#5 of Friendly's New Friend

The final chapter of my story "Friendly's New Friend" - enjoy!

It wasn't very long before Friendly's parents came home again. Both Timothy and Friendly rushed down the stairs together as they heard the car pulling into the driveway. "I know! Let's hide so they'll wonder where we are" suggested Friendly. "Okay!" agreed Timothy, "What about this closet?" "Nah, that's too close to the door" said Friendly... "I know! There's a futon in that room, we can hide behind that" So the boys rushed into the spare room downstairs. Timothy got down on all fours and crawled behind the futon, and Friendly followed him. "They'll never find us here" chuckled the fox, sitting down on the dusty floor behind the futon and turning to his friend. "Go on Timothy, you can sit down... you don't need to stay on all fours with your butt in the air like that" chuckled the fox. Timothy smiled and sat down, his Pull-ups crinkling a little under his shorts as he did so. "I wonder where the boys are" said Friendly's mom. "Their bikes are out there, so they must be in here somewhere" "Maybe they're just upstairs playing with the train set" The dust behind the futon was starting to irritate Friendly's nose. He struggled to hold a sneeze in. "Aa... aaah... ahhh!" said Friendly, trying to pinch his nose to hold the sneeze in. Friendly's mom went into the spare room, having heard something. "Are you in here boys?" she asked. Friendly struggled to hold in another sneeze. Timothy suddenly farted very loudly. "Hmmm" said Friendly's mom, looking behind the futon. She'd found them. "Oh, you found us!" said Friendly, standing up and brushing himself off. "Yeah, you shouldn't go behind there; I haven't vaccuumed there for ages" "What gave us away?" Timothy asked innocently, peeking from behind the futon. "Well... first an attempt to hold in a sneeze, and then one of you two... well - you know" "You and your butt, Timothy" chuckled Friendly. "I'm sorry" said Timothy, looking a little upset. "Hey, I'm not mad at you. I was just teasing" said the fox, giving his friend a hug and helping him to his feet.

After a delicious lunch provided by Friendly's parents, both boys were taken to the local swimming pool as a special treat. Timothy's mom and dad joined them too. They went into the family changeroom. Friendly changed into his swimwear while Timothy's mom helped Timothy to change. She took his Pull-ups off and put them in a plastic bag, so he could wear them in bed later that night. "You haven't been wearing these all day, have you?" Sally asked, referring to his shorts. "Um..." struggled Timothy. In truth, he had been wearing them since the morning. "Timothy's Pull-ups leaked last night, I washed his shorts because they got soaked" said Friendly's mom. "Yeah, they do leak often. I'm gonna try and get him to wear the other brand for big boys" replied Sally. "Oh well, at least your shorts are clean" Sally then helped Timothy pull his shorts back on, and helped him take his shirt off. "Now we're ready!" said Friendly to Timothy. "Not quite" said Sally, taking a pair of yellow floaties from the plastic bag and fitting them onto Timothy's arms. "You can't swim?" guessed Friendly. "Um... I dunno. I've never tried" said Timothy. "Well, I'll help you" said Friendly, putting his paw on his friend's shoulder and walking to the pool with him. As the grown-ups went over to the hot tub, Friendly and Timothy went over to the big pool. Timothy seemed rather nervous as he waded into the water. "It's okay Timothy" said Friendly, taking his friend's paw and smiling warmly at him. As the water became deeper, Friendly took on a doggy-paddle form of swimming, the one he was most comfortable with. Timothy on the other hand began to flounder as his feet left the floor, with only his floaties keeping him afloat. Friendly quickly took his friend's paw and towed him back to the shallow end. "Here, let me help you" said the fox, positioning Timothy so he was floating on his belly instead of relying solely on his floaties. "All you have to do is kick your feet, and you'll move through the water" Timothy looked back at his feet and began to kick, and he turned to face Friendly. "I'm not going anywhere" squeaked the raccoon. He tried harder, but his feet just spun uselessly in the water and he couldn't propel himself through the water. "Hmm... this isn't easy for you, is it?" said Friendly. "Can we just float around?" asked Timothy. "If you'd like" replied Friendly, taking Timothy's paw and swimming through the water in a doggy-paddle, towing his friend alongside him. The two boys looked at each other and the fox smiled at his friend. Timothy looked as Friendly's feet kicked and propelled them both through the water, and he tried kicking his feet too to help his friend. "Well, I do have a lot to help you with, don't I?" chuckled Friendly, "Swimming, Reading, Riding your bike without training wheels..." "Yeah. Nobody I've ever met has been so willing to help me like you have. Thank you" said Timothy, letting go of the fox's paw and trying to swim over to him to hug him, but he just floundered since the water was too deep for him. Friendly smiled and swam the little distance to hug his friend. He treaded water to keep them both afloat as he embraced the raccoon. "Let's go in the hot-tub. This water is kinda cold" said Friendly. "Yeah" agreed Timothy, holding Friendly's paw again so his friend could tow him to the steps.

Once at the side of the pool, Timothy waited for Friendly to help him out. Friendly lifted his friend as high as he could. Timothy tried to climb out - but his floaties made it more awkward since they were touching the wet tiled floor and they kept slipping. Timothy's feet just kept slipping too as he tried to climb out. "Awww" said Friendly, putting his paws on Timothy's butt to give him more support while gently pushing him up. "Thank you Friendly" said Timothy, as he awkwardly clambered out of the pool and stood up, waiting for the fox to join him. "Don't worry about it" said Friendly, smiling at his friend and putting his arm around the young raccoon, gently patting his back as they walked along together. "I wonder if you could sleep over at my house" said Timothy. "Maybe... but it's a school night tonight. Maybe next week" said Friendly. "I hope so, I can't wait to show you my house!" squeaked Timothy.

Soon it was time to leave. Friendly and Timothy went their separate ways once they got out of the changing room, guided by their parents. They waved goodbye to each other, both hoping to meet up again really, really soon to have more fun together.
