#1 of L.A.F.F. Pups

A little something I did based off of my friends who are all part of the Lake Area Furry Friends (L.A.F.F.) around Chicago. Kellster the kitten is moving into the dog suburbs. Surely she will be greeted with a warm welcome by the other dogs at the playground...won't she?

When Silver reached the dog playground, he found that no one was there. The brown and tan furred coyote with a turquoise Mohawk started looking around for his friends.

"Guys?" he called, "Nitro? Aniro? Tommyfox? Sombra?"

Silver looked under a large orange slide.

"Tommyfox?" he called. Silver sighed and decided to walk over to a huge mountain of rubber tires, all with teeth marks on them. Silver stuck his head into one of the tires.

"Nitro?" he shouted, "are you in there?"

No answer. "This is just great," muttered Silver as he stuck his head out of the tire and sat down on one of the tires at the base of the mountain. In front of him was a jumbled mess of rusted large pipes, fire hydrants, and other such items of junk that all formed a playground. But what fun was a playground to Silver if he had no one to share it with?

Silver rested his head on his paws and said, "I guess I was too early again. Oh well. I can find tons of ways to have fun. After all, I'm a coyote!"

"No," said a voice, "you're a derp dog."

Silver turned around to see his friend Aniro, a blue Dracowolf with green hair and large wings that began at the small of his back, only a few inches away from him.

"Aniro!" exclaimed Silver, "Thank Akela! I was worried for a second that none of you guys were here!"

"Yes," said Aniro, "I am usually here on time, except this morning my sister was being my sister."

"Let me guess," replied Silver, "She belched up fire under your mattress?"

"That was last week," said Aniro, "this time she made my alarm clock late."

"Ouch," said Silver.

Suddenly, Silver saw his friend Nitro come out from behind a large orange fire hydrant that had a slide coming out of it.

"Hello," said the blue and white husky in a friendly way as he walked towards Silver. The two gave each other a big hug. Then Aniro went over to hug Nitro.

"How are ya, buddy?" asked Silver.

"Pretty good," replied Nitro.

"Hi guys," said an orange-brown Alaskan Malamutt. Accompanied with her was an orange and white Corgi wearing a bright green bandana around her neck that said "Ziggo" in white letters. She had a pair of bright green blind shades above her blue eyes..

"Hey Sombra, Ziggo." said Silver.

"Well," said Nitro, "I just had an amazing breakfast and now I wanna do something," said Nitro, "anyone got any ideas?"

"We could pretend to hunt foxes," said Aniro.

"What?!" said a voice, "I swear I didn't do anything...yet!"

From out of the mountain of tires, a white arctic fox with black hair popped his head out of one of the tires and gave off a high-pitched giggle.

"Cool, Tommyfox is here, too!" Said Silver.

"And I say we all play Frisbee," said Tommyfox.

"Alright!" Shouted Silver and Nitro with enthusiasm in unison as they gave each other a high-paw.

"Only one problem," said Tommyfox, "I forgot the Frisbee at home."

"You fox!" Shouted Aniro.

"Sorry," said Tommyfox, grinning sheepishly.

"Maybe there's one here somewhere," said Silver, "hold on one second!"

Silver looked around, and in a forest of large bone-shaped structures, he came across a red rubber ball.

"Eh," thought Silver, "this'll do."

"Okay guys," said Silver carrying the ball as he returned to his friends, "I couldn't find a Frisbee, but I did find this!"

Silver showed all of his friends the ball.

"Great," said Aniro, "we can throw that around. It's the same principle."

"Count me out," said Tommyfox, "at least for this round. I'm so used to Frisbee that I need to watch this first."

"I'm gonna watch, too,"" said Sombra, "this should be fun."

"Yeah," said Ziggo, "first round will be Silver, Nitro, and Aniro."

"Alright," said Silver as the three of them got into a triangle formation.

Silver passed the ball to Aniro, who threw it to Nitro, who chucked it to Silver.

"Time to make the game more interesting," said Silver, "hey Aniro, think fast!" shouted Silver as he threw the ball towards Aniro.

