Chapter Ten

Dante, Erebosian Wolf

"Cowards die many more times before their death." -- Julius Caesar

Markus's apprehension rose as silence fell over the group. They all knew that they could lose their lives in such an attempt, and none of them felt like speaking. For Markus, this was the first thing of it's kind that he'd ever experienced. Causing a riot? He'd never thought of ever doing such a thing! But, how was he going to pull it off now?

In his soft, white furry paws he held the bow that he was given earlier, which he hadn't even tried out yet, as well as a quiver full of arrows on his back. He'd only ever tried a bow a few times in his life, and he'd always had a normal target. He didn't even want to think about what he'd have to try and hit if the situation arose.

Looking down at the belts that crossed his chest, all covered with the grenades and supplies he was given to, essentially, cause havoc. He'd never even seen such weapons before today. "Today" thought Markus "Man, was today something... Getting transformed, then attacked, then teleporting then escaping from yet another attack!" Surprisingly enough, his body felt less depleted of energy than Markus thought it normally would have. Either that soda that Riskar had given him really did make him feel better, or Astorians packed more stamina than humans.

Through the deserted streets the four walked, Riskar carrying Narr on his back in the back of the congregation, while Farinay and Arron lead the way, with Markus walking just beside Arron.

Arron's lip was slightly upturned into a grimace, he obviously wasn't looking forward to what they were about to do either. "Though" Markus thought,"He seems to have come to terms with it quicker than I have..." Farinay on the other hand seemed to be filled with excitement. The panther was almost trip skipping along, his wings constantly shuffling as he hummed a fast paced tune.

Normally that would have been annoying, but everyone was just so pent up that even Markus understood that that was just Farinay's way of coping with stress like this. Rounding a corner on the desecrated ghetto street, they began to approach the more inhabited part of the city. After a few minutes, a large, but very flat looking building appeared in front of them. Farinay flew up and hopped over a fence into a rather unkept looking garden, filled with large bushes. He helped Riskar get Narr over the fence, after which Arron then lifted Riskar himself over.

"There, hide here until the guards are lured out. At that point just use the gate over there nearest the barracks entrance to get out and infiltrate the area to get to the radiation scanner. We'll meet up at base." Arron the proceeded to look down at the ground before him, and then added gravely,"Good luck, it was a pleasure working with you."

Riskar nodded, a look of sadness in his eyes, as if he were deeply regretting something that he'd done, or do. But this quickly disappeared as he turned to try and get his charge into a more comfortable position on the ground.

Arron turned to face Farinay and Markus saying simply,"Come." Farinay muttered something to himself under his breath but turned to follow Arron the opposite direction of where they came, having flown back over the fence as Riskar and Farinay talked. Markus walked beside them, the group now a trio with Arron in the middle. Feeling more confident now, Markus inquired,"So, we're going to the city center, and causing a distraction?"

Arron nodded,"Yes, Farinay will fly up and scatter smoke grenades all around the center, while I set fire to shops and buildings. You'll stay with Farinay by aiding him with all your missiles. Don't be afraid to use your bow, you've got plenty of fire to spare." Markus nodded, still very nervous as to what was to come.

"I'll also be casting protective wards around us, when the soldiers come, we'll be evading them and running around and causing more chaos as we go. Don't worry, I'm sure your instincts will kick in." Farinay added, a slightly mischievous grin on his whiskered muzzle. Markus couldn't fully understand what Farinay meant by that remark, and was about to ask when Arron suddenly held out his paws to stop the two.

"We're here." he said, in a tone that seemed to dictate fate itself.
