#1 of The Wolves of Twilight: Fallen Angels

This is the first piece here. I know, there's nothing special or animalistic yet, but I'm getting there. My main character has to start out human in some way or another, and this makes for a pretty interesting beginning. Here, we follow my main character in his human life before his transformation into a Twilight Wolf. We now know what had happened to him that had caused him so much grief.

Seth glanced at the note in his hand as he ran towards the Angelwolf Mansion. His best friend Jacob McNaru's whole family lived there, sometimes making Seth feel a little envious of his friend, but also a little glad for him as well. There was a get-together there starting at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. All of his friends, along with their families, and his own family, were to be there for the occasion. It was a barbeque picnic that Jake's family had put together to celebrate Independence Day. Seth was so far the only one absent, as it was just then 5:30 p.m.

Seth sighed and continued his way up the road to the mansion. As a boy of 15, he was not yet old enough to obtain a legal drivers license, and his permit would not be enough to allow him to drive on his own, because he had not finished his training. But he had to get changed back at home, and while he was there, as his mom asked him, he had to feed the animals, change the litter of the catbox (it needed to be cleaned every day, having two cats), water the gardens, do laundry, and all those other necessary daily chores.

When Seth looked in the mirror, he saw before him a boy of five feet exact in height, skinny framed, with a well-muscled barrel chest and six-pack abs (he has bulk-type muscles), all covered by Caucasian skin with a slight tan. He had medium-textured auburn hair, grey-blue eyes, an intermediate nose, medium eyebrows, large forehead, and an average mouth with straight, white teeth that made for a beautiful smile, framed by a mustache and soul-patch beard, shaved and trimmed neatly. All in all, Seth was a striking figure for one his height, and no one even noticed his short height unless he pointed it out because of the way he carried himself.

Seth was also very smart academically, as some might call nerdy, for he scored straight A's in his final grades over the last several years. He also got along well socially with his peers and adults. So he was able to balance everything out perfectly. He also had a very good character, a result of being raised by a loving honorable family. Seth was well liked by everyone, and can be trusted with anything, even secrets, so long as they are reasonable. Therefore, he was a very mature young man, the perfect model of inspiration. The only thing Seth didn't have which most of his peers did was a girlfriend. It wasn't that he doesn't like girls, and he did like girls, but it was just that he wasn't really up to it yet. The attraction wasn't strong enough yet to land him a girlfriend. But he was okay with that.

Checking his watch, Seth hurried up to the front door. He knocked twice using the door knocker built into the massive door of the mansion. The knocker was shaped into the likeness of a wolf with a ring in its mouth. The result was a loud thunder that echoed throughout the mansion. He waited five minutes, wondering what was taking so long. His mom told him that she will be waiting near the front door when he returns, but so far there was no sign of her.

Maybe she got tired of waiting and went to rejoin the party, Seth thought. So he knocked again, this time more loudly. They should have heard him by now. He waited, and still there was no answer. Shrugging, Seth decided to head around back and check to see what was going on. As he neared the last corner, he realized he hadn't heard any sound at all: no voices, no laughter, no music, no anything. This was definitely bad news, as it either meant a) everyone was planning a surprise party for him, or b) something went terribly wrong. And logic told him it was not the former. No, something really bad had happened, and he would soon find out. Suddenly alert, he hesitated at the corner, afraid to see what he feared he might find if he looked. Then he steeled himself, knowing it was inevitable, that he had no other choice.

What he saw was a living nightmare! Seth screamed, and it was a scream of horror, grief, and rage, all in one. There's no point now in keeping his cool, for all of that edge was torn and shredded upon seeing the limp and lifeless bodies of his friends and family, all drowned in the blood that now coated everything. Mom...Dad...Grandma and Grandpa...Uncle Will and Aunt Valerie...Peter...Jasmine...Luke...Allen...Dianne...Chris...Katrina...everyone, now dead.

Feeling the pressure and loss build up inside of him at a rapid exponential rate, Seth let loose a howl of fury and pain. Sobbing, he fell to his knees, head in his hands, shoulders slumped and trembling uncontrollably. Nothing could compensate for this horrible nightmare! But after a time, Seth had no choice but to face it. So he forced himself to take deep breaths and labored to his shaking feet. Stumbling, he went towards where his family was grouped together close to one of the brick garden walls of the mansion. Kneeling next to his motionless mother, he used his shirt to tenderly wipe off the smeared blood from her face. Filled with mourning, a longing new to him, he caressed her delicate cheeks, now dead white and stone cold.

"I will avenge you, Mom," he croaked, tears sliding down his cheeks. "I will pay back the full damage to whoever did this to you, I swear it. And I will not rest until I do. I will avenge all who had suffered here in passing into the void, but I will never forget the times we had had together, all the memories that I treasured dearly. You may be long gone now, but to me, in my heart, you still live on. I will forever trust your spiritual guidance. You mean so much to me, I just can't let those killers get away with it. No, I will not rest, not until I have fully satisfied my need for vengeance. This I swear, and I will never willingly break my promise. Someday, I will rejoin you, but not today. Not today, because there is still work to be done."

As he rose, he noticed something on the wall, a message written in blood...
