The River

Story by Alex The Fox on SoFurry

This is based off of a roleplay I had once. The original was clean with no romance, but it gave me this idea. And for people who MIGHT have missed me. Sorry.

The evening was beautiful, the cool breeze soft on her fur as Kate walked down through the moss covered forest to her favorite river in the forest. It was soon to be a new year, the 365 days refreshed. She had been to the party at her families' home just next to the forest, the party had been going for a while, and she thought she needed some time away from all of it. She sighed happily as she walked, a champagne glass in her hand, her purple dress fluttering gently in the breeze as her cat eyes scanned the forest.

"So beautiful..." She sighed.

Almost tripping over a rock she made her way down gently, reaching the river, the crystal clear water sparkling in the twilight. She smiled as she sat down by the bank, oh how she longed to overcome her fear of swimming, how she longed to swim this beautiful river, but her cat instincts preventing her to do so. Her eyes wide as she watched the water, she loved water, but she didn't trust it, suddenly she heard a rustling sound behind her, turning around quickly, almost dropping her glass. Brushing her black hair behind her ear as she looked.

"What are you doing down here Kate?" Asked Nick, a little confused

She sighed, "Hi Nick... I just came down to watch the river."

"Oh..." Said Nick, sitting down next to her.

They sat there for a few minutes, not saying a word, Nick and Kate had never really talked much for as long as they knew each other, they had always been friends, yet never really knew each other, their families were close, so close that Kate's sister even married Nick's older brother. It was viewed as an odd pairing in their society. A cat and an otter.

"So... I thought I was the only one who knew this place." Said Nick, smiling.

She smiled at him, "I found this place a couple of years ago, I love the water and the birds and everything to do with this place,"

He sighed, laying back against the rock by the river bank, closing his eyes for a bit, then opening "I have a crazy idea...

" She looked at him, "Hmmm?"

He grinned, "Let's go for a swim..." He slid his shirt off gently.

She blushed, "Erm... well... I... can't...".

"Why not?" He asked, smiling.

She blushed more "Can't swim..."

"Well I'll teach you! Come on!" He stood up, looking down at her.

"What?... NO!" She scooted away, brushing the her brown hair from her forehead.

He smiled, holding out his hand "Trust me... Nothing bad will happen."

. "I don't know..." She bit her lip nervously.

He smiled more, his hand still outstretched, "I promise nothing bad will happen."

She hesitated, then took his hand, "Okay..."

. He led her to the water slowly, letting go of her hand to take his trousers off, in just his boxers he stood by the water. Blushing, she slowly slid her dress off, hanging it on the branch of the tree next to the river. Sighing as she took his hand, her heart racing as she set her foot into the water, his blue eyes the only reassurance she had, but it wasn't enough.

"I...can't do this!" She stepped out of the water, looking embarrassed.

He smiled, walking up to her, he wrapped his arm around her, leaning down and picking up her legs as he lifted her "That's okay... I'll do it then...".

She blushed, gulping as she clinged to him, staring into his eyes as he smiled at her "O...Okay...".

He walked into the water, watching his footing as he went further, Kate barely noticed, she stared at him, his handsome face, and his cute otter nose, she had a funny feeling, she felt secure, he was now waist high lowering himself gently, that was when she remembered the water. She clinged to him tightly, shaking a bit as he went down slowly, she felt the water on her tail, fear gripping her heart.

"Kate..."

She looked at him, his light blue eyes encouraging, she gulped again and relaxed, her arms tightly around his neck, she smiled as he lowered into the water, until only there heads were over the water, closing her eyes she purred.

"I've always wanted to feel the water... it's lovely." she said happily.

He smiled, holding onto her, "See? Nothing bad happened..."

She looked into his eyes a third, fear gripping her heart again, but this time it was not of the water,"No..." She smiled,"In fact quite the opposite..." She wrapped her tail around his, blushing.

He blushed also, breathing heavily, "K...Kate?... What are you doing?..."

She smiled leaning forward slowly, her silver eyes twinkling, as she gently kissed him. Closing his eyes, he kissed back softly, his grip loosening slightly as they kissed.

"Kate...".

"Yes Nick?". she smiled.

He blushed more,"I love you..." He leaned forward and kissed her again, harder than before.

She kissed back, joy spreading through her body. She barely remembered the water at all, all she could feel was him.

He pulled back, smiling "It's getting dark, I think we should go.".

She nodded, "Mhm..."

He stood up gently, Kate still in his arms and her tail still wrapped around his, He made his way out, being careful not to slip on the rocks as she clinged to him, cuddling close. He kissed her cheek softly and set her down, no sooner had he done than she pulled him down, kissing him hard.
