#2 of The New World

Finally had time to write. Sorry for the wait. The story is now in 3rd person because I find it easier to write this way. If it bugs you I can edit the prologue into a 3rd person mode. I hope you enjoy the next chapter of The New World. Let me know what you think.

"Your almost there, your almost there, your almost there!"

Breathing erratically Coleson's feet blasted through the forest breaking twigs, branches and running straight through any bushes or leaves not stopping for a moment. He was scared. The constant tug from behind as his new tail was ripped through and grabbed by low hanging branches, but the pain was nothing compared to the sheer terror racing through his head. Still not stopping he did what he always did when he was scared, counted everything he knew

One, an explosion happened in the sky. Two, the fox in my arms is gone. Three, I have silver fur and paws. Four, I have an annoyingly fluffy tail

The list didn't help. If anything it just hurt his head even more. Deciding to ignore everything except on getting home Coleson broke into a full sprint towards the direction of the city. After jumping through a thick thicket he finally made it to the road and fell onto his knees gasping for air. Coleson was used to running for long distances in track but this run had been horribly painful. Falling onto his side Coleson coughed and wheezed struggling to breathe as his heart and lungs began equalizing. Breathing in and out through his nose like he was taught in track the wheezing slowly stopped but the pain still remained.

"W-what the heck?" Coleson asked himself gripping his stomach in an attempt to soothe the constricting pain. Groaning Coleson could feel his vision fading, he had fainted plenty of times during his first year of training for track to realize when a blackout was about to happen.

"N- Not now, please!" He cried out hoping to force his body to wake up and ignore the pain, if only for a little longer. It was no use though, his body was spent and in shock, and there was no way he would be able to run home the remaining three miles. Before his vision faded completely he could see two lights slowly coming towards him and before they reached him Coleson blacked out.

Coleson woke with a start nearly falling from the cushion seat. Groggily taking in his surroundings he smiled at the familiar surroundings of a car. Coleson pulled at the blanket draped over him and closed his eyes sleepily.

"Man, I had the craziest dream mom. There was this bright flash and this other stuff and... Ugh it was awful." He groaned

When a voice deeper and different from his mom's voice replied Coleson nearly jumped through the roof of the car. "You're awake! You had me worried there for a moment."

Sitting up quickly Coleson scrambled to the edge of the seat far away from the driver. "Who are you?" He asked hoping the answer had nothing to do with the explosion, or about him being kidnapped.

The owner of the voice stopped the car before turning around in his seat to face Coleson. The driver's appearance immediately caused Coleson to yip in surprise.

"What are you?" Coleson yelled leaning against the door. From what he could see the driver was covered in short, thick, dark brown fur while his muzzle the fur under it was a light tan brown. Coleson saw the furred creature's ears lowered and couldn't help but feel sorry for asking him such a rude question, even if his appearance did frightened him.

"My names Daniel." He held his paw out which Coleson reached out to shake until-

"AHH!" He screamed out starring at his hand, or at least to what used to be his paw.

Daniel jumped back in surprise starring at Coleson as he began feeling his entire body finally realizing how much he changed. If Daniel hadn't been doing the same exact thing a few hours ago he would have been laughing at the sight.

"What happened to us?" Coleson cried out whimpering and grabbing his own ears while closing his eyes tightly with tears streaking out. Coleson had hoped that at least the transformation hadn't been real.

Coleson continued to cry in frustration and confusion sobbing into his paws. When two furry arms wrapped themselves around his waist he looked away from his paws even more confused.

"Don't cry. We should be thankful that we survived at all." Daniel pulled him closer until he was on his lap trembling slightly but quickly recovering.

Coleson stayed wrapped in the furry embrace. Breathing slowly through his nose and mouth he steadied his breathing and leaned into the warmth. "Daniel?"

"Yes, eh..."

"Coleson."

"Coleson, alright. What is it?" He asked.

Coleson edged himself away from the hug and whispered "What did we survive?"

Daniel sighed. He looked out the window and shivered scaring Coleson. "I'd have to show you."

Coleson looked up to Daniel's eyes holding his paws out "Show me what happened."
