Old Photos

Story by Arobynn on SoFurry

Some old photographs and stories of Grand parents had aroused emotions within me and inspired me to write this poem.

I really reached into the bottom of my heart for this one. I hope you feel so to.

I remember as teens, that we had met

across from the field we were forbidden to stray.

Even as threats hung above our heads,

There was nothing that could keep us away.

As much of our hearts we had both devoted,

to keep each other sheltered from their rain.

There was nothing to keep from scars from not healing.

No sort of medicine to stop such a pain.

We look into each others eyes,

And all we'll find is a bottomless regret.

Of the bonds and love that was once etched in stone.

Of memories that neither of us can forget.

And even as we both grew old and grey,

Neither one of us once had the strength,

to notice there was something wrong.

With all the promises we should have kept.

I had always loved you so,

We were at each others sides,

And when you took a step back

I realised I had depression to hide.

As now I stand beside your grave,

Alone and cold with a broken mind.

I hope somewhere you will think of me,

And eternal peace somewhere you will find...
