Chapter 1

I've often wondered if your life had this higher purpose that would bring a great change. This one singular drive to do something that nobody to date has ever tried in history. My name is Devin Sentry and my life story will soon follow these very lines of destiny. The job I have is with on of the largest genetics corporation in the U.S. Funded by not only the military but, various medical companies as well.

My story begins on a warm August morning when I signed onto to my computer. When my supervisor came into the room took one look at me and stormed right over. I'll be honest I still don't have any clue as to why I deserve all this harassment. Though ever since he got promoted last year his ego out grew his skull. He loves the fact of being able to boss everybody around without catching flak.

Naturally I'm also due for a promotion which really singled me out with William. As he walked over to my desk, he instantly demanded for last night's progress reports. I didn't say anything to him I simply did as he asked and downloaded the information. It was going to take a while to load so I had it sent directly to his computer. "Well, Devin where the hell is it I don't have all day." He barked.

"I've sent the files you've asked for, straight to your computer it should be done shortly." I informed him. He picked up on my less than pleased tone of voice just as Rebecca Fiero walked in. "Morning, Devin how are you this morning?" She asked as walked towards her desk. The look I gave her said more than words alone could describe as she sat down. "Like I've said several times before, William sees you as a threat, Devin." She replied.

She turned on her computer then logged in before William saw us talking. As I looked around I saw him and the project manager standing close by discussing things. He was clearly doing everything he could to get put in charge of everything here. That ego maniac would simply love to have the authority to fire anyone he saw fit. See he's got to have something pretty compelling to receive that privilege.

Though if I know him he doesn't have anything worthwhile to show the project manager. Unlike him I've been doing a lot more than just our current projects and work load. I've been secretly working on a special kind of project that's of my own design. If my calculations are correct it will be able to re-grow severely damage body parts. Honestly it may even have other capabilities that I might not be aware of yet.

Sadly there are still quite a few bugs I need to work out before a field can been attempted. The main issues are time and strain on the patient, while the repairs are being performed. I need to find a way of keeping the patient asleep for extended periods of time. While the fluid takes all the time it requires to repair the damage limbs or organs. As for the machine that'll house everything that's already been built.

The fluid is still under going some tweaks and has yet to be actually created in the lab. There's only one person that knows about this and has been a consultant for me. Her medical knowledge has proven invaluable to me since I first started this project. With Rebecca's continued help I have no doubt this will be an amazing breakthrough. Our current project is to finish mapping the human genome map and there's only 4% left.

Though I've got a feeling what the rest is but, I don't have any solid evidence yet. If given plenty of time I'm pretty confident I can unlock those secrets with little trouble. Of course that's if William can stay off my back long enough to finish the job. I'll be perfectly honest I have no idea why he believes I stole his sole called thunder. When all I did was politely point out something he over looked during his research.

Naturally that didn't endear me too well with him so I keep my opinions to myself. As I kept working the project manager left and William came walking towards me. To be honest if he keeps this crap up I'm going to something very worthy of being fired over. "Hey, Devin stop what you're doing and do this instead, if you want to keep job." He stated handing me a piece of paper. Taking it from him and looked at what was on it then I handed it back to him.

"You've got two perfectly good legs William get off your own high horse and do it yourself. Instead of barking orders at those who are doing far more important things." I stated returning the note. While he got ready to go off his little tirade I speed dialed the head of the department. I put it on speaker just as William began to voice his disapproval. "Devin, log off and go home you're suspended for two weeks without pay." He remarked.

"News flash, William you didn't get promoted and if I were you I'd play nice." I replied. Of course that set him off like a bomb as he started issuing all sorts of threats. "I think you've said quite enough William now get your butt to my office." Bruce said over the speaker. William looked down at my desk and saw what I had done. As his gaze met with mine again he went to say something but, instead he walked away.

"Oh, William enjoy your quality time with the boss." I smiled as he left the room. About thirty minutes later, Bruce showed up for the first time in a good while. I found it rather strange to actually see him down here so must have something important to say. "May I have your attention please, Mr. Vales, will no longer be working here. So until a replacement is found I'll be supervising operations for the time being." He began.

"Unless there's somebody here that has something really worth wild to share with me?" He wondered. Nobody really had anything that would really interest him until Rebecca spoke up. "Bruce, Devin has something that might be of interest to you." Rebecca remarked. Of course I wasn't happy about being put in the spot light like that. "Is what she said true Devin?" He asked as he directed his attention on me.

