Reunion

Part 3

Brett woke up in Kurt's room alone, he could hear footsteps downstairs and decided to go let Kurt know he was awake and see what the big cat had planned for the day. But as he headed down the stairs he realized he could hear Kurt talking and he wasn't alone.

"Dude I can't wait to see the look on his face, it's gonna be priceless!" an unfamiliar but decidedly deep voice said from in the kitchen.

"Yeah... I hope so man, you don't know how much work this took!" Kurt replied. Brett was worried, had he fallen right into a setup between Kurt and his friends again? he pulled out his phone and was about to text Vi to come give him a ride home, but he decided to wait and see what would happen. The human hoped he was making the right decision. As he walked into the kitchen he saw Kurt sitting across the table from another large cat. He recognized the cat as the owner of the voice and his heart sank, it was Jackson, one of Kurt's football friend. Jackson was a lion, honestly he looked a lot like Kurt, same height, both were about 250 pounds of solid feline muscle, the differences being that Jackson was a nearly white haired lion with a luxurious mane.

"Oh hey he's up!" Jackson said, the bright look on Jackson's face confusing him.

"Oh Brett! Sorry for the surprise, I was hoping I could get back upstairs before you woke up so I could tell you Jackson was here." Kurt was calm, and still seemed to be acting nice. The smaller human was honestly still pretty scared, the two felines were so big, if they decided to do anything to him, no way he could fight them off.

"Oh shit Kurt, he's scared! you forgot to tell him didn't you... of course you did, you idiotic scatterbrain!" the big lion playfully joked with the tiger sitting across from him as he got up and walked over to Brett, offering him a hand-paw to shake, "Ok I'm sure you're confused, but no, I'm not here to mess with you!" The lions words seemed genuine and Brett calmed down a good deal as he released the cat's hand. "You see, I remembered eighth grade a lot better than most people apparently did when Kurt joined the team with us. So when he started bullying you I called him on it," this made Brett think, he had never seen Jackson be less than nice to anyone, not even so much as to laugh when the other jocks were picking on him "I was hoping to convince him to talk to you again... I AM a bit disappointed it took him THREE FUCKING YEARS." The lion looked at Kurt as he said the last three words of his sentence.

"Yeah, I know I know, I've been a Jerk." Kurt replied, his ears dropping as he looked down at the table.

"But... you get points for deciding to fix things, and, now that our guest of honor is here," The large Lion led Brett to the table as he spoke "I say we have our breakfast!"

"You guys made me breakfast?" Brett asked, remembering the food poisoning from the last time he ate something Kurt had cooked. A chicken dish that he tried to make for the humans 13th birthday.

"To be more precise I made you breakfast!" The Lion said, a huge grin spreading across his muzzle. as he patted the human on the back. "After all, I want you to live long enough to forgive this idiot!" Jackson joked.

The meal was amazing, homemade blueberry waffles and hickory smoked bacon "Kurt said you were kinda allergic to eggs, so I didn't bother to make any," Jackson admitted, "probably for the best, I usually have problems with the shells..." Jackson's cooking was honestly good enough that calling it gourmet would seem like an insult, Brett and Kurt were both amazed that such simple recipes could turn out so amazingly well

"Jackson... where did you learn to cook?" Brett asked amazed

"Well, I spend a lot of time with my grandma, she taught me everything she ever knew about cooking," Jackson looked at the small human "You really think it's good?"

"That would be an understatement!" The three finished their meals and Kurt and Jackson did the dishes and told Brett to take the time to go get a shower. When Kurt heard the water turn on he grabbed Jackson's arm to stop him from making any noise. "Just be quiet for a minute, ok?" Kurt asked, a hopeful look on his face, a few seconds later their powerful feline ears got the reward Kurt had hoped for. From the shower wafted down a melody he hadn't heard in far too long, "Eyes On Me" by Faye Wong and Nobuo Uematsu, he knew it was one of Brett's favorites ever since the two of them beat Final Fantasy VIII.

