The Lone Human

Chapter 1:

I honestly didn't know what to think about the orphanage that I was going to. Sorry I forgot about introductions, my name is Matthew Gunn and my parents died when our ship crashed ashore on this strange land a few weeks back, on this island there were people who were different, they are what us humans called anthro (people who were part human and part animal). Anyway a family took me in for a couple of weeks until I gained my strength back, they eventually told me that they couldn't support me because I am different so they sent me to a local orphanage which I am walking into right now.

"Hello Matthew" said a dragoness lady who worked there. "Hello ma'am "I replied, I liked her, she was the only one who greeted me like an actual person instead of some freak. "I just need to ask a few questions before we settle you in ok?" I nodded, "Ok are you a carnivore or herbivore?" she asked, "I can eat both meat and vegetables plus fruit so I am an omnivore" I answered. The look on her face made it almost impossible to laugh but I managed to hold it in. "ok, are you ok with sharing a room with other kids or do you want your own room?", "I am fine with having roommates", "ok let's get you settled in". She took me down one of the many corridors and stopped and the tenth door. I was a little nervous because I was only ten and I told her that. She told me not to worry because my new roommates were the same age as me but that didn't stop my fears. "Boys you have a new roommate"," Cool" they replied.

So I step in the room while hefting my backpack, I was faced with a wolf, fox and a husky. By the looks on their faces you would think they had saw the devil himself, their jaws practically hit the ground. "Hello" I greeted, me being in the room shocked them, then actually speaking to them made their closing jaws hit the ground again, I couldn't help but snicker. "Ma'am what is that thing?", "Watch you words young one, he has every right to be called a person as much as you and me!", "Sorry", their tails went down in submission. After I had gotten settled I laid out on the bed studying the locket which was the only possession I had that had pictures and writing of parents in it. I noticed them looking at them out of the corner of my eye, so I snapped my head in their direction. The fox practically hit his head on the roof with the jump he made. I grinned, "I guess we should get acquainted, my name is Matthew Gunn, what are yours?" I asked. They looked at each other and then the fox went first, "My n-name is d-Digs Bushytail" he said in a timid voice. The others introduced themselves, the husky's name was Bones Walfur and the wolves named was Fang Wilddog.

After a few minutes they started to finally accept me as an equal. I am surprised how well I get along with them, we basically have the same interests, things like comics and video games and other stuff. Although they are slight variations of things, like how Iron Man is Iron Cat and The Avengers is The Furvengers but they basically have the same storyline. Anyway we are all headed to the mess hall for some food, but sadly in everyplace there is always the bullies. When we went through the door automatically some guy threw a slice of pizza at me, somehow I managed to catch it and I looked at it and saw it had no bite or teeth marks so I looked at the person who threw it, I smiled and said "Thank you for the food mate!". The person gave me the most pissed off look I have ever seen in my life, I mean come on, like next time don't throw a non-touched pizza slice at someone if they are hungry and he must be really mad that it didn't hit me and that I had turned the joke on him. Everyone started laughing at him but I didn't really care because I was hungry. I walked up to the buffet area and one of the workers stopped me and said "Sorry but pets aren't allowed in here". I looked him straight in the eye and he flinched so I continued to fill up my tray. "HEY I SAID PETS AREN'T ALLOWED IN HERE" he shouted in my ear. "But he is an orphan here mister" said Bones, Fang and Digs. Dam I had completely forgotten they were there. "This is an orphan and is civilised" the worker said with laughter. "How about if you leave me alone!" I said to him. He practically hit the ceiling when I spoke, in fact he started backing away as if I was going to beat him up-no he actually ran out the room more like, am I really that scary? I never really thought about it.

Anyway we loaded our trays and sat down at a table near the back of the room. Everyone was staring at me because of that incident and it was really annoying me. Then there was a shadow across my food and I looked up and met the eyes of the anthro who threw the pizza at me. He was a coyote with pure sand-blonde fur, "You and me have a problem to deal with" he said, I looked around and sighed, "What did I do? Did I foil your plans to humiliate me or something?" I asked in a sarcastic tone which ticked him off even more. "Stand up and fight me you runt" He yelled. So I stood up after all what else I could I do, we both put our fists up and stared at each other waiting for the other person to make the first move..... To Be Continued
