#2 of The Struggle of Two

Alfred's parents has something share and Alfred is still in the unknown for his feelings for Arthur.

Alfred felt quite anxious to meet his parents after his first day at Arthur's place. Though he is allowed to visit different furs and other species he was not allowed to stay and visit for long and he certainly know his approximate time he could use to go to another's place. He could make a cover up story, which he was usually really good at, if he had visited specie that resembled his own kind like huskies for instance or malamutes but he had visited a polar fox - a really far related cousin. His parents also allowed him to study wherever he wants as long it's not a stranger's place. They would not get suspicious or mad if he returned home late or such but if they smelled something that did not resemble a wolf they would be angry and begin to discuss the importance of the survival of the society. Some of the claims of the society being fragile did not make sense for Alfred and sometimes he just give in and agree to do dishes, laundries or other house related works for some time to get in good terms with his parents again. But the bright side of the family was that they were willing to discuss nearly anything including opinions about their specie's limits which were an often discussed matter. But his unknown flames of feelings for Arthur made him late and he smelled anything than wolf smell so he embraced himself for a discussion.

"Hey mom and dad" yelled Alfred unsure when he entered the entrance of the huge round and oval house which was built beneath the ground to be more nature friendly. "Hey sweetheart" he heard from the kitchen which was in his surprise covered with sounds of something getting cooked and it was really late - and it smelled good "Not a good sign" he thought. "Hey son" he heard also from the kitchen and that took Alfred again by surprise. Usually his parents would switch to cook meals and they rarely cooked together and even if they did something very special had happen. Alfred would have asked what his mom or dad was cooking but instead anxiously and nervously asked: "Why are you cooking together?" "We're really glad you asked sweetheart" answered his mother partially. Arthur could hear she was coming towards the entrance "We have something to share with..." she stopped. It followed with some awful and unbearable seconds before she continued "What's that smell Alfred?" "Ehm... I..." "How long have you visited this stranger?" his mom asked quite strongly and finally came to the entrance "And who is it?" "It's... ehm... Arthur" "Who Arthur?" asked his dad who stood firmly beside his wife and crossed his arms.

It was crystal clear that Alfred was their son. His muscular body had been inherited in this family through generations of hard work and service in the army - his dad had a bit little stronger muscular body and had dark grey fur with no spots of other color and was 39 years old. His eyes had same color as his son's right eye and that is light greyish color which made them stand out of the rest of his dark figure. His mom had also a bit muscular body but still had a fine touch of feminine glance with beautiful light grey fur where there were several spots of nearly white color and had blue eyes as her son's left eye and just turned 37 years old. No doubt that they look wonderful together and when it comes to upbringing a child they share the same meanings and ideas for such great and important job. Unfortunately for Alfred they also share the same opinion when the deal is about strangers. Their names were Feline the Huntress and Allan the Predator.

"Ehm..." mumbled Alfred and tried to find the right words to avoid most trouble "one of my classmates... and we are working together for the first big project" "What kind of specie is he?" He felt terrible - he was unable to move out of the entrance and all he could do was remove his bag. He wished that he at least could sit down to relief himself as if it would make it easier to discuss with his parents. "He's a polar fox" "By the power of Helva, a polar fox?" exclaimed Feline. "We have told you several times that you are not allowed to visit a stranger for long" added Allan, broke his arms position and instead pointed at Alfred. Then he let his arms rest at his waist. They both waited for a reply. "But it's the first big project of the year mom... dad" Arthur tried to place his arms so it fitted with the situation "We need to work hard and it takes time to reach the good marks" "Could you not work with Melvin the Siberian Husky instead?" asked Feline sharp. "But Arthur asked..." Before he finished his dad interrupted: "It doesn't matter if he asked you, you could have said no and work with Melvin" When he thought about it he could have done what his dad said but he did not yet understand the reason he said yes to Arthur and realized that he didn't have a viable defensive reply to say. This discussion was unpleasant for him but he made a clear mistake and all he could do was just let it go. "I'll do the works here in the house for..." How long he should do the works he did not know and didn't want to know. "Three weeks" said his parents nearly at the same time. "Two and a half" negotiated Alfred. "No deal, three weeks" His mom crossed her arms. "But..." "You asked us why we were cooking meal together" His dad pointed at him again and continued "We had a great surprise for you but..." he shook his head. "What surprise?" He felt guilty and hopeless. His mom replied with a sigh "We have visited the shaman Hector several times and last time he could finally say for sure that I'm pregnant" Alfred thought he was surprised to his limit but this piece of information was out of the scale. He stood there wordless and looked at his dad and mom alternately. After the loss of Varva, his little sister who died at the age 13 to an accident, they went into a lesser depression and did not mention about to have another child for years. That explained why they sometimes were away from home for so long. "We don't know yet if it is a girl or a boy" explained his dad "It takes time to find out and the shaman is old and tired" "But you are going to do your best to our new child and your new sibling" She had calmed down a bit "by doing the works for three weeks. Understand?" "Yes, mom" nodded Alfred quickly and tried to sound enthusiastic. "And try to avoid to do the same mistake again, son" "Yes, dad" he felt more relieved now. "And your first work is to finish the meal for yourself and for us" Feline rubbed her belly as a sign to their coming family member. "What were you cooking?" he said more sure and confident. "Your favorite; fish soup" his mom turned and began to walk to the living room. He felt the guilt turn a little. "Don't worry, son, it's nearly finish" His dad walked past him to go out and cleave fire woods as he usually did before dinner if he wasn't the one to cook "All you have to do is to stir it around 'till it starts to boil"

