Dartmouth Part Two: Dartmouth High School

School was starting today. That was incredibly unfortunate. My whole summer had been spent in a rush of moving and spending time with friends before I would leave, I was in no way ready to start school on the first day. I jumped out of bed early, and turned off my alarm clock before it could even think about sounding off. I then went into the bathroom and hopped in the shower, and because I was first, I got the hottest water. As I was drying off, I heard my mom heading downstairs to make breakfast. I threw on some clothes, and headed downstairs to see her before anyone else was up. "Wow, you're up early, excited to start school or something?", she asked. "Not at all, I don't want to go today, I'm still tired from the move, and I'm not ready to begin a whole new li-", I started to say, but my mom cut me short. "Don't give me that, you had two days after the move. Maybe if we had just moved in a day ago I would be more sympathetic, definitely if we had moved in last night, but two days? You've got to be kidding me. The problem here is that you don't apply yourself in any field, and you are always negative, maybe if you were more like your sister you would be a happ-", she went on, but I toned her out. After a quick breakfast of eggs, I heard my sister finally come down stairs after all here combing, straightening, blow-drying, and other things girls feel the need to do in the bathroom. "Finally", I said. She simply gave me a look to express her anger. After she ate breakfast, we could finally leave, and lucky for us the school was only a short walk away from our house. We walked in silence, I generally didn't have much to say to my sister, we didn't understand each other.

We got to the school early so that we wouldn't have to have any problems at the main office. We entered the office and saw no one was around so we sat in the chairs provided. "Hi there can I help you two?", a woman asked. "Hi", I said, "I'm David McCreary, and this is my sister-", I said before I was cut off once again. "Hi, I'm Allie McCreary", she said. The woman than asked us what we needed, and we explained about how we were new, and how we were already registered. The lady went over to a filing cabinet, and opened a drawer labelled L-N. She rifled around a bit, apparently a lot of people of Irish descent around here, until she finally pulled out two files. "I'm assuming that you're Alexandra", she said addressing my sister. My sister said yes. "Alright, here's your schedules, locker numbers and combinations for the lockers. You're here early, so don't be late getting to class", she said handing us the the papers. My sister and I both looked at our schedules. Mine seemed fine enough, except for the fact that I had been enrolled in AP English Language and Composition. My sister on the other hand found herself quite disappointed by the fact that she had Gym later on. I turned and headed to my Homeroom, which just so happened to be my AP English room, which just so happened to be my first period. I got to Homeroom, sat down, and cracked open my book and read until the bell. Once the bell rang my fellow students, and the teacher came in. We then rose for the pledge, heard some announcements, then we were dismissed to our classes. I waited for the rest of the class to come in, and soon enough a girl, who was pretty enough, but not total cheerleader kind of pretty, came in. She was kind of short, and she was a wolf. She had light brown fur, and she had a very bushy tail. She walked toward me, and part of me didn't want her to sit right next to me, while part of me was totally fine with it. Sure enough, she dropped her stuff right on the desk and sat down and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Sarah McCready, and you are?", she said. "Hi, I'm David McCreary, but most people just call me Dave", I replied. "Is your name really McCreary?", she asked. "Yeah", I replied. "Wait, you aren't David McCreary, son of infamous gangster Patrick McCreary are you?", she asked. Oh man, they know me out here too. "Yeah", I replied. "So your mom is Kelli McCreary, the famous author?", she asked. "Yeah", I replied again, "but she goes by Kelli Rourke, her maiden name, now". "Well I guess it's no surprise that you're in AP then, you must have that same gift for writing as your mother", she said. "So they say", I replied. "I'm sure they're right", she said. "Maybe", I said, "so is the Patrick McCreary case well known here?". "Not really", she said, "mostly just his arrest, but all that stuff about his family was either only local in Boston, or national on CNN and other news channels". "Oh good. So how do you know about it?", I asked. "Well I lived in Boston when it happened", she said. I was about to say something else when class started.

As the day went on, I got through my classes and had lunch with Sarah and some of her friends. Later on I had Gym and met a guy named Keith who seemed pretty cool. Finally the day was coming to an end. I waited in the entrance of the school for my sister, and when I finally found her, she was surrounded by a group of girls. She being the social butterfly that she was had already made a group of friends. I was lucky enough to know the names of a few people, but Sarah did end up giving me her phone number. We walked back home in silence, and once we had got back I went upstairs and read some more. My mom then called out that she was going to the store and asked if anyone wanted to come. I had homework and actually wanted to get to it, so I said no. My mom, brother, and sister left the house and I saw the old car pull out of the driveway and turn down the street. I was deep into an essay about myself that I had due for English, when the phone started ringing. I figured I'd just let the answering machine get it. I heard the answering machine tone as the message was recorded, but then the phone started ringing again. I ignored it, but it just kept ringing until I got up and answered it. "What do you want? Why can't you just leave a message? Hello? Hello?!?!", I was practically screaming at the machine before I heard a reply. A monotonous voice on the other end spoke to me. "Four moved in, and one has seen, the glow of light that shines each night. Does he wonder what it means? Answers will come in due time David, just remember that", the speaker said. "Who is this? How do you know my name? ANSWER ME!!", I said but all I heard was the dial tone. I slammed the receiver down, and ran to the front door and checked to see if it was locked. I checked all the windows, and went back to my room. I tried to get back to work, but all I could think of was that house where the light had been glowing the other night. I went back downstairs, and turned the TV on and started watching whatever was on, waiting for my family to return. Finally they did, and even though I was shaken up, I didn't tell them about what happened, so I just sat down and enjoyed a dinner with them. That night I closed the blinds when I went to bed, but I still saw that glow for brief instant. I didn't sleep easily that night.

From then on the rest of the week was normal. I woke up, got ready for school, walked in silence with my sister to school, then went to classes. I talked to Sarah some more, but not about the incident on the phone. I also talked to Keith some more in gym, but not enough to really consider him a friend yet. On Friday Sarah asked if she could show me around the town over the weekend, and I agreed. Without anything weird happening over the week, I started to believe that I had fallen asleep while working, dreamed the whole event up, and then woke up paranoid enough to believe the dream. I allowed that to be the truth for awhile.
