Chapter 1 - Wednesday

"So when did you first know you were gay?"

"When I had to fake an orgasm after loosing interest half way through having sex with a woman for the first time."

Joel laughed out loud. His sense of humor in tact like always. Don smiled as he lifted his drink. Bearing his row of canine teeth. The empty coffee house barely took notice. The ferret barista sat behind the register, trying to stay awake as his graveyard shift came to an end. Having a nearby 24-Hour coffee shop had always been a nice perk of Don's apartment.

The red wolf took a sip from his cup. The cold, refreshing tea helped lubricate his throat from his break in conversation with the Mexican wolf. Joel chuckled as he drank from his coffee. He took the opposite direction of Don now. Don needed a little relaxation from being up all night and something to help lull him into sleep soon. Joel on the other hand need to go home and prepare for work immediately after their meeting.

Don scratched at the cinnamon colored fur of his muzzle as his tail swished on the tile floor of the local shop. This outing had been good for him. A much need distraction to his life.

"How about you?"

Joel gave a grunt of question as he set his drink on the table.

"When did you know you were gay?" Don elaborated.

"Oh," Joel replied.

He sat in silence for a bit as he thought about it.

"Either when I kissed a boy in 1st grade, or the first time I saw gay porn," he finally responded.

Don gave a chuckle, making Joel's ears flick as he did.

"Seems like a big gap," Don said.

"Not really. Saw a guy getting a blow job when I was thirteen."

"You were using the internet then?" Don asked before taking a sip of his drink.

"As if," Joel said with a mocking tone. "I didn't own a computer till I was twenty-two! I just found a movie in my mom's dresser one day."

Don ended up spitting his drink back in his cup. His ears going flat when he did.

"That's the kind of stuff you should never know about your parents," he choked out. "And certainly not something you should tell others!"

Joel gave off another long laugh. He managed to catch his breath just before a black cat entered. Obviously a businesswoman by her suit and rushed tone.

"Should I even ask why you were in her dresser in the first place?" Don asked without diverting his gaze from the black cat.

He only looked away once she noticed him.

"That reminds me," Don said before Joel could reply. "What was it like when you came out to your mother?"

Joel cleared his throat, taking time to recall the event.

"Well, we sat down on the couch. My brother and sister were in their room. I told her that I'm gay and she said she would love me no matter what," he said, ending with a smile on his muzzle.

Don could not help but smile as well. Not a humored smile like when the two joked around. But a sincere one.

"What about you?" Joel asked.

Don did not need much time to prepare. He never forgot how it occurred.

"One day, when I was sixteen, I told my parents I was gay," Don said before taking another drink of tea. He cleared his throat and continued. "They both looked at me for a moment before my dad said 'So you like guys, huh?'"

Joel's jaw dropped and Don chuckled.

"Then my mom added, 'Great! Now I have someone to take shopping.'"

Joel had a transfixed gaze as Don chuckled some more.

"That's really close minded of them," he said.

"Not really," Don replied.

"Why do you say that?"

"They didn't care if I was a foodosexual, going around fucking tacos and whispering to cakes how beautiful they looked before I rammed my dick in them."

A smile broke out again on Joel's muzzle and he laughed.

"They just wanted me to be myself," Don concluded.

The black cat had left awhile ago with her coffee. Don pictured her going off to her desk job at a big company where she had an important position. The only problem was that she had sucked the CEOs dick multiple times just to get to the position she was at. But recently she found a man that made her happy. But her boss would keep calling her into his office for "special meetings."

"What are you thinking about?" Joel asked.

Don broke out of his daydream to return to the conversation.

"Story idea," he replied.

"I thought you didn't write anymore."

"Just because I don't write scripts anymore doesn't mean my mind stops working that way."

"Why don't you just start writing again?"

The comment had been simple and to the point, with no offense meant in it. But it did not feel that way to Don. His fur bristled some and his ears went flat. His tail ceased its swishing beneath his chair. Don knew that Joel could see he had obviously struck a nerve.

"Because I made a choice. Sometimes it's better to do something reasonable and stop following dreams that won't come true," Don replied with a small bark in his voice.

Don took another drink from his tea, finishing it off before adding, "Life is a series of compromises. You only get happiness when you give up the silly or unreasonable things."

Silence lingered between the two for awhile. Don considered getting up and leaving since he no longer had a drink. Plus, he no longer felt he could up his facade. He stopped himself because he knew it would be impolite and Joel had not meant to upset him. Don hoped to end it there for the day and be on his way. Joel on the other hand did not like to leave things on a sour note.

"Ever had a bad date?" he asked.

"Plenty," he replied.

"What was your worst one?... Was it me?"

Don could not help but laugh as he remembered his "worst date."

"You don't even make the list of worst dates. That date in particular was a night with just layers of weird," Don replied.

Joel laughed out loud.

"Then you have to tell me."
