves, the new evolved form of war had caught them off guard. Having suffered in generations past, the civilizations had learned that they would need to always be prepared. Thus, the sister planets created the first standard military in their history, and began to train and raise new generations for the purpose of defending their planets.

An unexpected outcome of the war was a positive experience though. The battles on Fellorian had led to the discovery of more of their species. With the same species of them being discovered on three separate planets was very bizarre but with these new races being the same as the Lutrachans and Caniderans, the civilization soon integrated into one civilization across three planets.

The remaining Velmarians were sent back to their planet, and all communication was terminated between the Velmarians those who lived on the planets in the Huli system. No one heard from the Velmarians again, until they attacked for the third time.