"Wow... dude... his voice is... amazing." The lion said, nearly hypnotized

"Yeah... do me a favor, don't tell him we heard him... he'd probably cry to be honest... he did last time I told him he was good..." Kurt remembered that day, Brett had been so embarrassed that his friend had heard him, he kept insisting his voice was nothing special, So Kurt finally just dropped the subject.

"Hey while we're alone, we gotta talk." The lion said, his voice taking a serious tone.

"What's up?"

"Well, it's about Monday... Listen... If you pick your 'cool' image over him.... I'm finished with you, seriously, I can't be friends with you if I know I can't trust you to pick REAL friends over fake popularity." The lion said calmly

"I know man... trust me, I don't plan on it..."

Brett heard his phone vibrate as he got out of the shower, he quickly dried himself off and looked to see Clay's name flash on the screen. He answered the phone to hear the dragon's deep ruble on the other end.

"Hey, everything ok lil' buddy?" Clay's voice held a Jolly caring tone

"Yeah Clay, I'm great, Kurt invited his friend Jackson over and he cooked an amazing breakfast for us!"

"Sounds good, which reminds me the real reason I called, I was hoping you'd go to lunch with me today, Vi's at her dad's place in the city until Monday so I'm pretty bored."

"Um... sure big guy, I'll just let Kurt know and then you can come pick me up!" Brett was a little disappointed to be leaving Kurt's place but happy to spend some time with Clay.

A couple hours later Clay showed up to pick Brett up, his car was huge, but it really would have to be for the monstrous creature to fit, Brett climbed in and the two were off

"So I packed us a lunch, most places don't serve enough to fill me up ya'know?" The big dragon laughed at his own comment "I just wanted to make sure you were thinking things through Brett, Vi would kill me if I let that damn cat hurt you again... like seriously, she'd make herself a dress, purse, matching boots AND a gloves out of my hide!"

"Yeah... is that... really your reason Clay? Just for Vi... honestly it doesn't seem like it..." Brett said quietly to the big reptile next to him, prompting Clay to pull over and look at him.

"Ok... you caught me, I'm going to tell you something I've never told anyone." Brett had never heard the big guy's voice so... tender... "My dad was human... and I had a little brother..." Brett was shocked he never would have expected that, but it did explain why the young dragon was so much smaller than most of his species "My brother though, well he was born human, and... He was never very healthy... he..." the big dragon began to tear up. "He died last year, he was thirteen, the age when dragons first develop our fire breath... it was a few days after his birthday, he had always been weak, he was in bed as usual... I heard him coughing and I went in to check on him..." The giant dragon was crying as hard as he ever had, his body shaking. "he had enough dragon in him that his lungs developed fire sacks... but... he couldn't take it... his lungs were burning up from the inside out..." Brett placed a hand on the dragon's back to comfort him, "we took him to the hospital there was nothing they could do... so I took him out for a fly, he always loved it... he died in my arms..." Brett was trying his hardest not to start crying himself. "A few weaks later my dad left... He sends me letters, but he blamed himself for insisting on having a second hatchling..."

"Clay... I'm sorry... I..." Clay put a clawed finger up to Brett's lips to quiet him.

"It's alright... I needed to tell someone... You just... You remind me of him Brett, he always loved video games, and anime, he would have loved you... I love you like you were family... I hate seeing you hurt, if anyone were to ask if you were my brother I'd say yes... Please... Say you at least understand!" Clay sounded terrified, as if Brett's answer would change his entire life.

"Clay..." Brett looked into the dragon's eyes "Of course I understand, and I'm glad to have such a great big brother looking out for me... after all, I've been alone for a while myself..." Brett's words confused the big reptile.

"What do you mean you're alone?" Clay asked

"Did you see my house? Nobody else lives there, nobody knows this, but you deserve to... my family left, Junior year, they send me enough money a weak to get by," the dragon was stunned "So yeah... A big brother would be a welcome change of pace... Especially one who can pretty much kick the ass of anyone who hurts me!" the two laughed and got back on the road, arriving at a nice open park to have their lunch.