Aniro was shocked by this, and being part dragon, blew out fire and scorched the ball to a crisp in a flourish of flames. Everyone ducked except Nitro, who laughed in amazement.

"That...was...PAWSOME!" He shouted with glee.

"I guess," replied Silver, "but that was also NUTS!"

"Teach us how!" Shouted Nitro, still hyper from the sight of the flames, "I wanna see what people will think if I just do that outta nowhere!"

"You guys DO KNOW that you could seriously hurt someone like that, right?" said Sombra, "I mean, look at the ball!"

Everyone turned to see the blackened rubber ball deflate, flat as a pancake.

"Aw, SWEET!" shouted Silver, "now we CAN play Frisbee!"

"No..." said Sombra, shaking her head, "let's not and say we did."

Sombra laughed sheepishly.

"Doesn't bother me," said Silver.

"Yeah," said Nitro as he walked towards the remains of the ball, "it don't matter."

Nitro bent and grabbed the ball in his claws, but he instantly let go with a whimper.

"Yikes!" Exclaimed Silver, "that's gonna leave a mark...you okay, pal?"

"Yup," said Nitro.

Then Nitro looked at his paws. They were singed and turned a bit gray.

"Well," said Nitro, "maybe not. Hopefully."

"You two are such derps," said Aniro.

"Ya mean me and Nitro?" asked Silver.

"Yes," said Aniro, "especially you, Silver."

"Why I oughta-" began Silver.

But then Silver stopped. Instantly, he started sniffing the ground with his big, black, damp nose. Nitro, Sombra, Ziggo, and Tommyfox did the same.

"What are you dogs doing now?" Growled Aniro.

"New scent!" Shouted Silver, "and it smells weird!"

"You sure it's not me?" Said Tommyfox. He gave off another high-pitched giggle.

"No," said Silver, "I've sniffed you many times before...unless you rolled in something."

"Nope," said Tommyfox, "I swear I'm clean!"

"It's like nothing I have ever smelled before," claimed Sombra.

"It smells like cookies and peanut butter," said Ziggo.

"With just a hint of dusty flowers," added Silver.

"Come on, guys," said Nitro, "let's follow it! Hope it's food!"

Nitro's stomach growled.

"BETTER be," he added.

Aniro eventually picked up the scent as well, but only being half-canine, it wasn't as strong in his muzzle as it was for his friends. He sighed and followed his scent-enhanced friends.

Meanwhile, Kellster, a black kitten with rainbow paws and rainbow hair, was being dropped off at the dog playground by her parents. Her parents had just moved into the dog suburbs from the cat suburbs far away, because her father got a promotion in his job, which forced them to move. After her parents had dropped her off, Kellster was nervous but excited at the same time. In front of her was a huge metal fence, and in the distance she could see a playground, constructed of fire hydrants and massive bone-shaped structures. Kellster was carrying a cookie in her right paw and a jar of peanut butter in her left paw. She had never met a dog before, and she was excited to meet one.

Suddenly, Kellster heard the pitter-patter of paws thrashing the ground. In what felt like less than a second, she saw five dogs and a dragon wolf angrily barking and thrashing at the fence with their paws. At first all Kellster could see were six sets of fangs that were snarling and growling at her. Then she could make out that there was a brown coyote with a turquoise Mohawk, a blue and white Husky, a white Arctic Fox, a blue Dracowolf with green hair, an orange-brown sienna Malamutt, and an orange Corgi.

"What are YOU doing here, CAT?!" growled the Arctic Fox.

The blue Husky growled as well and snarled, "This is OUR turf. BEAT IT!"

The coyote growled as his fur bunched up and drool thrashed out of his mouth and snarled, "Should we teach this cat a lesson?! What do you think, guys?!"

Kellster just wanted to shrink until the mean dogs couldn't see her any more.

"Wait," said Sombra as Kellster began to cry, "Why are we growling at her?"

"Sombra has a point, guys," said Ziggo, "she may be a cat, but she's new and she's nervous!"

