Chapter 2, part 1 >

Dean discovers a mysterious book which is kept secret in the centuries old Library that is made by his ancestors.

It's a dark evening after a warm day. Dean sleeps on his bed, dreaming like others. He snored a bit, but got interrupted by a phone that vibrated vigorously on the desk next to him. It was his mom, that since he left his elderly home, hasn't been contacted by Dean. Dean mumbled a bit and turned his body on the side.

The phone kept vibrating. 'BZZ. BZZ. BZZZZT.' He turned back and peaked his eyes open. He sighed and answered the phone. He mumbled: "Umnh...hello?" "Dean...? Is that really you?" spoke Dean's mom full of sadness. "Who is this?" said the half wake Wolf. "Dean...it's your mom." Dean shocked himself awake. "Mom?"

"There isn't much time, Dean." she said. Dean looked around like he's shouting at his mom. "Whadda you mean, 'Not much time'?!?" "I'll explain you another time, just go to the Library in your city. Just, hurry." "Hurry?" replied Dean. "It's 4AM! The Library's closed!" "Who said you have to go now? Get there when it's open! But be quick. The time's off the essence." said Dean's mom rushed. "Right..." said Dean again half sleepy. "...first thing tomorrow." He hang up on his mom and flopped back his bed in, soundly in sleep.

The following morning went Dean to the Library. As he walked in, he got snagged towards the desk by a Fox who happens to be the Librarian. She grabbed a small, heavy book - covered in dust and a couple of rags on it - out of her drawer. Before she gave it to Dean, she inquired: "Your last name's Shaw, right?" where Dean stifled an "Yes." after he got the book. The Librarian grabbed hold on to the book. "This book will answer all your questions. It is made by your ancestors and my never fall under wrong hands." She tightened her grip on the book. "Do you understand?" Dean nodded out of hesitation and fear and opened the book. But before he could the very first letter, the Librarian slammed the book shut, letting some of the dust blown off. Two paw prints were left on the book, one of them is from Dean, and the other was from the Librarian. She whispered in Dean's ear: "Don't open it here.", where Dean replied: "How do you know about my family?".

She looked around, clicked a button under her desk and opened a hidden door, just a few aisles away. She walked to the door and turned the board towards 'Closed'. "Come with me." she said and walked towards the hidden room, swishing her fox tail. Dean, still a bit shocked from the discovery, followed her to the hidden room. "T-Tell me!" But Dean being Dean, he questioned too soon. "This room has been for centuries." said the Librarian. "How old do you think I am?" she inquired to Dean. Dean looked at her. She wore a typical librarian outfit - plain shoes, checked blazer, white shirt, black pants and a set of glasses - dressed like a librarian should be. He scratched his back of his head and said: "Uh...40? 45?"

The fox chuckled a bit, but went quickly over to a laugh. "Well, you flatter me for selecting me to that age." She sat down on a comfy chair and corrected her glasses. "I'm 200, darling. Despite my age, I've grown along the age of technology and over the years I've been good friends with your family. Your mom is the oldest member I've known. And you..." Dean stepped back and stared at the Librarian as she stood up and handed over a necklace. "This necklace protects you from all the evil." Dean stared at the necklace. The chain is made of gold, and the attachment is a star shaped ruby. "Take it." she said with a lightly demanded voice. Deans hand shivered as it moved towards the necklace. "You better leave now." said the fox. "We will meet again sometime." Dean nodded, trying to understand what just happened and walked out the Library.

Later that night, Dean sat on the couch watching TV. There was a show about the origin of family, and that some of them have powers. That strikes Dean. He looked at the book on the table in front of him. He reached over and held the book. He hesitated a bit, but opened the book. He shocked. "Blank?!?" he shouted. "SHUT UP!" shouted his neighbour from across the hallway. He quickly looked at the door, thinking to shout back at the neighbour, but re-think his course of action. He looked back at the blank page, but saw words emerge from the depths of the page, as was like a submarine. Sentences filled the once blank page.

'The one who is worthy of the Book Of Shaw, shall enter a great adventure who not can be apprehended. Are you ready, Dean Leonard Raul Shaw, son of Natasha Bianca Veronica Shaw, Lord of Fire?' There was a dotted line beneath the sentence, left for reply. Dean re-read the last words. 'Lord of Fire' he read. He thought: 'This must be a joke.' and put the book down, in search of a pen. After a long search - and trashing his room - found Dean his pen and wrote in the book: 'Yes'. The ink dissolved after completing the word along with the sentences above. The book started flapping it's own pages and slammed himself shut. Dean looked at book astounded. He picked up the book, opened it and searched all pages. Blank. He dropped the book on the table, flopped on the couch and sighed deeply.

He didn't realise that the adventure is just beginning.
