The Drifter Chapter Four: Long Road Through The Desert

Well things in Desert Junction ended as best they could. Here I was riding my bike through the desert in a newly acquired outfit, leaving that town behind. Ahead of my was the empty stretch. Aptly named because there was nothing for who knows how many miles. It was five-hundred miles to the next town, and from what I was told, it was a complete shithole. The hyper rail that ran alongside the road actually curved off into the desert and through the mountains because it was simply quicker then following the road. I had heard that a couple stations stood out there to keep the hyper trains going, but who can be sure that they exist. Well I guess I should elaborate on the events that lead to my current situation.

After I sat around with the naked dead guy for a couple hours, that woman, the bartender finally came in. I presented her with the bounty, and she just simply looked mortified. She had dropped what she was carrying in a moment that I thought was surprise, but was actually pure terror. "You killed him. You really killed him", she said. At that point I expected my cash, and that extra payment she had promised. She didn't hand me any cash, or invite my upstairs, she simply drew her pistol from her hip, which in turn prompted everyone else to aim at the new guy in town. "You shouldn't have done that, the bounty was only in place to get people to go to the quarry to be mugged, killed, and have their organs sold", she said. Now I was the shocked one. "Most people that come to the bar are in on it. Not that guy who died, he was starting to catch on", she explained. "Well then, if you'll excuse me", I said. I then turned and made a dive over a table and flipped it toward the attackers. The room exploded with sound as every gun in the building went off at once. Some bullets went high, and others went right into the thick table, fortunately none entered me. I waited for a break in the fire, and when it happened I emerged from cover and fired at a few attackers. A one-eyed wolf took a bullet through his good eye, and a couple of coyotes who looked like the could be twins went down too. That left that bartender bitch, the other bartender, and one other goon. I heard their clips lock into place and the safeties switch off. I got behind a pillar that held up the roof, and heard more bullets go into the structure and go past my head. I repeated the strategy, and took down that daytime bartender and the other goon. At this point that bitch realized she lost, and tried to run. I was faster, and I tackled her to the ground. "Where's the money?!", I yelled. "There is no money", she said. I stood up, took my pistol, and aimed at her face. She still wasn't talking. I aimed down at her knee, and fired right into it. She screamed in pain, but still wouldn't talk. I did the same to the other knee. She screamed again, and came back to her senses. "Alright, it's in the safe behind the bar, take it, take all of it, just don't hurt me anymore", she said. "Oh don't worry, you won't feel anymore pain", I said. I aimed at her head. "No don't", she was cut off by the sound of a bullet being fired into her skull. I walked over to the safe behind the bar and found it open. I grabbed as much cash as I could, then rounded up weapons and ammo from the dead guys.

I then considered something. A lot of people saw me go in there, and somehow I knew that a lot of people heard that gun battle. I knew that some people in the gang might be ready to jump me, so I looked around for someone about my size. Luckily enough for me, both coyotes were about the same size as me. I started undressing, and once I was down to my underclothes, I stripped off the first coyote. I took the boots and pants off first, and noticed a distinct lack of dick. I then went to the other coyote and stripped off the boots and pants and luckily it was a guy. I started dressing in his clothes, and then putting my old clothes on him. I rolled him over into a corner, and checked my new clothes for anything good. I was now dressed in black combat boots, black mercenary fatigue pants, a green shirt, with a sort of mesh scarf as well. I grabbed up the guns I had and started to head toward the door when I noticed a coat wrack. It had a black trench coat on it, three weapon holsters, an ammo bandoleer, and a nice hat that I couldn't tell you the name of. I secured my automatic rifle and newly acquired shotgun, and long rifle in the weapon holsters, and put those on, and the ammo bandoleer. Once I was done getting ready, I went to a window that had been shot out, and climbed through it. As I suspected, a couple guys were waiting on the side of the building to ambush anyone who tried to exit through the front door. I decided sneaking past was the best option, so I silently moved to my bike, and got on.

Now here I am in the worst part of the desert, riding with no end in site. It was almost night when I saw something in the distance on the side of the road. I drove up to it, and discovered that it was a truck that looked to be abandoned. I checked the front to make sure no one was inside, and when I determined that, I went around back. I found the doors unlocked, so I opened them, expecting it to be empty. Once the door was opened, I saw a couple men dressed all in black pointing rifles at me. I raised my hands surrendering, then I felt something hard hit the back of my head. Everything went to black at that point.