"So?" Snapped Tommyfox.

"Well," said Sombra, "YOU GUYS can do what you want, but Ziggo and I are going over there."

Ziggo and Sombra walked over to the crying black kitten.

"Hi," said Sombra, "what's your name?"

"K...Kellster," said Kellster through a shower of tears.

"Okay," said Sombra, "that name is adorable."

Sombra laughed sheepishly.

"Th...thank you," stuttered Kellster.

"We're sorry we barked and growled at you," said Ziggo, "we're dogs, so it's just instinct is all."

"W...would you like some cookies and peanut butter?" Asked Kellster.

"Sure," said Sombra.

"Thank you," said Ziggo.

Behind the fence, Aniro, Nitro, Silver, and Tommyfox were still watching from behind the fence.

"I can't see," said Nitro, "what are they doing?"

"Her name's Kellster....and I think they are eating cookies," said Silver, "and peanut butter! So THAT'S what we smelled!"

"I love cookies," drooled Nitro, "especially with milk."

Nitro shuddered in a positive, attracted way.

"Yeah," said Silver in the same dream-like state.

"Can't you derps think of anything but food?!" Growled Aniro.

"I can think of...a shoe," said Nitro, "wait...that's still food."

"BACON!" shouted Silver, "wait...nope. Garbage? Nope."

Aniro slapped his forehead.

"Oh, dog..." he mumbled.

"Seriously, snap out of it guys," snarled Tommyfox, "remember guys, she's a cat! She can't be a friend of ours!"

"Right," said Nitro and Silver, coming back to reality.

"Do you guys have a plan?" Asked Tommyfox.

"Oh," answered Silver, "we've GOT a plan!"

"We do?" Asked Nitro.

"Well...not yet," said Silver, "but we will soon!"

"Derp," scoffed Aniro.

"Wait," said Nitro, "I have a plan."

"Let's hear it," said Silver, "Whaddya got, buddy?"

"Well," said Nitro, "you know that swing set made of bones?"

"Which one?" Asked Silver and Tommyfox in unison.

Tommyfox giggled again.

"The one where even the swings themselves are bones," said Nitro.

"That's what I was thinking of," said Tommyfox.

"Well anyways," continued Nitro, "we will lure her over there. Me and Silver will ask her to come on the swings with us. I pretty much know how to loosen the chains on the swings. But I can only loosen them on the bottom-"

"'Cause you're afraid of heights," interrupted Silver.

"Yeah," replied Nitro, "and if we do it right, Kellster will get on the swing and land straight on the ground!"

"So ya want someone to loosen them on the top?" Asked Silver.

"Pretty much," said Nitro as if he were stretching.

"Do ya want me to?" asked Silver.

"'Course!" Said Nitro, "After all, you were and still are the only one brave enough out of all of us to go on the Sirius Howlin' Rage coaster at Fang Park!"

"226 feet that I will NEVER forget," grinned Silver.

"Yepp," replied Nitro, giving Silver a high paw, "So you're perfect for this task."

"And I'll just be a fox," said Tommyfox, grinning.

"You guys better get going," said Aniro, "those swings are on the far side of the park. You'll have to get through all of the equipment."

"Yepp," said Nitro, "Come on, good buddy!"

Silver and Nitro eventually made their way to the far side of the playground, and eventually made it to the bone swing set.

"Okay," said Nitro, "ready, Silver?"

"Ready!" Said Silver with a determined smirk across his muzzle.

"Alright, head on up there."

Silver carefully but calmly inched his way up to the top of the bone swing set until he reached the top where the chains to the swings were bolted tightly like shiny silver hexagons.

"Okay," said Nitro, "I'm gonna loosen the chains on the swing in the middle."

"He said the swing on the left, right?" said Silver to himself, "yeah, he did."

"Now remember," said Nitro, "both the top and the bottom have to be loosened or something REALLY BAD will happen!"

"Got it," said Silver.

"Okay, you got your screwdriver, right?"

"No."