"Sho, How wassh the danshe?" Brett asked through a mouthful of sandwich

"Haha, don't talk with your mouth full bro! But it was great, Vi and I spent every minute together, had a great time" Clay got a mischievous look in his eyes "And the private after party... let me tell ya'"

"NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! I don't wanna hear it! NOT LISTENING" Brett was utterly freaked out by the thought of Clay and Vi's sex life... honestly most people were.

"Relax I was just kidding around!" Clay said, ruffling the human's hair playfully. Brett felt his phone vibrate but stop short, meaning a text, he pulled it out and was excited to see Kurt's name on screen

Kurt: Hey, having a good time with the lizard?

Brett: Yes in fact I am, and his name's Clay

"That Kurt?" the dragon asked gruffly

"Yeah sorry, I'll make it quick!"

Kurt: Ok, sorry! Just wanted to check up on you buddy, Clay's kind of scary!

Brett: He can be, but I'm fine, I'll ttyl man!

Kurt: Kk ttyl :)

"Ok, taken care of... You have any idea why is Kurt so afraid of you?" Brett asked confused.

"Nah man, guess I just have that effect on people!" Clay acted calm, but inside he was extremely happy to have put the scare into the tiger

"Yeah, you are a dragon after all..."

The rest of the day was rather uneventful, just a bit of chatter between the two friends, they stayed at the park pretty late, Clay dropped Brett off at his house around midnight and agreed to give him a ride to school tomorrow instead of making him walk.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brett slept an extra half hour thanks to Clay, he saved time not having to walk, and got to spend his morning talking to two of his best friends, rather than hoping his deodorant didn't wear off during the walk. When they pulled up out front, everyone was pretty surprised when Kurt actually walked straight past his football buddies to talk to Brett. Bringing confusion to everyone, except a certain lion, whom it made very happy.
"Hey buddy!" Kurt said energetically, he was a morning person, and though Brett usually hated mornings, Kurt had always made them seem more bearable.
"Hey Kurt!" Brett was suddenly much more alert.
"Can I walk you to class?" Kurt asked.
"Sure, if Vi and Clay don't mind." Brett turned to ask only to see they were already heading off to first period "Guess that's a yes!" Brett laughed and the two headed of towards the school.
Kurt parted ways at the art studio to head to his own class, running into a few unhappy football players along the way.
"So what, you're friends with the freak now?" Asked Mark, the large bear responsible for the big idea on Friday
"Yeah actually, I am, you got a problem with it?" asked Kurt angrily
"Kinda, yeah, a pretty big one!" Said Calo excitedly.
"Well I suggest you get over it, he was my friend before any of you, it took making him break down to remember that!"
"Whatever! Have fun with that little bitch of a smooth-skin!" Mark retorted
"Mark... If you EVER call him that again, not only will I have you cut from the team, I'll break your fucking legs..." Kurt said, an intensity burning in his eyes.
"Whoa... calm down man... I was... joking, yeah joking, we're cool ok?" Mark said nervously
"No, we're not." Kurt said as he walked past his teammates, finally realizing... they had never even been his friends to begin with.
"I can't believe them!" Kurt yelled, as a large clawed hand reached out and pulled him into an empty classroom by the back of his neck. Bringing him face to face with Clay once again.
"Hey Kurt." Clay said, his tone rather friendly and not intimidating. But the tiger was still terrified
"Clay, Please, don't hurt me! I promise I'm not gonna hurt him again!" the tiger said as he was placed on his feet.
"Calm down man, I just saw that whole thing with your team, congratulations, I think I can trust you, I'll watch your back, those guys didn't seem too happy with you!"
"Yeah... it could cause some problems, but I know Jackson is with me, and you... and don't tell her I said this... but that Vi girl... she kinda makes me wanna piss myself!" the tiger laughed
"I won't tell her, but you can't tell her I agreed!" the two big males shared a big laugh and went off to class, awaiting lunch period, where they could all get together again.