It was a somewhat quiet dinner than usual since the subject about Varva was a bit of a taboo but the dinner did taste well in return. Alfred got to do the works; to do the dishes and laundries, clean up and change the bedding. While he did what he had to do he tried to find out why he didn't said no to Arthur and work with Melvin instead which was the clear and obvious option to take but didn't find a reasonable reason.

After he finished doing the works he said to his parents that he will go downstairs and do the homework which he eventually did but in the progress he had the urge to call Arthur and tell him about the information he got from his parents and that they had to work together in lesser time. Their telephone was like all the other telephone the furs had; an old school phone where the handle had to be turned to start the line and turn the disc with the numbers to call up the wanted telephone number. That night Alfred dreamed about his sister who waved at him from a distance on a high hill, probably the same hill his sister tripped and fell. He tried to run and reach the hill but he ran forever. Before he knew it the hill disappeared and instead a pup appeared before his feet which he viewed and tried to pick up but before he did he woke up. He was bit confused and felt that the guilt took a round in his heart but quickly ignored it.

The next day before the class started their lessons he tried to find Arthur to inform about what happened at his home and what they had to do. He saw a part of Arthur's body around the corner and hurried but as soon he turned around the corner he saw Arthur cuddling and kissing with Tina the Siberian Charmer from the parallel class. He did not understand why he felt the warmth come to his body and why he felt as he was about to fall but he ignored the unknown feelings and tried to approach as normal as possible. "Arthur" He tried to sound firm. "Yes" Arthur stopped kissing but still held on Tina closely. "Ehm... we have to talk" "Who is he?" Tina asked confused and a bit offended of the sudden interruption. "Oh, it's Alfred, my classmate" Arthur made a gesture to introduce Alfred. "Hey Tina" It stung a bit in his heart which he didn't understand. "He's a good friend of mine and we are working together on the big project" explained Arthur further. The warmth came again to his cheeks and he enjoyed Arthur's good words. "Ehm... about the project, Arthur, we have to work together on lesser time" "Is it about your parents?" said Arthur. "Yes, it is" "We did work together in some time at my home" Arthur turned towards Alfred to talk better directly with him "I didn't think that it would be too long for your parents taste" "It was..." He was about to say "unfortunately" but held it back in time to not sound too kindhearted. "But it is fine with me to work in lesser time" He felt bad about what Arthur just said but replied normally: "Then it's settled" Alfred turned around to walk to his class as it was about to start but as soon he heard them share one kiss as goodbye he walked faster. "Hey, wait up!" He heard, looked back and slowed down. "She's not dangerous either, Alfred" added Arthur. "W-what do you mean?" He felt his heart quicken in beats and thought "This is absurd! Why am I so nervous when he talks about me or near me or...?" "Let's get the lesson over with" Burst Arthur out cheerfully.

This started their new routine, work at Arthur's place on limited time, which lasted for about two weeks, a routine which Alfred would embrace and hold dear and find more about his love for this cheerful polar fox.