"What the FETCH?!" growled Nitro. Nitro reached into the pocket of his jeans - the only article of clothing he wore, let alone anyone wore - and pulled out a screwdriver.

"Fetch," commanded Nitro as he threw threw the screwdriver to Silver, who caught it in his mouth.

"Okay," said Nitro, "take the screwdriver and insert it into the slot."

"Done."

"Now start twisting the screwdriver a little to the left," ordered Nitro.

Silver carefully started unscrewing both the bolts on the swing to the left - not the middle - while Nitro loosened the chains on the swing in the middle. Soon, their mischievous deed was done.

Silver carefully made his way back down to the ground and the two gave each other a high paw, laughing as they left the swing set.

Soon, the two made their way back to Tommyfox and Aniro.

"Did you rig it?'" Asked Tommyfox.

"Ohhh yeah!" Beamed Nitro.

"Excellent work, you two," said Aniro, "but now how do we get her to come over there?"

"Just watch," smirked Silver, "come on, bud."

Silver and Nitro walked over to Kellster, Sombra, and Ziggo.

"Hiya," said Silver, "name's Silver! Nitro and I are sorry for barking and growling at you."

"Yepp," said Nitro, "so we wanna make it up to you."

"What are you guys up to?" asked Sombra in a suspicious way.

"Nothing," said Silver, "we just wanna play on the swings with the newcomer."

"Thank you!" Said Kellster, "my name is Kellster. Let's go!"

Soon, Kellster, Nitro, and Silver were at the swing set. They got there quickly because last time they forgot about taking the shortcut slide through the doggie door in the big yellow fire hydrant.

"Go ahead," said Silver, "you get to choose what swing ya want first. But the best one is the one in the middle!"

"Since you guys were so nice to me," replied Kellster, "why don't you guys go first?"

Silver suddenly forgot which swing he had loosened on the top. He gestured for Nitro to get into a huddle with him.

"You got the one in the middle right?" Whispered Nitro.

Silver decided that it might as well have been the one in the middle that he had loosened.

"Yup," replied Silver.

"Then both of us will go on the swings on either side and we should be good," whispered Nitro.

Silver and Nitro walked over to the swing set as Kellster looked puzzled. They both sat down on the swings to the left and the right. The whole swing set came crashing down on them instantly. Luckily, the swing set did not weigh that much, so Silver and Nitro were bruised, but not in need of a vet.

Meanwhile, Sombra, Ziggo, Aniro, and Tommyfox heard the loud crash and came running to the swing set to see what had happened.

When they all arrived, Kellster was busy helping Nitro and Silver get back up on their feet and dusting them off.

"What," began Sombra, "did you guys do?!"

Silver shrugged his shoulders with a sheepish grin and Nitro held out an open paw and, through his nervously smiling muzzle, began to explain.

"Well," he began, "what happened was...we were trying to pull a prank on Kellster."

"I oughta smack you two with a newspaper," muttered Sombra shaking her head.

"But THIS ONE," said Nitro as he playfully punched Silver in his shoulder, "messed up big time. It don't matter what we did-"

"TO BE FAIR," interrupted Sombra gesturing towards the remains of the swing set, "you guys CLEARLY have some explaining to do!"

"We'll get to that later," said Nitro, "but what really matters is that we learned a lesson."

"Yeah," said Silver, "being mean and pulling pranks on others is wrong and can really hurt someone...even if the furry who is receiving the prank is a cat."

"And," continued Nitro, "there's nothing wrong with a cat either. She helped us when we were both in pain when our prank backfired."

Tommyfox and Aniro both nodded.

"We're sorry," said Silver, "for everything we have done. It's time to begin a new start."

Nitro and Silver showed Kellster that they wanted to hug her. Kellster agreed to the hug, and soon Sombra, Ziggo, Aniro, and Tommyfox all joined in.

"Welcome to your new playground, Kellster!" Said Nitro, gently slapping his paw on the small of Kellster's back.

Kellster smiled. She had finally made some new friends, and even though they were dogs, it didn't matter. All of them knew this was the start of something big.
