#1 of The New World

Just a prologue of my first story ever posted. Let me know what you think because I am determined to become a better writer. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy any future updates.

No one knows exactly what it was that caused it. The only thing we know, at least as far as were told, is that something exploded outside our atmosphere. The effects had been nearly instantaneous. Anything you were near by merged into the human body corrupting and altering people from the inside out, starting with our DNA. Reports say the death toll was uncountable at the moment though just looking out your window would tell you that there only a small portion of us left, humans though are extinct. The destruction was astonishing, cars mashed into poles and buildings while some were flipped over completely destroyed. The cars and destruction to our city roads and buildings were the least of our problems though The human DNA strand was no more, any intelligent sentient life hardly resembled the human appearance or the genetic makeup.

Some people, like myself had been 'lucky' enough to have a clean transformation. A clean transformation meant that you still have all use of your limbs and that your brain isn't a scrambled mess. A disfigured transformation meant an arm or leg was now lame or a horrible disfigurement had occurred. The last type of transformation is disturbing. Anyone unlucky enough to not be near any kind of compatible life had either merged with other humans to form a mesh of body parts and fluids, or they just died, tore apart from the explosions blast and left speared among their surroundings.

I had been on a hike in an attempt to get away from the loud city noises and angry family drama. Hours into my hike I was enjoyed to stumble upon an oddly colored fox, I followed it as best I could sometimes forcing me to literally sprint through the forest. When the fox suddenly stopped moving it caused me to fall and roll across the forest floor cutting up my arms and face. I was left breathing heavily next to the still frozen fox whose ears laid against its head as a whimpering growl left its muzzle. The fox looked to me and jumped onto my chest curling itself there. I had been too focused on the silver furred fox to notice the bright light streaking towards the sky until it had burst open sending waves of strange flickering light everywhere. My natural reaction was to scream, and run although it seemed hopeless it was all I had. The fox had been pressed against my chest when the light hit me. The pain had been indescribable at the time but now thinking upon the transformation I could remember exactly what it had felt like. First it was warm, incredibly warm like the touch of a iron pinned against the bare skin, but then it turned cold. Somehow it had seemed worse freezing my body while it sank into my skin merging with my DNA. When the cold entered so did a much deeper pain. It had seemed like my brain was attempting to explode and self destruct the rest of my body by throwing them into an uncontrollable fit of spasms while jolts of pain sprang into every inch of my twisted body until it left taking with it the terrible cold light.

The fox was no more. Instead it had merged into me changing my appearance to what looked like a fox human hybrid. I was in a state a shock and even though I had no idea what was happening I at least did know one thing. Everything I once knew was about to change.