"Yes, sir I do the thing is but, unfortunately the project is a major work in progress." I replied. He smiled then slowly walked over to where I sat then asked for my seat. So I got up after pulling up my private project on the computer screen. As he read over all the data I gathered from start to finish, I had this bad feeling. The reason for it was that Bruce wasn't going to approve of my project.

After ten minutes I asked Bruce for his true thoughts on what he read on my computer. "This data is amazing I've never seen such complex work in my entire career. I think you should be promoted to the lead R&D facility in southern, Montana." He replied. At that instant I was at a complete loss for words as my jaw hung wide open. It just seemed like a dream as Bruce kept reading over the data on the computer screen.

"You're joking the project is good but, far from being perfect in any sense of the word. There's still a couple of years needed before I can even begin testing this." I pointed out. Bruce could see my hesitation but, he's never come across anything like this before. "Devin, listen the new facility will be done within the month. It's going to be outfitted with all state of the art technology and equipment." He began turning around.

"I'm positive that if you go there, you'll be able to finish your work in half the time. Especially with all the latest technology at your fingertips and I have no doubts that you'll succeed." He stated with a smile. Once again I was left speechless standing before him as he stood up. By the time I was able to find words to express myself with. Bruce had somehow anticipated what I going to say and said he handle it.

That in the meantime I should get everyone that wanted to tag along up to speed. With that said he excused himself while everybody else gathered around my desk. As I sat back down behind my computer my mind was still trying to process everything. While everybody waited for me to regain my senses and briefed them on my project. "So boss care to fill us in on what you've got there on the computer?" Curtis asked.

I shook my head then printed out several copies of the project for everyone to read. Rebecca happily sorted out the pages then handed everyone that wanted a copy. "Devin, this bio fluid has large number of possibilities. Though I'm curious at to what's the main purpose if this stuff if I'm not being too bold?" Margret asked curiously. Honestly I wasn't totally sure what this fluid can and couldn't do yet.

"Too be honest I'm not sure yet, considering what I've come up with so far." I stated. Scott suggested taking the practice runs one little test at a time to see what works. "I agree with you though, I've yet to mix the chemicals and that'll be awhile. Granted, we do have enough chemicals handy for about gallon of the special fluid." I informed. Jade mentioned making a batch so we'd have something to show, Bruce.

"No, argument there Jade trust me but, the essential compound is a tad unstable. Relax, everyone this ingredient isn't radioactive which is a huge relief I assure you. Though before anybody asks this compound was the very first thing I created. Without it the other chemicals won't mix and would just sit on top of each other." I informed. Rebecca asked if this special element I've mentioned had a name of some kind.

"Well Rebecca, it's called, Undanium in short terms, liquid energized metal." I replied. Curtis and a few others had a lot of question on the element itself which I was happy to share. "You don't have to worry too much about it when it comes to direct contact. This metal has no boiling point and it can be chilled then worked like typical steel. The cool thing is it can withstand what ever you decide to throw at it." I stated.

"Could you elaborate on that a little more Devin for those of us that aren't savvy?" Margret said with a smirk. "Sure, as I've said before this metal once frozen and forged into let's say into a shield. You can utilize everything the military has available and it won't even leave a scratch." I remarked. "Will, it take damage from itself?" Hank inquired. "To put it bluntly if you were wearing it you wouldn't feel a thing." I stated.

"So what about other metals and light weight composite materials is there any difference?" Jade asked. "Hmm, I'll be perfectly honest it'd be like walking through an open door." I replied calmly. Everyone's curiosity seemed to be quelled for the time being at least. The rest of the day went without much trouble as we resumed our projects. During the afternoon everyone spent a bit more time going over my work.

I was amazed by all their questions which I was more than happy to answer them. They couldn't believe how much I had done without drawing any attention to myself. As the end of the day drew near Bruce called me up to his office just before closing time. First I signed off my computer punched out then walked up to his office. Once there I politely knocked on the door and waited for him to allow me inside.

"Please, come on in, Devin and have a seat." He said through the closed doors. Opening the door I walked inside the large office and took a seat nearby the desk. "Well, the main reason I had you come by to know who's tagging along with you?" He asked. My response was simple that I was leaving that decision up to the others. Bruce told me that once they've made up their minds to let him know ASAP.

My only other concern was the board of directors, which he assured me not to worry about. With a polite slap on the back we said our goodbyes then went our separate ways. I headed for the parking lot, while Bruce went elsewhere in the facility. From there I got in my car then drove all the way back home near the wildlife preserve. After grabbing the mail I went inside my home then made some dinner and went to bed shortly after.

To be continued.
